What do you have against Groundhog's Day? Or any Holiday for that matter?

I just wish that the Jewish Holidays were recognized. (Not officially, just that people had some semblance of what they signified and when they were.)

The only holiday recognized in the US I don't celebrate is sweetest day. It just reeks of hallmark holiday.

Where I live they are. I actually get a day off from school on Yom Kippor and Rosh ha shanna. (Sp?)

I wouldn't get rid of any holiday. Just because I personally don't like some doesn't mean I wish they would go away. The world revolves around 6.4 billion people, not me.

Cool. Last time I asked for the day of work for Yom Kippur, I think my boss thought I was making it up.

What's wrong with Mother's Day!?

If I could replace them with my own invented holidays, I'd get rid of all of them.

For me? My mother tried to kill me when I was five. But its fine if you want to celebrate it.

Glad you ask, first off, I think America has WAYYY too many national holidays.

Now to go through each holiday on my list and my explination

Valentines Day

I did a thread about this one, but mainly it boils down to the point that on this day, loves one are expected to go out and buy gift to prove that they love their boyfriend/girlfriend, and if God forbid you forget, or don't give a rats ass, you get to sleep on the couch!

President Day

Eh, have no real problem with this one, but since I did put MLK Day, I have to put this one in to balance everything out. Here at Stone Bridges Inc. we are about equality! However, it really is another pointless holiday, I mean comon.

Flag Day

Wow, a holiday for flags... What next, a holiday celebrating the day after the Super Bowl? Oops, spoke too soon.

Mother's Day
Father's Day

Ok, let's be honest. On Mothers Day, Mom gets a full breakfast, a day to the spa, and get to relax on the couch all day. On Father's Day, Dad gets a tie and some other crap. That is it. Since we can't be equal about this, let's just get rid of them both. Replace them with Parent's Day!

MLK Day

First off, I agree that Martin Luther King Jr. was a great man, and he was a great leader in the time of Civil Rights. However, this holiday falls flat on it's face. Mainly because kids, they don't care about MLK. All they care about is that they get a day off to play video games. How is that honorig MLK? Make the punks stay in school and teach them MLK! Otherwise, in the trash it goes.

Groundhog Day

Unless we can hunt the damn groundhogs, get rid of this one.

New Years

The only fun thing about this holiday is that I can get wasted and no one will care. Other than that, trash it.

we don't need to subtract any holidays just add about 340 more so that we have 365 holidays a year!!!!

I once lived in a place like that as well. South Florida. Hanukah though, that’s a bit hard to plan a school break around.

I don’t have a use for Valentine’s Day this year, but I’m not going to be some bitter asshole and resent it.

The one holiday I hate is Martin Luther King Junior Day, and not because I’m some white supremacist, but because I think naming that movement after one person, even its leader is a bit… inaccurate, I suppose.
I’d prefer if it was called Civil Rights Day, and if maybe it could be a day where ALL races celebrated their rights, ALL their rights. Maybe then people might take a bit more notice of certain violations of said rights, such as the PATRIOT Act.

You can hunt them. They're considered a non-game animal in some states, and there's a season in others. If they're illegal to hunt where you live, move. A Mini-14 does nicely against your average ground hog.

Yea, but I'm talking like a sanctioned hunt!

I'll call our local hunting club, see if I can organize one for next year.

Valentines Day
President Day
Flag Day
Mother's Day
Father's Day
MLK Day
Groundhog Day
New Years

That's my list.

Valentine's Day - nah, keep it. It may be the one day that couples have a legitimate excuse to be nice to eachother.

President Day, flag day - definitely pitch those. Considering the presidents we're getting nowadays, I wouldn't want anyone to think the holiday was in any way honoring them.

Mother's and Father's Day - keep those for the same reason as Valentine's day.

MLK - pitch it. It was one of those holidays that was created out of pressure of political correctness. You don't get the day off for it and it doesn't make you any more money.

Groundhog Day: keep it. It's just silly.

New Year's Day - definitely keep it! People need the day to recover from New Year's eve hangovers.

Non Official days don't bother me, although some are just to make money for Hallmark and FTD, and others are just plain silly.

I do object to those that only the banks and post offices get off and nobody else even thinks about: President's Day, Flag Day, Patriot Day, Columbus Day.

I also think MLK Day is very devisive. Why should one ethnic group have a day just for them? Shortly if not already Hispanics will be the largest minority, Where is their Day?

If they want to keep it, it should be renamed "Equal Rights Day" or "All Ethnic Day" or "Citizen's Freedom Day" or "Patriotic Protest Day" or something else that would apply to everyone and that could be used to teach all of the kids about their obligation to look for the wrongs in government and work to change those wrongs. It could be a class project for every school each year to pick out something in their city, state or country that needs to change and lobby their government for that change.
