I recently read Arundahti Roy's The God of Small Thing, and I don't think a book has had such an affect on my since I read Tom Robbin's Jitterbug Perfume in 9th grade. In fact, I'm thinking about getting "small things." tattooed between my shoulder blades in a very small typewriter font.

but yeah, anyway, what are some books that really hit home with you guys? spring semester starts in 2 days and i want to read more for pleasure this go-around.

Carl Sagan's The Demon Haunted World made me value critical thinking and science alot more and made me much more angry at the anti-intellectualism and popular pseudoscience in American culture.

Jitterbug Perfume with me as well. Helped show me the magic and wonder under the skin of existence. Fierce Invalids returned home from hot climates, or whatever the fewkin thing is called, by Robbins had a similar effect when i was suffering angst after a bad relationship ending.

Back in the day I was really influenced by To Kill a Mockingbird. You've probably already read it, and it's not so huge for me anymore, but it made a difference then.
