Being a Nordic person, seeing "asatruers" is just sad. Let it go. Just let it go.

Actually, I'm a reformed Asatruer. I believe in the morals and ethics of Norse mythology, while not actually professing to know what's beyond life.

Besides, I'm German, I can Asatru as much as I want.

Think Nordic mythology, with Odin/Wotan and Valhalla and Locke and Valkyries and other such quaint stories we tell our children. Modern asatrue is silly in the sense that a Greek person who would still believe in Zeus and the rest would be.

Because the mythologies are so much less likely than the Abrahamic religions >_>

Because raping and pillaging foreigners are such nice ethics and morals.

It gets sadder, still.

Well personally I don't find any of them very likely. But good luck with that though.

Those are silly, too, but they didn't die out a thousand years ago to have people a millennium later start "believing" in them. What's next, subscribing to the Enûma Elish, and worshipping Marduk?

Yeah, it's not like they're part of the syllabus for Swedish history class grades 2-4.

Dying out has nothing to do with it. All religions are as stupid as each other. Besides, I said, I was a Reformist Asatruer*.

That's "Hávamál," and more like read the Poetic Edda and Snorre Sturlasson's/Snorri Sturluson's. As I said, they're popular children stories. Nothing more.

Ehh, grammatical marks take too long. And the Havamal was actually a book of Odin's ethics, at least in part.

Yeah, it does. I believe in the morals and ethics of Norse, not the actually mythology.

The morals and ethics of Norse aren't all that different from any morals or ethics, other than that they were so easily set aside when one needed to be savage. "Asatro/Asatru" is the mythology. You're not an asatruer - you're a picker and chooser.

Ideally, everybody would be a picker and chooser. Unfortunately, most people take the "Help the poor and hungry" with the "Let's go and slaughter infidels".

Maybe its just because I'm in the States, but I have trouble not being just a bit uncomfortable around mos Asatru types; theres just waaay to much cross-pollenation with white supremicists over here. Is it the same way in Europe? I mean there are pleanty of great heathen/pagan/reconstructionists but among those who identify as Asatru there is a disturbing tendancy to listen to Burzum and praise the works of monotesticled ex-artists from Austria.

Sutured, you beat me to a similar response.

Also, please, that was not an "ex-artist". I strongly believe that had he ever been an artist, few, if any, of the things we are referring to would have happened. That's important.
