I'm looking for tracks to download off t'internet.

Can anybody reccomend some good ska (a department which I feel is woefully lacking on my iPod at the mo)

Also want some good songs from Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.

If there's anything else you fancy suggesting then go for it.

I recommend:

Any of the various versions of the Internationale (since you're a socialist). I have about a dozen, myself.

Some of Beethoven's piano sonatas, great music. I find the Pathetique and Moonlight sonatas to be great, but I also love others.

Chopin has some good stuff, from what I've heard, and what I've heard of Liszt is nice. Rachmaninoff has a lot of stuff I love, as well.

Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition is awesome. It sounds boring from the title, but it really isn't at all.

Finally, I'd strongly recommend Debussy's Clair de Lune and Ravel's Boléro, two very nice pieces of music.

Also, they're anti-capitalist.), Mephiskapheles, King Django, Rancid, Rx Bandits.

Does what it says on the tin. I think pretty much all of the ones I suggested are on there, plus a shitload others. Enjoy.
Personally I think third-wave is the best ska, then first-wave, and finally second-wave. Depends what you like really - I'm coming to ska from my punk preferences, so third-wave is the obvious choice. If you like reggae then first-wave would be more for you, is my guess.

If you like the "Seattle-sound", Modest Mouse, definitely; if Mozart was alive today, his name would be Isaac Brock. Pataha is also worth checking out, if you can find them.

I think you'll find if Mozart was alive today, his name would still be Mozart.
And, IMO, Modest Mouse suck live.

Don't know how I managed to forget about them, but CapDown as well. Mix of punk, ska, and hardcore. Very good.
Cannot think of a name

It might not be Wolfgang. Though he would be churning out commercial (not as in "television ads" but in scores that he sells for commercial purpose rather than commission for performance) scores by the sheet load, perhaps for movies as well.

I liked Bim Ska La Bim, Undercover S.K.A., Let's Go Bowling, Skankin' Pickle. Some other things off California SkaQuake that I never persued. And Ska Cover to Cover, or Got You Covered. I like ska covers.

And the New York Ska/Jazz Ensemble.

All these are small bands on small labels that struggle to exist (the ones that still do) so if you are going to enjoy their music you should pay for it. It's not like thier rolling in that mad ska money. They worked to entertain you, they earned it.

Audioslave = boring. Mudhoney = HELL YES. (And they're better live. :p)

Some good (IMO) Soundgarden songs: Room A Thousand Years Wide, The Day I Tried To Live, I Awake, Gun, Jesus Christ Pose.

Do you like the raw grunge sound, DHomme, or the more streamlined and generally softer commercial one? If you like raw, try the whole of Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney. For more polished, try some Screaming Trees.

His next move is to admit to listening to Britney Spears, and then he will have completely levelled his reputation.

Go to google and type in Limewire. Press enter and go to their main website. Download their free software and download all the music, videos, and pictures you want. Make sure though that the songs are mpeg so that they will go on your Ipod. Then when you download a song drag over to your library on Itunes and it will then be added to your ipod the next time you update.

You forgot Catch 22, Big D, and Flaming Tsunamis. Good stuff, man, good stuff. You should get some REAL CDs, though. Then you know about good music and old music, like Zeppelin and Hendrix

Also want some good songs from Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. The best Pearl Jam songs are "Corduroy" and "Black", so I'd start with them. The best Soundgarden songs are "Birth Ritual" and "Bleed Together."

In addition to the other Seattle bands suggested, I'd also like to suggest Green River and the Melvins. Of course Nirvana, too, but you should already own everything by Nirvana.

Jeez, I put together a list of 20 bands covering almost 50 years of ska, and I get told I should put more on? Bloody hellfire.

Ooh, and Mudhoney are playing a random gig in Nottingham in May, and I'm going! Woo!

Or it's a convenient way to carry around alot of music without a bulky CD or tape player and a backpack full of CD cases.

Everyone else, cheers for the reccomendations

I'm not begrudging your ownership of an mp3 player. But did it have to be an iPod? The most consumerist, capitalist of them all. Sums up pretty much everything bad about that consumer culture.
