I'm going to go with the Muira, I'm pretty sure you're not going to list it. There's just something to be said for the first big dog on the porch.

Best get it right this time, dammit...

Be serious. There's nothing funny about a car that costs as much as a mansion in Bel Air or Beverly Hills.

If you don't think spending that much on a car is hilarious, then I question your sense of humor. :p

The F1 really is the mother of all cars, but personally, I think I'd prefer the violent image of the F40.
Just being brave enough to get into one should give you more respect than those pansy war veterans get.

Well, I'm still going with the Bugatti Veyron.

That's a car we'll never see the like of again. It was built just to see if it was possible. They sell for something like 1 million pounds. A lot of money, but considering it costs 5 million to build, damn good value really. Only drawback is that the 1001 BHP motor's limited to a top speed of 'only' 450 km/hr.
http://users.wfu.edu/jankke2/csc101/lab4/bugatti.jpeg

Here's what Jeremy Clarkson had to say on the car:
It all started when Ferdinand Piëch, the swivel-eyed former boss of Volkswagen, bought Bugatti and had someone design a concept car. “This,” he said, “is what the next Bugatti will look like.” And then, without consulting anyone, he went on. “And it vill have an engine that develops 1000 horsepower and it vill be capable of 400kph.”

His engineers were horrified. But they set to work anyway, mating two Audi V8s to create an 8 litre W16. Which was then garnished with four turbochargers. Needless to say, the end result produced about as much power as the earth’s core, which is fine. But somehow the giant had to be cooled, which is why the Veyron has no engine cover and why it has 10 — count them — 10 radiators. Then things got tricky because the power had to be harnessed.

...that means you can top 400kph.

That’s 370ft a second.

You might want to ponder that for a moment. Covering the length of a football pitch, in a second, in a car. And then you might want to think about the braking system. A VW Polo will generate 0.6g if you stamp on the middle pedal hard. You get that from the air brake alone on a Veyron. Factor in the carbon ceramic discs and you will pull up from 250mph in just 10sec. Sounds good, but in those 10sec you’ll have covered a third of a mile.

That’s five football pitches to stop.

I didn’t care. On a recent drive across Europe I desperately wanted to reach the top speed but I ran out of road when the needle hit 240mph. Where, astonishingly, it felt planted. Totally and utterly rock steady. It felt sublime.

Not quiet, though. The engine sounds like Victorian plumbing — it looks like Victorian plumbing as well, to be honest — and the roar from the tyres was biblical. But it still felt brilliant. Utterly, stunningly, mind blowingly, jaw droppingly brilliant.

...

From behind the wheel of a Veyron, France is the size of a small coconut. I cannot tell you how fast I crossed it the other day. Because you simply wouldn’t believe me. I also cannot tell you how good this car is. I just don’t have the vocabulary. I just end up stammering and dribbling and talking wide-eyed nonsense. And everyone thinks I’m on drugs.

This car cannot be judged in the same way that we judge other cars. It meets drive-by noise and emission regulations and it can be driven by someone whose only qualification is an ability to reverse round corners and do an emergency stop. So technically it is a car. And yet it just isn’t.

Other cars are small guesthouses on the front at Brighton and the Bugatti is the Burj Al Arab. It makes even the Enzo and the Porsche Carrera GT feel slow and pointless. It is a triumph for lunacy over common sense, a triumph for man over nature and a triumph for Volkswagen over absolutely every other car maker in the world.

I really like the Espirit Turbo, I really do. But I don't think it ranks so much as a super car. The closest Lotus has was the homoligation of the Elise GT1. Maybe that 3somethinorother track day car that they put out.

Out of all the ones you've got listed I'd go for the Lotus. That's one seriously cool looking car and the only one there that I've ever got a chance of having enough money to buy.

They always say that when these things come out (even when the EB110 came out!) and then five or ten years go by and someone outstrips that car making it look like a relic. They said it when the F1 was made, and now there is this car.

I'd like to see the bar set higher for the super car rather than just strapping a high strung motor to some wheels for a high speed you'll never find a straight away long enough to see. (I remember on one of the many eves of release this long delayed car had there was a mention that the 1001 hp and special tires that went with that was only available by having a technician come out and unleash it). Edge of the seat driving, that involves dynamics of driving that is attached to more than just the gas pedal.

Always been partial to the XJ220. Don't know why, just has classic high speed lines, and a 6 cylinder with 2 turbo super charger things on it. Love to get one some day, but going over driveway with an angle greater than 4 degrees would probably put the thing in the body shop.

Not entirely sure why, but my favourite car, for some time, has been the dodge viper. Of the modern supercars, easily the Pagani Zonda. Of that list, the Lotus'.

you can pick on up for under $15,000. I actually like those the most. But that's just me. (My brother disagrees, we both secretly think the other is nuts.)

I have a soft spot for the XJ220. I think it was the test drive I read where Jaguar's Group C driver tested it and liked the performance and still felt like we was in a nicely appointed glove. Of course, we'd never get out of that car what he did, but meh...

hey, CToaN, don't you have a VW bus? I'd walk through fire to get one of them. Should be an honourary mention in this thread :D

I do indeed have a '67 VW Westfalia Bus, and you don't have to walk through fire to get one, but you do have to go through the trial of ownership. Unless it's in great shape or you actually follow the advice in 'the Guide' (shame on me) you tend not to drive them further than you're willing to have them towed back. Mostly because it's pretty old and I haven't been able to keep ahead of it. There are plenty of bus owners around here who would take thier bus' to the end of the earth without pause. And for the most part I can get it home with a little umph (I've actually used my shoelace, and a spare key)

Should things actually go the way they're looking I'm going to be able to keep my promise to her and restore the old girl. And then I'm going to buy me a tiny european sports car. Maybe another 914, or a Sprite, or a Midget, or a TR-3, or a MG-TD (if things are going really well), or...I have a long wish list...Oh! or a Manx Dune Buggy, that'd be sooooo cool.

Cool, but doesn't quite have that head-turning appeal of the new models:

One seriously cool looking car, and at a fraction of the cost of any other sports car. Better driving too, by all accounts.

You people are all silly.

It's the F40. They look sorta old and ugly from the outside, but see one and you know. You don't drive that thing up to the red carpet.

Pagani Zonda.
Was surprised I had to wait until page 2 for that!!

Out of those choices, the Macca rules! But, given a choice of any...

Either the Zonda or Koenigsegg.

Two things, the Fords are not exodic, and the CCR is probably the best, its faster than the Maclaren F1, and it is a production car. though i would choose a porche.
