What is, in your opinion, the best film trilogy ever made?

Poll coming soon, so hold your horses :p

The original Star Wars trilogy. Fond childhood memories from that one.

I'm going to break the rules, and say the House of Cards trilogy, even though it was technically a triology of miniserieses (miniserii?).

Lord of The Rings is a flawless movie trilogy.

Difficult question, but I think I have to agree that LOTR is the best.

But I can say, definitely not
- Blade (Only the original is good, Blade Trinity sucks)
- Die hard (Number two is not good enough)
- Matrix (Only the original is good)
- Terminator (Number three sucks)
- Star Wars episode one, two and three - They all suck to a varying degree.

:) Edit: I'm "sometimes deadly" now, am I? ;)

Have you seen the third one? It would have been the best, though. It would have been...

That was on PBS's Master Peice Theater correct? (how many House of Cards are out there?)

Though I voted "Star Wars," I have to say that was one damn good mini series.

EDIT:
I think this should've been a "multiple choice" poll.

Lord of the Rings by far.

Back to the Future was fun, but that's all.
Blade was good, everything past that was just silly.
Die Hard were all good, but seriously, Zeus?
The God Father. If it were up to me there would only be one.
Indiana Jones would be better if 2 was more like something other than Temple of Doom.
Matrix had some much potential, but then Revolutions came out.
Terminator had it's moments. The original was creative and unique. T2 was just awesome. T3 was completely needless and was merely done for money.
Star Wars 4-6 are a close runner up. I might have made SW number one if episode 4 was originally done as episode 4. 1-3 aren't even close for a number of reasons, namely due to the existance of Jar-Jar, and the rather unconvincing end to Episode 3.

Best? Hmm, it's a case of picking the least flawed, if you're taking them as a trilogy.
Never seen the Godfather trilogy, so I can't say that...
Not the Matrix - 2 and 3 sucked ass...
Okay, so either Indiana Jones, Die Hard, Star Wars (original trilogy, obviously), or Lord of the Rings
Erm...

I'm gonna say Star Wars. Taken as a Trilogy, it is actually very good, with the 3 different styles of film meshing well.

Opps, it should be Original Trilogy or Prequal Trilogy for Star Wars

Blade should not be up there lol. "Guchy Goo"

I'll just go with LoTR because the battles were awesome as hell. Except that whole ghost army..that was just retarded. In fact the last 40 minutes of that series sucked.

*Changes vote to Indiana Jones*

The Scream trilogy, although the last one wasn't as good as it should've been.

The original Star Wars trilogy easily. The prequel trilogy had it's moments, but it simply didn't compare to the original trilogy.

I rather say the entire Star Wars saga was flawless. Besides, I can't choose between wich trilogy was better.
LOTR was second choice though.

Nope, but if it was it still wouldn't be good, Highlader II just ruined it all and the rest was just a downward spiral...

I'm referring to the one with Ian Richardson (I'd have his man babies) as FU that was done with the BBC (I think).

Yeah, thats the one. Master Peice Theater kinda works with BBC and occasionally airs the bigger hits (HoC was one of them) and does re-runs.
I beleive the "Finnal Cut" of House of Cards was the only one I could fully watch.

The Final Cut (3rd one) was the weakest in the series (Urquhart didn't live up the to ruthlessness or cunning he had in the first two), but it was still great.

I have to agree with you here. Almost all trilogies have one film that seriously blows. I would have gone with Alien, but Alien 3 sucked ass. So, here is my list: (requirement that none of the films could totally blow)

1. The Godfather
2. Lord of the Rings
3. Star Wars (the original)
4. Terminator *edit
5. Die Hard

Now that you mention it, that film did kinda suck. Not in an "Alien 3" way, or a "Terminator 3" way, but in a "It sucked so bad, I actually repressed all memory of seeing it" way.

Therefore, your claim to the Indiana Jones being a great trilogy is still legit, seeing as the Temple of Doom didn't ruin it for you.

I disagree with you. The first one was an attempt at a real horror movie, while the second two were spoof films. Although they were great for their intended audience, ED1 sucked sufficiently to disqualify it from serious contention. Even taken as a "cheezy horror B-movie", it is no more than...meh.

Lord of The Rings, definitely. There were just so many things that were done right that hadn't been previously attempted that made it work:

1) Continuity
Yeah, Star Wars IV-VI was planned as a trilogy from the git-go, but it wasn't filmed within the tight timeframe that LOTR was. Star Wars looks like three movies. LOTR looks like a 12 hour movie that's broken into three parts.

2) Rock solid story
There was already a story in place and everything had a place where it was supposed to be. Can't really do much better than Tokien for a story.

3) Balance
There were three main elements that were competing in the movie: story, characters, special effects. Instead of them vying for attention, they complemented each other to create an experience.

4)Cojones
With no guarantee of success for movies, Jackson taking on the project was probably the gutsiest move in movie history. a) Taking on a story with a rabid cult following, seeking to do justice to it, and succeeding b)planning on all three to be produced back to back and getting the funding for it. c)Shelob. I think anyone else that would have put a giant spider in a movie would have only made it cheezy.

Terminator!

The first one was really good.
The second one was fucking awesome.
The third one...meh. An ok film, but it in no way lived up to the hype. Also, no Sara Connor. That's like Aliens without Ripley.

I guess the trilogy as a whole can replace Indiana Jones on my top five list.

The original Star Wars trilogy.

The best becuase they didnt just invent a genre of films, but actually, in some cases, even invented the technology they were using,
Few films are ever this innovative, and epic, even though many have tried, none have the excitment of Lucas' story.

LOTR was good, and nothing can change the fact that they were absolutely brilliant work, BUT...it wasnt groundbreaking, nor, will it have a profound effect on every movie made in Hollywoood after it.

Industrial Light and Magic.

Skywalker Sound Ranch.

Practically every movie in Hollywood hires one of these to some task, or another, and if you want groundbreaking CGI, you go to Lucas.

Why?

Because Star Wars had, is having, and will likely continue to have, a strong impact on our culture for years to come.

I went for The Godfather. I would have gone for The Lord of the Rings were it not for the fact that I don't consider it to be a trilogy, just one long 11-hour film split up in three.

Original Star Wars for me.

After that, maybe LotR. It might have been first had it not been for Aragorn's rather lame romance that was basically just wrong.

I love the whole Indiana Jones trilogy as well, even Temple of Doom.

The first two Terminator movies were great. I saw the third one yesterday, though, and it blew chunks.

Lord of the Rings, love it...

... Back to the future was indeed fun... I think that would be my second choice... loved the Matrix, find the sequels (particularly the third one... well second sequel, third movie) are more watchable if you turn the sound down - pretty special effects, absense of plot or characterisation... Star Wars? well I like bits of the prequels, but when it comes to the originals I honestly don't understand what the fuss is about, I've seen them once, and didn't want to watch them again...

Kieslowski's "Three Colours" Trilogy, no question.

"Blue" - Best Cinematography EVER, heartbreaking story, life-affirming and awesome

"White" - Harsh, hilarious and fantastic, the lesser of the bunch is still better than 95% of all other movies out there

"Red" - JESUS GOD! Kieslowski's swan song. Absolutely profound and moving. From the very beginning to the amazing and hard-fought/controversial finale. All the pieces of the trilogy come together perfectly.

Although Leone's "Man With No Name" runs a close second purely due to coolness.

The Godfather I & II were outstanding. III was poor, dissapointing.
Die Hard 2 was lousy.
Terminator 3 was painful to watch. Almost as bad as the Jaws sequels.

I think "The Man With No Name" series was the best- my favorite.
