Vampire or Lycon?

Ok i have just seen underworld and i am certainly going to see the new one that just came out. Its been on my mind, would you rather be a lycon or vampire?

This is for anyone who hasnt seen underworld, if youve seen it then you can skip this part.

Lycon=wherewolf. In the movie underworld, wherewolves can change when ever they want, whether theres a full moon out or not. Vampires do not sleep in coffins and use alot of guns and dress like the guys in the matrix. Both are really fast and really awsome, but if u ask me, lycons all the way!

Lycans are awsome man, when i saw the begining of the first movie when the vamps. followed the lycons down into the subway and the lycans just stop and turn around and start shooting i could just see myself being one of em and pulling out 2 mp5s and unloading on the vamps.

Why? It's true. Who's ever seen a female Lycan? Apart from [Insert your own butch woman's name here].

And vampires have the cool history, the cool looks, and the kick ass technology. Their fuel-air grenades in the second film - they rock.

Examples: (subway with the lycan and the vampire when they jumped out of the back of the train.)

(end of first movie when the one vapire has those razor ropes against the same lycan as above, they didnt do shit.)

Vampires are too soft and tactical in my opinion. I'd rather have raw power than a delicate grace. Plus sucking blood is just a gentle method compared to ripping something apart.

Just a little FYI

The vampires in the movie are 'Lycans', not Lycons. Short for lycanthrope, the proper name of 'were' animals, including wolves.

While I haven't seen the second movie, using the first as well as common mythology, a vampire would cream a werewolf in single combat any day.

Aside from that, vampires are sauve, sophisticated, highly graceful and intelligent, and far from least immortal. However, there is a feral aspect to vampires, characterized by the uncontrolable lust for blood.

Werewolves are beastial, primal creatures that represent all the animalistic instincts people have brought into the fore.

Vampire. Every time. Though, I truly detest how vampires have been turned into some sort of modern goth/punk trend. Wearing leather and shooting guns? Pfft. By taking away their limitiation, they’ve just become less interesting.

Dracula, now there was real vampire. Sophisticated, wealthy and intelligent.

I also hate how a mangled version of lycanthropy has caught on amongst this same group as well. A werewolf is either a poor victim, doomed to kill or a pervert who sought the disease out.

Just a little FYI

The vampires in the movie are 'Lycans', not Lycons. Short for lycanthrope, the proper name of 'were' animals, including wolves.

Not "proper" just Greek.

In old German were means man (where we get the word verile) and wolf is some sort of wild dog-like creature. Like a jakal, but bigger and more social.

Lycos is greek for wolf, and anthropos is greek for man.

Since werewolves are a Germanic myth, I don't see what's so proper about the Greek word.

While I haven't seen the second movie, using the first as well as common mythology, a vampire would cream a werewolf in single combat any day.

Werewolves can be killed by silver. Vampires can be killed by having their heads torn off. A human might need an axe and a fencepost, but the werewolves from the movie just need close quarters and a minute.

Aside from that, vampires are sauve, sophisticated, highly graceful and intelligent, and far from least immortal. However, there is a feral aspect to vampires, characterized by the uncontrolable lust for blood.

Not to mention they can't eat anymore. I'm not sure that hot chicks is worth all that much when you've got no sexdrive (undeath is kind of a bummer that way) and steak still smells so damn good.

Werewolves are beastial, primal creatures that represent all the animalistic instincts people have brought into the fore.

Funny though, that vampires were always solitary in mythology, though wolves are social creatures. In the movie, the wolves act more like cats who fight all the time, but will still hang out together in the backyard of the old lady who leaves bowls of kibble lying around. But the vampires have this strict hierarchy of unquestionable leaders and loyal followers.

Amazing the way Bram Stoker managed to color vampires so much when they had been nothing more than zombies for so many centuries before Stoker needed a euphamism for sex.

The christianized version of the myth has it that way. But there are a lot of older myths that recognize admirable qualities in wolfs' behavior, insofar as animal behavior can be equated with human behavior.

A lot of cultures have practically diefied wolves. A lot of Native Americans are big on that. The Vikings had a shamanic practice of communing with bear and wolf spirits. A lot of negative figures in European myth are just positive figures viewed through christian gossip.

