What the hell is this cult The Illuminati? I've looked it up and a;llI get are these conspricy sites that explain nothing.

The Illuminati were a group of 16th Century heretics who were wiped out by the Spanish Inquisition.

That's the whole point of secret societies and conspiracy theories. You won't find much definite information on any of them, and the bits and pieces you do find contradict each other.
Try and see if you can find a forum on freemasonry, people there might be able to provide detailed albeit contradictory explanations. ;)

They are a secret cult that a band called Gamma Ray made a really amazing concept album (No World Order) with them as a theme.
Also, just use google for lots of paranoid conspiracy theories.
There was a group a few centuries ago - bavarian illuminati, but usually people mean a supposed group of people who currently rule the world in secret. Except that everyone's heard of them.
