O Great Total War...

Yes indeed, folks. The next chapter of the Total War series has been announced!
http://www.totalwar.com/

When I saw that article in my PC Gamer, well...it was like the day I saw the first ad for RTW, something like a very pleasant heart attack ;)
Even if this turns out to be the first MTW with a shiney graphics engine, I dont care. MTW without headache-causing graphics is a dream come true for me. That and the screenshots seem to make it clear that this is something more than the original.
Also, it appears that we will be able to go into the early 1500's this time around, which may be more interesting, gunpowder units might actually be WORTH USING this time around ;)

Hopefully they'll do a STW2, now that they're doing MTW2....

Aw, come one. "Weapons cause fear" doesn't guarantee they cause a LOT of fear...or enemy losses...

But they make a loud "BANG!". And that's all that counts. I never played the tactical portion of MTW with gun powder units. I thought that gunpowder units in STW were effective enough, though. I woulda thought that the MTW gp units would be about as effective.

What pisses me off is I can't play it because my computer has been fucked up ever since I upgraded it to a better video card... and MTW was the greatest game EVER.

i'm excited. mtw was amazing, too bad my computer has built some sort of virus that doesn't allow me to play it...

On the one hand, I'm a tad annoyed that they're not moving into a new area- I've tramped over Europe with blood-stained boots enough times that I'm interested in another part of the world.

On the other hand, I am enthralled with the idea of making MTW with the innovations of RTW. This should be an interesting game to watch.

Your new card having a conflict with an integrated graphics accelerator?

When another faction offers one of their princesses to you in marriage, I think she should have the same list of personality traits that units have...

Instead of "great builder", "eager to retreat", or "gluttonous", the potential brides could have advantages/flaws like "freak in the sack", "willing to swing", or "frequent headaches"....

I'm honestly at a loss of words.
But, all I can really say is:

There goes my life.
And I'm so happy!

To be fair though, given the time MTW was loosely set, gunpowder weapons were hardly great.

I wonder if there will be mixed units in this one though.

But this is all moot, my computer really struggled with the first MTW, so I think it is safe to assume a sequel is definately out of the window.

oooooooohhhh.... awesome!
RTW was such a disappointment for me though... hope they improve this one. MTW1 was great though

MTW2 looks veeery cool. I even here they're implementing a system which means that your units, individually, will look different, and not the "clone army" they said they weren't too impressed with. I admit that I'd rather have China: Total War, but the medieval period can be very interesting.

I just hope that instead of focusing on the fancy-pants graphics, they'll instead change the AI of the game so that it can actually FIGHT, instead of the ridiculously easy battles of Rome. (There's only so many times I can fight a battle on Very hard/Very Hard, against an enemy that outnumbers and out-techs me, and only suffer something between 1/10 and 1/18ths casualties whilst inflicting virtually 100%.)

No, I don't know what the problem is but I'm actively trying to pursue it now. I even posted my problem on like 5 hardware forums. So hopefully I can set things straight soon.

I want his hat. 1000 Ducats to the person who brings me his hat!
Actually, speaking of Ducats, one of the new factions for MTW2 are the Venetians, which I think could be quite cool. A medieval naval mediterranean power with something against the Ottomans :D

We can kill the pope AGAIN!

Sure, but in MTW, he just spouted forth again from some corner of the world (usually Naples) with an enormus army of levees with the sole intent to crush you and that 'Pope' you put in the Vatican. Very annoying indeed.

DGNT already heard my reaction but it was pretty much a "holyshitholyshitholyshit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" kinda moment.

I hope we can play as the Swiss in this one and thet there are more eastern factions(even if unplayable). Hrmmm...Venice...sounds interesting could be fun!

Oh and the Pope thing really pissed me off, i used to be germany and ally with him then kill everyone and then take him out. It was the easiest way, only problem is them damn germans can barely keep together, so many damn rebellions....

I dunno about you, but the Pope was the hardest battle i ever fought. He took out three units of Gothic Infantry on his lonesome.

What? The pope is easy to kill!

Btw, to people who had problems with the pope: did you try destroying everything in Rome and the Papal States and then abandoning completely to the rebels? The less troops in the area, the less papal rebels that appear so it's completely easy. I used to kill the pope whenever the current didn't agree with my policies so I can replace him. Also, a new feature in MTWII is you can BECOME the pope, kinda, by nominating your cardinals to Rome and etc.

Since I usually played Poland or Egypt, I never got much trouble from the his Holiness. As Poland, I was the USSR sized protector of the East. As Egypt, I usually did a pre-emptive stike against the Vatican via sea to get a hold on prime trading ground. Ghaza Infantry and Viking mercs to boot! Rawr!

For some reason, I always played Catholic factions (except france of course). I never liked the Muslim factions, though in game they were tough bastards. I particularly remember the bloody fights in Asia Minor against the Egyptians in my Spain campaign and fighting the Almohads in Spain as well.

I only played as the Danes, early on. Couldn't do much with out the support base... especially given my play style.
