well, Willamena was right, the puppies are adorable, and since they are officially ready for going to new homes, I have one. He is in my living room right now, playing with my husband and kids.

I need to name him, my kids named my other dog, and my husband named his fish, so I get to name this puppy.

come on, cool, repeatable by my children names only.

My husband's pick is Kal-el
my kids picks are goober, and princess.

The dog is going to be big, and he is a boy so I don't like any of those names (I tried for Krypto, but the dog doesn't look right for it, and he doesn't like it) right now he answers to "dumbass" but I am trying to find something better (I didn't name him that my neighbors did.)

What does he look like? what colour, etc.???

I remeber having to name my kitten a few months back (not that she listens to her name cause she's deaf, but still) my sister really wanted to call her Ming, but we decided on Fay. My sister also had a bunch of hamsters, with names ranging from Fifi to Tequila... she even wanted to name one Donut but i wouldn't allow that...

What do you mean by "Big"? (In my experience Big dogs range from dogs that I can sit in my lap to 140+ lb beasts, depending on the urbanization/cowardice of the person announcing size).
Whatever, Siegfried, Conan, Einar, Cerebrus, Loki, or Aegir all seem to fit off the top of my head.

well, I suppose he will be small if you compare him to something like a mastiff, but yeah, about 90-120 pounds I am guessing, probably pretty tall also (his legs are pretty long) right now he is 6 weeks old and weighs about 8 pounds, he is all muscle, only a little puppy fat.

I am not going to name him something like "princess" or "fufu" no matter how much my girls want me to, I was thinking about dying him blue and naming him Beast though. :p

if its between rocky and beast, go with rocky. but if ur still open to suggestions, alcoholic drinks tend to make great pet names. since hes got a triangle on his head, name him martini, cause a triangle is kinda the shape of a martini glass.

Hey, that's my dog's name! Though my brother named him, and truth to tell I find it a tad cliched. Still Simba seems to like it. He's a Ridgeback/Bull Mastif x. I'm back in ZN right now so getting to spend lots of quality time with him.

Holy frikkin cute....

I gotta say, Im a grown man, and can be damn stoic when I need to be, but in the presence of a puppy...I turn to a baby-talking gibbering idiot.
I cant help it, and the more it looks like a golden retriver...the worse it is.

Thats a cute puppy.

He looks like a Rusty to me.
Or maybe Bullwinkle, since hes gonna be a moose.

Me?

Ive got a 13 year old golden retreiver-mix named Jose.
Hes a spolied old dog, with a big heart, and a sense of humor.

You know what I dont get?

The bad rap that Pit Bulls get.

A very good friend of mine (Who has a nation as well), used to live with someone who had a pit bull female named Banshee.

Banshee was psycho for love.

Once you let her into the room, she would immediately jump on the bed, almost frantic with excitment, so happy to with around people, she couldnt be still.
She'd normally knock ashtrays over, and all sorts of mayhem, and when you yelled at her for it, she would assume the most hang-dog exspression, that it was supremely comical, "aw, jeez...Im sorry...i just wanted to say hi.."
So, you'd get all warm and fuzzy, and tell her that it was ok, and she could come back...

Repeat happy cycle....

Almost every pit bull I meet is like that.

The dog's behavior really does depend on the how the owner treat/cares for the dog. I think often, pit bulls and pit bull mixes are often obtained by ignorant macho morons that want a dog that emulates their attitude. The results are many well known dog disasters- out of control aggressive dogs.
We always had German Shepherds and Alaskan Malamutes growing up- all were exceptionally well behaved. They had plenty of care and attention, were well fed and excercised-they were treated with respect as part of the family. They were alert and protective, not dangerous & unpredictable.

I'm quite certain I could raise a pit bull to be gentle and loving in a family environment. I just dont particularly care for that breed.

Absolutely.

While some dog breeds have differerent quirks, its all in how you raise them.
My dog is a big teddy bear, becuase I pretty much raised him that way.
With your average breeds, like Labs, Retrievers, etc..its not hard, they naturally tend towards being family dogs.

I also have a soft spot for German Shepards.
Shepards can be great with kids, I remember one such Shep who took it upon himself, to be my nanny when I was very young.
That pooch was smart as a whip.
He would guage my reaction to strangers, and judge accordingly, who could, or could not approach me, whenever I would go over to his home.
If my mother, or a family/friend would come near me, the dog wouldnt bat an eye.
However, if I was nervous around someone, the dog knew instantly, and would often growl if a person seemed creepy...and he wasnt even my dog.
King, im sure, wasnt much more than 120 lbs at the time, but when I was 4, King seemed like the biggest dog in the world.

The bad rap that Pit Bulls get.
I don't like Pit Bulls because they are ugly as Hell. Beyond that, Pit Bulls are good at fighting (whether they actually fight or not doesn't matter), which means that, when they go mean, they tend to be successful.
Chihuahuas, on the other hand, are only dangerous in large packs. (http://crimenet.blogspot.com/2005/12/chihuahuas-pack-attack-police-officer.html)
Basically, it is the difference between a man with a machete and a man with a butter knife: Even though the guy with the machete has never done anything wrong, people are still going to look at him funny when he sits down to dinner.
Or something to that effect.

i looked at the picture and what you said about big and, well even before looking at the picture i was thinking about clifford, the children's animation on pbs and i think a book or series of books before that. then something else occured to me that might also fit: Klatu, the friendly giant intelligen robot that everybody is paranoid of from the day the earth stood still.

cleemu or clem fur short. this gets back to furry instead of mechanical but keeps the applicable conceptual essence of both, though without being so excessively obvious about it the way names hoomans asign to houshold comensels i think waaaay to often do.

yep cleemu or clemu or clem. of course if you can, it's better to just let him 'tell' you his name. instead of being all cutsey and clever and trying to lable him with one.

LOL, yeah, we decided to name him beast......although everyone in the family has a different reason for liking it

My hubby says beast because well beast (http://the-wild-hunt.org/x-men/beast.gif)

my 4 year old and her friend like the movie Sandlot (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108037/), and the big dog on that is named Beast

my 2 year old, says it's like Beauty and the Beast, where he looks scary but he is really nice.

I like it because I wanted the dog to have a name fitting his size, and maybe he will scare the kids down the street. LOL

Thats a good dog raised in a good home. He can sense the family's comfort level or suspicion- if a stranger knocks at the door, he'll be on guard, but if its a friend or family, the dog probably was aware when their car pulled up. They know how you feel about people and situations without any deliberate signals from you.

my older dog, Buddy, is protective of us, every week my mother in law comes to get the girls and every week, he stays between her and the girls until I tell him that they can go with her, at night he stays up and "patrols" the hallway, and he even stays by the girl's rooms when they are asleep, and came and got me once when my 4 year old was sick, she threw up on me right when I got in there, it's like he knew she needed me. :) I love my dog, I hope the puppy turns out so good.
