Looks like we have evidence here of Saddam being in bed with Al Qaeda as of 2002. Any bets as to how long the Left can keep saying, "B-b-b-but Saddam and Bin Ladin hated one another. They *can't* be allies!"? :p

Regarless of that statement's factuality I was particularly drawn by this comic panel:

1) Use the actual link, not some dude's commentary on it. I can do without his opinion.

2) http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060127/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/colombia_passport_ring
And it starts of with:
The United States on Friday asked for the extradition of eight people arrested as part of a sting operation to dismantle a false-passport ring, although U.S. officials disputed Colombian suggestions the suspects were linked to Middle East terrorists.
And the number of times the word "Iraqi" came up in the article: Zero.

But whatever floats your boat.

The interesting thing about this is that the original article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060127/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/colombia_passport_ring) doesn't mention Iraqis until the very bottom. The only information given is that they tried to enter Columbia- nothing on their final destination or any of that. Two questions occur to me:

1) Were the Iraqis really terrorists? The first paragraph notes that US officials doubt that this fake passport ring was actually a smuggling line for terrorists. It seems entirely possible that these guys were trying to illegally leave Iraq, for fairly obvious reasons. Which leads to my next question:

2) What evidence is there that these people were working with Hussein's government? They could just as easily be acting on their own, either leaving for one of many good reasons (poor economy at home, distaste for dictatorship, etc.), or possibly (if one makes the stretch that they are terrorists) trying the glean support in the Western Hemisphere against his regime- because, yes, Hussein did hate Al-Qaeda, and the feeling was mutual. The fact that they're Iraqis does not mean that they were working for Hussein; saying such is simple-minded at best and downright bigoted at worst.

Basically, the event seems to be a fake passport ring meant for one of any number of reasons (not the least being attempts at illegal emmigration) that certain bloggers have interpreted to mean that the Iraqi government had intimate ties with terrorists. You see, this is why I don't read blogs; their arguments tend to be built on threads of gossamer.

Try pointing to an article talking about government-sponsored Iraqis who were definitely terrorists; then we'll talk.

Side note: The comic I saw in the left margin attacked the left by attacking PETA. Come on now; pointing at PETA as the spokesmen for the left is like pointing at Pat Robertson as the spokesman of the right.

Dear GOD! 3 Iraqis using Israeli passports supplied by Al Qaeda. This must mean that Iraq, Israel, and Bin Ladin are all bed buddies, right? So...the American citizens that have been wiretapped for suspected terrorist connections...I bet there's more than 3 of them. So, by your logic(or the blogger's really, but you're agreeing with them) these Americans connected with Al Qaeda are implicit proof that George Bush works with Bin Ladin! I don't have to attack the source, the logic fallacy is a big enough target to hit with a planet buster.

The next time Iraqis take part in a terrorist attack on American soil will be the first time Iraqis take part in a terrotist attack on American soil.

Well, it was amusing that you chose Captain's Quarters as something resembling a source. Everyone else has already demolished Ed's ramblings, so I figured I'd provide the obligatory slam Celtlund was waiting for.
