Alright here it is: The PSP and DS have been selling very well, and they both provide good gaming. But, which is best... that....is the question.
Nintendo DS (Touching is good.....)
Pros:
Nice baclight, graphics are N64 at best, dual-screens a positive, and the mike is a nice little quirk thrown in thier. Also, at 100 bucks cheeper, and games for 15-25 bucks cheaper, im not complaining price-wise. Also, sturdy!!! Being hardshell plastic, and clamshell designed, it is fairly hard to break.
Cons:
Wi-Fi sucks!! Access points pain in the ass, and 30-100ft for DS to DS play? Give me a break.
PSP (It's like nuts, you can play outside)
Pros:
Nice screen, good graphics, ps1-ps2 resembling, multiplayer is alot easier to manage. Analog stick a plus and nice sound. Loving the movies and music too.
Cons:
Breaks easy, too pricey for a handheld system, and no second alog stick! (*sobs*)
Final:
DS score: 8.5/10
PSP score 8/10
What do you think?
Pfft. I run an emulator on my phone. Takes care of all the hand-held gaming, and far more effective too.
You know... I thought this was going to be something rude...

They both suck; PSP would be a great device with a touch screen and PDA like applications pre-built in - it would then actually be something that could be useful for more than just the pimply faced teenager with a movie and game fetish.
I'm not too bothered about either, but if I had to get one it would be the PSP, purely because I don't trust Nintendo when it comes to games. Sure, they can be very fun, but they tend to aim for a younger audience than Sony games. It was the same reason I didn't like the Gamecube - don't you feel a little silly playing a game called "Super fun mario sunshine yay!" when you're older than, say, 14?
I'm sure the DS has a lot of good games, but overall I'm willing to bet that PSP has more.
I'm not certain why you've had such bad luck with the wifi, but mine is excellent, the 100 foot range encompasses my entire dorm. The clamshell is, quite simply, the single best thing you can do for something that has a screen and goes in your pocket, but mainly, it's the games.
PSP Has very few notable games, with standouts being Lumines, GTA:LCS, and wipeout pure.
DS, on the other hand, is consistently pounding the market with games like Meteos, Mario Kart DS(The Greatest Game Ever), Castlevania DS, Advance Wars DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World. DS gets bonus points for making out-of-nowhere standouts like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Trauma Center, and Electroplankton. Do yourself a favor, import Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!.
Pile that on top of a system thats an overall 100-150 dollars cheaper, along with games at nearly half the price of the PSP, we see a real winner in the DS
Well this was inevitable

If your masculinity is threatened by a video game system, you need to take a step back. On my dorm floor, we haven't played Halo 2 in months, whereas games like SSB:M, Super Mario Strikers, and mario party are on pretty much constantly.
And while we're on this, match the Awesomeness of RE4 or Eternal Darkness with any other game, ever. The only one that comes close is System Shock 2

Who said anything about my masculinity being threatened? I still play old skool games which were made for kids - I recently bought the sonic mega collection for my PS2. I really enjoyed it at the time, when I was younger, and play it for the nostalgia.
However, when I want to play a new game now...I'd prefer something with a bit of plot to it which goes beyond "Big nasty man comes, makes bad mess, yay mario come save the day with good friends! Everyone is happy!". It just isn't as fun as when I was younger. If I want a simple platformer it doesn't matter if it's theme is childish or not, but nowadays I wouldn't spend good money on a recently made game that is designed for kids 6 years younger than me.

So what is your idea of a game with a decent plot?

Hand held gaming is dead, the gameboy was teh best!! WOOt!! pc is where it is all at!!:D
So what is your idea of a game with a decent plot?
Deus Ex, Silent hill games, Metal gear solid, most of the Final Fantasies.
Nintendo, I think, are more about quick, fun little games which you don't really have to think all that much about. Some people prefer that, and I used to, but no longer. The N64 also used to be good for multiplayer - you couldn't beat 4 player Golden Eye or Mario Kart. However, it just plain wasn't as good as the PS1 when it came to single player games. From what I've heard and seen the Gamecube is the same deal when compared to the PS2, and i've got no reason to believe it's any different with the PSP and DS. It's just what nintendo do, and i'm not bashing them, but it doesn't appeal to me.
I'm aware that they do have games with good, mature plots on their consoles, but not really enough to make it worth buying it for.
I actually own a PSP, and so far, the games have been fun. No need to use it as a mp3 player, or as a movie player, but that isn't why I purchased it.
Expensive, but for me, worth it.

No, but then I also collect My Little Ponies. I just generally don't give a shit if people think I'm childish, and I don't have the energy to be self conscious about trivial crap like what games I enjoy playing. But, to each their own, I guess. It's logical that if playing a game makes you feel silly, you won't enjoy it :p
And just a note (after seeing the games you do like), if you know someone with a GameCube and Eternal Darkness, give it a shot. It? Is not shiny and cutesy at all. And it's plot is awesome (mmm, lovecraftian).
And while we're on this, match the Awesomeness of RE4 or Eternal Darkness with any other game, ever. The only one that comes close is System Shock 2
You win to the power of two, both for liking Eternal Darkness and mentioning SS2. If I hadn't scoffed all the cookies I had, I'd offer you some. Is RE4 really on a par with ED/SS2? Maybe I should stop ignoring it when I go Trauma Centre hunting.

RE4 isn't the same type of game as Eternal Darkness. It's much closer to an FPS than any of the previous Resident evils(It uses a wierd third-person camera), and is less scary and more nonstop adrenaline pumping rock-out awesome. This is the reason you own a gamecube, go out and buy it.
Deus Ex, Silent hill games, Metal gear solid, most of the Final Fantasies.
Deus Ex is a PC release, Metal Gear solid is a social experiment, the last final fantasy to have a decent plot was VI, the only one that works here is Silent Hill.
Really? Final Fantasy? VII:I'M ANGSTY LETS GO SAVE THE WORLD. VIII:I'M ANGSTY LETS GO SAVE THE HEY WE ALL KNOW EACHOTHER SINCE WE WERE EIGHT. IX: Yay we saved the world oh wait time for poorly thought out final boss who shows up three seconds before you fight him. X:I'm Angsty let's go save the world oh its my dad what do you know!
As a test, I'm going to have to ask you what Pyramid Head was.
