It's the whole thing. Guilt by association might bother you. But, personally, I just don't give a rat's ass.

And the whole thing ( should the US apologise ) is, to me, about guilt by association.

Agreed 100%

That is scary. I wonder when they will say they should stop teaching the Holocaust because Germans might find it offensive. :p

Welcome to the wonderful world of Political Correctness.

No one said they shouldn't apologise. Its quite shocking that they haven't.

No its not shocking at all when you actually sit and look at what was going to happen.

What would you rather have? Nukes being used or chemical weapons being used?

We should have first dropped it on berlin, to demonstrate its mighty power to the japanese.

If that failed, another demonstration on Moscow.

Only then should we have proceeded to Hiroshima.

And since Russia was an Ally, I guess Moscow could be written off as an American "friendly fire" accident? "If we can do this to our friends, imagine what we'll do to our enemies" argument, I suppose?

Hiroshima demonstrated the unprescidented firepower of nuclear weapons and convinced the Japanese if they may have been hesitant. It also forced the renunciation of the godhood of the Emperor - something a standard surrender would not have achieved.

Nagasaki, however, was an unwarranted military experiment.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Political Correctness.
The time of that world is coming to its end; people have realised how impractical it is I think.

Thank God too because as an Historian, it really pisses me off.

I studied History up to A level, and fell in love with it. I hate the way that people try and suppress it to keep certain groups happy; sort of like making the world seem as some kind of lovely fairytale. Its an insult to the very notion of History.

Agreed 100%.

I just loved annoying History teachers with the non-PC history. They squirm.

I was lucky enough to have a very non-PC one. She wasn't biased in anyway, but neither was she blinded to the realities of the world. I learnt a lot more from here than from any other teacher. Sadly, she is the exception amongst current historians. This one Russian guy and I usually had the most radical opinions in the class; she loved getting into debates with us.
