one of my favorite threads from way back (always repeated itself, so im sure its around here somewhere) was the "create your dream band of the awesomest people in your opinion" thead.

the quote my not be exact.

either way, its simple. get singers, songwriters, guitar players, flute players, situar players. whatever you want.

so.. go!

my band would be as follows

Singers/Songwriters - Les Claypool, Dan Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart)
Guitar - Curt Kirkwood, Dan Van Vliet
Bass - Les Claypool
Drums -Jason Kourkounis

and i would rock.

Vocals: Me....if I cant choose me...then Glenn Danzig Pre-1983, or Roger Daltry.

Lead Guitar: Toni Iommi.

Bass: Since I dont want to choose two people in the same band, Im gonna say James "Igor" Jamerson. Otherwise I would have chosen John Entwhistle.

Drums: Keith Moon was the baddest drummer ever....however, going along with my earlier imposed rule, a close second falls to John Bohnam.

and an obligatory honorable mention to Bill Ward, one of rocks most influencial, yet, underated legendary drummers. However, Ward was (is) never the timekeeper Moon, and Bohnam were, but his thunderous sound and innovative fills made up for it.

If anyone knows who my choice for Bass is, good for you...you know your music.
For those who dont....find out.

James Jamerson was a mo-town bassist right? And if I remember rightly he carked it about 20 years ago. I don't know much more than that.

Good enough...

But he was more than that.

He and his band, "The Funk Brothers" played on more #1 Records, than Elvis, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and the rolling Stones.......combined.

CoC has the honor of having my favorite album of the 90s, and also "The Second Biggest Rock and Roll Let-Down Album."

I love thier album "Deliverance."

However, as I eagerly anticipated "Americas Volume Dealer", once I heard it, I was so let down, I was pissed.

The only other such dissapointment, was "Metallica"...the Black Album.
From such a high note with And Justice for All...to.......that.
Sigh..and its been straight to the shitter from Hetfield and Co, ever since.

I'll take a double cast, just in case one is temporarily unavailable or dead. This happens more often than you would think, really.

On mic: Jeff Mangum, Neutral Milk Hotel/Spencer Davis, Spencer Davis Group

On the drums: Andy Summers, The Police/ Mitch Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix Experience

On bass guitar: Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy. See, one dead already. He could have done lead and backing vocals, too. I'm gonna have to go with Barry Adamson, Magazine and Nick Cave.

On lead guitar: Bob Mould, Hüsker Dü/ Paul Westerberg, Replacements

On Rhythm Guitar: Eddie Hazel, Funkadelic, during the maggot brain era. Or Bob Dylan, he's the archetype of a rhythm guitarist.

Results may sound revolutionary or just plain odd, I can't tell.
When adding John Linnell, They Might Be Giants, on harmonica, you could always sell it to a bunch of dopes as progressive rock, perhaps...

Aye, Deliverance is the only album of theirs I own (their albums are kinda hard to find here) - though it does definitely rock. Was hoping to get more, but hmm, might avoid that album. You might like the bands Nebula and Clutch as well, they have a somewhat similar style.

As for Metallica, eh. I don't think i've ever "got" them....or the other big thrash bands.

Ive heard some Clutch, its not bad, but also not quite my cup of tea.

As for Metallica, I really like Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and "And Justice for Al"l, in fact, I would venture as far as to suggest that IMHO, "Master of Puppets" is the "Sgt Peppers " of metal, in as far as how much it influenced every metal band after it.

Master of Puppets is a good album, I don't deny that (and the others are too) - but it just doesn't click with me. I'm not blown away with it like most people seem to be. I don't dislike the band at all (well, I do the modern incarnation, but...), it's just...yeah. Not my cup of tea, as you put it.

That really is the beauty of music.
We can take a classic album like that one, and both agree that while well written, and expertly played, we have different opinions on whether we like it or not.

Is anything else in life so subjective?

as good quote about him goes, "He hits the drums like they owe him money."