I agree with you about the vampires though.

I’m well aware of that. I just always liked the idea that they are some sort of evil hell-spawn better, Probably due to my unhealthy fascination with Morrowind,

Interesting thing about that game, though. In the expansion “Bloodmoon” there is a group of Viking like peoples that revere bears and wolves, and werewolves are seen as some sort of perversion of their bond with them.

Historical parrallelism is common to that game.

I would be a vampire hands down, the Lycans are too angry and animalistic, they can't control their hunger. The vampires are sofisticated, they take blood by cloning it, never killing out of hunger (at least in Underworld). Also, are lycans immortal also? If I had to choose my favourite would be Alexander Corvinus.

hmmm.. pro's for Vampires:
1) can hibernate for a LOOOONG time.
2) liquid diet.

cons for Vampires
1) sunburns
2) will always look like a Goth.

Pros for Lycan
1) can walk among humans
2) no time restrictions.
3) cold, wear a fur coat.

Cons for Lycans
1) Fleas...
2) Leash laws
3) do lycan's ever go bald?

hard to choose.

big brute beast, no seduction power except what I was born with. what am I gonna do as a beast? just flipping live life like normal. but as a vampire I can fricking seduce anyone, and gain power. Think about it this way as well...vampires are just badass humans. werewolves are freaks of nature. If a vampire guy tried to take over the mofia, and some guards caught him while he was sucking the life from the last boss, they would well...bow to him. A werewolf? pffff they'd kill it.

I wouldn't pick either. Werewolves in mythology were uniformally either poor, tortured souls or horrible monsters who inflicted the pain and damnation of lycanthropy upon themselves. Vampires were uniformally soulless monsters who lived only to kill and drain, starting first with the people they knew and loved in life. I wouldn't want either life.

If you mean purely in terms of the Underworld universe, probably Lycan. The vampires in those movies weren't cool: they were a bunch of aristocratic pansies who didn't know what to do with their time except lounge around and apparently use up their line of credit at South Beach leather. In combat, unless you're an elder or Selene, you're just a walking bag of dog food. Finally, I can go out in the sunshine when I want to as a Lycan, while I can't as a Vampire. The Lycans by contrast are solitary, but absolutely vicious combat machines.

As a side note, I thought it kind of funny that one of Alexander's sons took the form of the bat, and one of the wolf after they were bitten. Imagine the possibilities if Alexander had made them raise a hamster.

Bleh sick of all the anti-therianthropic propaganda as of late. Vampires are the incarnation of what humans do best suck the life out of things. Instead of sucking the life out of the land and everything around them Vampires suck the life out of humans.

Therianthropes include the well known lycanthrope but include and are not limited to vulpanthropes [werefoxes], ursathropes [werebears], felianthorpes [werecats], herpithropes [werelizards]. As a Kitsune we have good relations with Were-foxes as we are often mistaken for them at times and they for us at times. At least we know the balance... We've been guardians of humanity for millenia sometimes seen as gods to some civilizations. We live among your kind and as your kind even during times of the full and new moon when holding the beast within is more difficult, especially for teenagers. A first shift can result in them becoming feral as all the emotions and sensations rush through their bodies. Sometimes they go on rampages... or just chase their tails till they pass out from dizzyness or puke... or both

In Underworld Evolution it's explained that the first lycons could never take human form ever again, they were cursed in a never ending rage to hunting and killing, they were simply wild animals. It was the later generations of lycons that were able to channel their animal instincts, take humans form etc? But if they dont feed even the more evolved lycons will kill and eat humans out of pure animal instinct, Selene told Michael that if he didn't take blood he would attack humans and he wouldn't be able to control it. I prefere vampires just because of that control issue.

I would take Lycan rather than a vampire. Why? Two main reasons.

1) I get to go out in the sunlight. Now, This would be a big plus. Not only would I be able to talk to my friends instead of say, phoning them in the middle of the night, but I could also buy things from stores I like, most of them open in the day, and not fail school or get fired from work.

