I am very fortunate.

You know, a while back my dad explained that life is like a Poker game. Everyone gets a hand, and you just have to play the hand that your delt with. I've seen alot of people who's been delt a bad hand in life. I've seen poverty, mom/dad/wife/husband that ran out on the family, abuse, molestation etc. The list could go on. I reflected on what I've seen, and I've been delt a very good hand. I have a good loving caring family, good friends, and I'm accomplishing everything I want out of life. Yet, it pains me when I see someone with a bad hand. I just wish I could switch hands with them and give them a break. I consider myself a strong person with a strong foundation, and I dunno, I would like to think that I would be able to withstand the bad hand. The worst I've had was being born with Goldenhar Syndrome and having around 20-30 surgery in my lifetime. Sure I've been discriminated base on my looks (North Carolina DMV, and the FAA), I've had girls that wouldn't date me because I look weird, but who doesn't go through that. It's better than what some people go through with on a regular base. Thanks for reading my post, I just felt like I had to get this off of my chest because of what happened to a very close friend today. She's been delt a bad hand and I dunno, I wish I could help her, I wish I could help her more than I am able to do right now. Hell if it's possible I would switch life with her just so she would have a better life. Welp, thanks for reading my thread.
Sorry about your friend. For what it's worth, I do know the feeling.

I've had a bad life. I won't mention how so in this thread. I've mentioned things in others.
But no matter what, I can always find someone worse off than me, if I try hard enough. Sometimes its what keeps me going.

Know how it feels.
In the poker game of life, I actually do pretty good!
Unlike when I actually play poker.
Most people who were born in a developed country are very fortunate. I personally have a genetic kidney disease, which means by the time i'm 40 i'm probably gonna be on dialysis and loads of medication, go through a lot of pain and sickness, and will eventually probably need a transplant. My father has it, and doctors advised him not to have children in case he passed it on.
Still, I still regard myself as infinitely lucky to be born in the country and age I am in. To even be alive is a great blessing.
On a seperate note, I do think for some reason that overall i'm very lucky when it comes to gambling. I don't do it often, but when I do I seem to win more than I loose, which is strange considering the odds are balanced against the gambler most of the time.

I had a friend once, who gave me the best advice ever: When life deals you a bad hand, bluff your ass off.
(I can't beleive that I forgot to include it in my previous post.)

We're all pretty fortunate.
Here we are on the NationStates forum. We sit at our computers, eating HoHos and drinking Mountain Dew. How bad can our lives be?
Somewhere in the world, a child died of starvation in the amunt of time it took me to type this.
Yes, I'm very aware of how fortunate I am. I wish more people here would realize how fortunate they are.

In some parts of the country they call em KingDons, but here, they're called DingDongs.
My absolute favorite are Chocodiles, but they don't sell them in New England. :(

Drake's makes it. It's abit like a Suzy Q. But the cake part has a very different texture.
I used to love em, but I prefer the moister Suzy Qs now. The devil dog cake sticks to the roof of my mouth. :p

Most people who were born in a developed country are very fortunate. In relative terms at least, I agree. I've had a few really nasty things happen to me in my life, and there's time I rant and rave, "why me? What did I do? The world hates me!" etc etc, and then I think of the cruel starvation in Sudan, for example, and I realise that in comparison to many, many people, I've got a pretty good life.
Sorry to hear about your friend, Stone Bridges. I hope that, if possible, her problem will pass quickly.

I actually had a pretty bad childhood, I really don't think I need to go into it in detail, but the basic, poverty, abuse, abandonment, drug addiction ect. I am fortunate in the way my life seems to be turning out, I have overcome so much, I actually have a husband that respects me, and would never hurt me (physically, emotionally, ect.) in a million years, I am part of a functional family now (me, my husband, my kids) I have food to eat, a place to stay, friends, basically everything I need and most of what I want. I feel so lucky that I live in a place where I could overcome such a bad start in life, I feel sad when I think of the women in other parts of the world that have no choice in life, that are someone elses poverty, that have no way to escape abuse and mistreatment, that don't even realize that they are being abused because it's so rampant that it's almost a given that women don't deserve any better treatment than worms. :(

Move to Oregon, get a permission slip to check out from two doctors certifying your life is not worth saving, and have a cup of Jim Jones Juice.
