Ok, here's the particulars of how to contribute to the Zooke Breast Cancer Research Memorial Fund:

1. Visit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's Website at http://www.bcrfcure.org/sup_howyoucan.html ( which is the "How to donate page." )

2. Decide what method you want to use to donate. As far as I know at this point, they accept personal checks and international money orders, in addition to all the usual methods of donating: credit cards ( not sure about debit cards ), USPS money orders, etc.

3. To make sure that they know your contribution is in Sandy's ( Zooke's ) memory, write "In memory of Zooke" on your check or money order, or just tell them if you make your donation by phone.

NOTE: "When you make a donation online, after filling out your information on the first screen, you will have the opportunity to make a donation in memory or in honor of a loved one, and you will be able to request that we send an acknowledgment of this gift to whomever you designate." [ From their Website ]

Do NOT request that an acknowledgement of your gift be sent to anyone on NS, including me! The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has graciously agreed to compile a total and let us know what it is.

If you have questions/problems you can either let me know or call them direct, toll-free at 1-866-FIND-A-CURE (346-3228). For those who live outside the US, just let me know and I'll ask them.

Please keep in mind that all contributions are welcome, that this is a very worthy and important cause, and that any contributions we make will be in loving memory of a very wonderful woman. Our little contribution could be enough to put some researcher on the right track to beat this terrible disease.

Me too. Poor lil thing. She was just a tiny thing, you know. Yet so full of life and love and compassion. She was quickly becoming one of my best friends. We use to talk on video 'cause she wanted to "see what your face looks like when you talk." Fiesty too. I love the story about her taking away a bat from a mother who was hitting her child with it, then using it on the mother. Gotta love someone like that.

I'm sorry Eutrusca. Its hard for me.

Like you, she was becoming my best friend and coming on the heels of my favorite aunt dying, it is really hitting me hard.

I wish you had known her too. She was one of the good ones, one of the best. She was one of those people who have been through hell and 1/2 of Georgia, only to come out stronger and more compassionate. God, I miss her so! :(

:fluffle:

I suppose part of my own reaction was due to her death coming right on the heels of my own brush with cancer. I understand.

I haven't got a credit card or means of donating online and I don't trust the Royal Mail with money (I don't have a checkbook) but I'll certainly make a donation to a suitable charity when I go into town next.

RIP Zooke

They will never find a cure for any cancer. It would be bad for business.

And in a capitalist world green paper matters more than a human being.

Save your money.

Eut, Maybe it would be a good idea to edit your first post in the "memorial for Zooke chosen" sticky to contain the donation onformation. It is possible that some people don't yet know how to go about it.

He did, but we've been trying to get the Mods to change the thread title & merge these so it's more readily apparant to the "I only read the top page & new Sticky" Generalites.

You could add your 2p over in Moderation to help convince them... ;)
