Shopping. You do it?

I was just grazing the virtual pastures of NS, and thinking about real life, when this thought occured to me:

Do people [lets just say here, on NS] just stumple upon faith and personal viewpoints?

Or is it a conscious effort, and people go out and try different things, essentially shopping for religion? Like, this Sunday I'll try the Catholics, next week, the Muslims, Friday night after that its the Jews, and then I'll decide which faith [if any] I want to follow if those feel good. Or on Monday, I think I'll cehck out Facsim. If that doesn't quite work out, I'll try being an American Republican for awhile, but since I like the label and reputation of Liberalism, I'll call myself that.

Random thought. What's your opinion and/or expierence on "shopping"?

Shopping = spending money.

Religion = buildng a relationship

I *suppose* you could consider shopping for a relationship, but that's really a different thing in my book.

I didn't look at any relationships before I tried one on.

I just realised that there were relationships. That's all it took.

When I say "shopping" I'm just going to look at things and try stuff out. Purchasing things is a very long process for me.
Which is why I used the term.

So, you don't go "shopping" in this sense.

I don't really either, but I've actually haven't been a whole lot of other things than what who I am. Its just a different way of looking at things.

Ahhh.... Window shopping.

That's fine, as long as you realise that what you're buying is only an image.

That's deep.

But I really don't care about my image. I like bargans.

Nah, I prefer to have a relationship with God and Jesus, instead of shopping.

After "shopping" for religions and ideologies for many years, I finally realized that none of them fit me, so I built my own. :)

So how is the Church of Eutrusca?

I only shop for things I want or need (often the latter becomes the former), so you can understand why religion and ideology are never charged to my karmic VISA.

Heh! Part of my "build your own" belief system is that there is no need for physical structures, congregations, or meetings. :D

Cool, but I like the community that a church can formed. I love my Saturday night Mass, because after Mass there's supper and I meet alot of intresting people when I go to the supper.

The Pope of the Mariehamn Church thinks the same.
Due to a lack of supper.

Which is great for you, but not my cup of tea. :)

that's a good point. The communities and friendships formed through religion and doctrine are some of the strongest and most enduring I've experienced. maybe it sounds hollow, but I value mine for the social dimension rather than the 'spiritual' one.

I've shopped for ideologys for quite some time. Mostly by reading philosophers' view of the world. I think thats better than to be born in some predetermined value system, and I was indeed quite forced into beeing a catholic like my entire family is, but thats nothing a good dose of Nieztche can't undo... Nothing like some good nihilism to break the values you once thought to be holy.

ps: I still belive in god though, not like you need to embrace other people thoughts as your own.

Many people don't "shop" they are taught by their parents, friends, ect.

Others think about it and compile what others have thought into what they want to think. Or what they feel is the truth.

Others don't accept what other people think so they accept nothing. Or only what they can be shown.

For those that stated the "relationship" qualitites of religion they hit the nail on the head. Whether believing in God or not He is an extension of our social needs. Either as our Benefactor, Creator, and Father (for believers) or as a social crutch of a relationship that will never abandon you.(for the more cynical of us) This holds true even in the great void of death, which is nice.

Pick one of the four. I bet you belong to one.

I belive that eventually, at some point in their lives, everyone shops.

You make "a relationship that will never abandon you" as "a crutch" sound like a bad thing.

I'm sick of this English pronoun crap. Are you talking to me, y'all, them, or an unspecified general group of people?! Do you even understand me?!
Mariehamn is going shopping for a new language!

Baically you have to feed and clothe yourself so I shop for what I need I do really think that hard about it and not bothered by fashion. If I need or what electrical goods I pick one of good quality