2) No one would dare piss me off, and I would be king of the Fight Clubs. Think about it. Feral abilities, amazing agility and strength? Hell yeah, I would definitely be a werewolf. Screw immortality. I would rather die a violent and kickass life than live forever on a shitty planet rotting away in boredom looking like a goth.

Yeah but the other way around could lead to some nasty puncture wounds.
True, but you'd probably be even warier about putting it in a werewolf's mouth...

I saw the second one yesterday. There's very little plot, but it's made up the amount of lubricious deaths. In no particular order: someone gets their head knocked clean odd, a person having their head cut in two, lots of impaling on wings, A werewolf getting the entire top of their head ripped off, someone putting their hand clean through someone else, someone getting impaled on a spike, and someone getting thrown backwards into a spinning helicopter blade. Fantastic.

As for the question, I'd be the huge bat guy. All of the vampires should have looked like him. That would have been badass.

There is a far more fearsome toothy fur bearing wild beast underground.

Impervious to all weapons save hand lobbed shrapnel devices... fear the LAGOMORPH!

I prefer vampires, seeing as how I roleplay as one more often than not.

That and Selene is just SO HOT! That and she kicks ass as a TRUE vampire. The others weren't. You're only a TRUE vampire if you can stand the sunlight without discomfort.

I admit, selene was hot but when did she prove herself a true vamp by being in the sun and not being in discomfort? and if your talking about the end, the reason she wasnt buring was because she became imortal after drinking Alexanders blood.

One hell of a BJ!

I don't know if anyone's pointed this out yet, but vampires suck. Also all male vampires are gay, so the hot female vampires are useless to them except to draw in guys for them to suck on.

I always believed it was a given on all counts.

Vampires are dependent on blood, making them overglorified leaches, while werewolves have shapeshifting powers and animal strength, so I'd say werewolves are cooler.

Seconded!

The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch FTW!!! I thought it was a Vorpal Rabbit

Also an interesting thought

I ment the law that you have to be with someone over 18 to see a rated R movie...

both Underworld movies are MA in Australia.

Vamp all the way.

And to point out a few things, only the older lycans (that's how you spell it damnit) can change at will. All others have to wait for the moon. Who the hell wants to turn into a rabid bloody dog anyway?

Vampires have super strength and senses, they maintain their mental capacities and they can use all sorts of weapons.

And if you've seen what happened to Selene at the end of UW2, then you'll know things can even get better.

Lycanthropes are not the "rabid bloody dogs" as you claim. Natural born lycanthropes are able to control their form normally, infected lycanthropes will have that problem but learn to control their forms.

Underworld again is just a continuation of the Bulls**t vampires are good line that people are going with (I blame the Goths). It seems that vampires have hired good spin-doctors/lawyers who are the vampires of the business world (they feed on $$ not blood!).

I wonder if other creatures will get positive facelifts in the movies soon. Succubi and Incubi anyone?

The very first lycans in Underworld could not even change back to human form. It was only after centuries they learned some control.

Pay attention to the movie and don't bring in other sources.

Anyway, personally I'd prefer not to turn into a dog when I can keep my natual form and still get some nifty powers... :D

Werewolf. Lets face it; I hate everything about vampires, whatever the mythos. For that matter, I'm seethingly despise the so-called 'mystical' werewolf (Damn you World of Darkness), but the Lycans from Underworld are no bullshit 'guardians of nature', they're just wicked killing machines. All the cunning, viciousness and malice of a human coupled to the raw power of the beast... so totally sweet.

Plus, even when you're not a wolf you're probably still stronger, faster and possess more senses and stamina than a normal human. If I was bitten, my mates would be so in on it. We'd have a pack in no time, then we'd take over the crime web in our area and become untouchable ("Thinks he's a big man cos he's got a gun?" *BLAM* "heh... nice shot. Ooh, pretty shiny moon! *GROWL*").

I just know, as well, that in Britain, you'd get Chav vampires. Whole damn estates being slowly corrupted one tower at a time, with the living becoming terrified slaves to the undead. Even without the whole "the vampires enslaved us" war thing, that sort of vileness would need to be destroyed!

If I recall this isn't just completely about Underworld. Therefore My arguement stands unfettered by that movie.
