The Silicon Valley is on the verge of a second boom being led by Google and Yahoo.

I wouldn't start partying yet. A month or two ago, we rated 8th in the Nation as a technology center.

People are still concerned about the future here.

Venture capitol is slow and it requires off shoring these days......

You did not read the article. Nothing worse than some one making a statement without knowing what the hell they are talking about.

How about electrodes to the genitals?

You are right but things are getting better. This was about the only good news I could find.

I could say it is because I am getting my first formal training class in 4 years so that is a sign.

For us, it's a transformation from the old garage days. HP is more or less a joke, Digital is dead, Apple is a music company ;) , IBM is killing it's disk drive plant, Lockheed has all but vacated, so time will tell.

I don't think we will see the glory days of the garage era again.....

I read the article--in my subscriber's copy at home. I'm not convinced. I have no doubt that the tech industry has rebounded some and that it will continue to grow, but it still feels a bit early to be calling it a boom. The writer of the article seemed, to me anyway, to be reaching a bit, grasping for data to make his case.

It is recovering, and unemployment is again working its way downward as payrolls begin to grow again. However, this time the growth is far more steady and sustainable than it was during the bubble, which is by any means an excellent thing. The offshoring bogeyman isn't coming to pass, and I think the US It industry will have a solid 2006 and 2007. Also interesting is the fact that wages are rising again, a good sign by any means.

IT looks like it's been pretty healthy in the past few months; IIRC, Dice.com has seen its number of postings rise from around 72,000 at the beginning of the month to 84,000 now. I think we'll see a healthy period of sustainable growth over the next few years as a combination of new technology, greater foreign demand, and the beginning of the next major investment cycle to upgrade older technology.

Honestly, I'd rather have prolonged, sustainable growth than another bubble.

Also, to Stone Bridges: Yahoo! and Google are not bubbles; they have real profits and sustainable business models. The same goes with all of the survivors of the dot-com bust.
