my favourite ever would have to be jimi hendrix

not sure about "best"

edit: oh there's a poll... well of that lot, linkin park. seen em live twice (great stage shows/live sound) and i do like their lyrics and unique sound. wouldn't mind getting my hands on more of their stuff than just hybrid theory

out of those U2 is the best....
But my favorite is the Offspring and Modest Mouse.

my farovite songs:
Teenage Wasteland

Baba O'Riley, maybe?

Anyways, there're too many awesome groups out there to choose just one. I would have to say Radiohead, Tool, Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Foo Fighters and Audioslave are among my favs right now.

I like K-OS. And Rob Zombie.

My personal favorite of that list, would be Other. I really love their lyrics in "None of the Above":
The other choices suck ass,
Horrible clangour with no substance or flair,
And now we have won by default

My 4 favourites are U2,Abba, Coldplay and colours.

What do I think? Worst. Poll. Choices. Ever.

U2 is a close second to the masters themselves: Pink Floyd.

Wow, off that horrible list it has to be the Gorrilaz. In real life, there are too many to choose from.

Out of the choices above, I went with U2. While they are an incredibly good band, they are not my favorite. That honor goes to The Postal Service, The Old 97's, and as of recently, The Decemberists.

Although some may value your opinion, by only demeaning the possible opinions of others you make your opinion possible to be held of value by less.

My opinion seems depressingly with peer, and if you consider the fact that everyone here who announces that one of those bands is the best is echoing my feelings about all the other bands, I am hardly alone in my sentiment.

If Larry Mullen Jr. knew his band was on the same list as some of these losers, he's beat you up proper.

This seems like a rather modern-centric poll. What about the bands/artists that were the influences behind these newer ones? (granted U2 has been around since 1975, and is the best on on the given list)

MetallicA

Genesis (incl. Peter Gabriel)
Rhapsody

I don't like U2 much, but they're the only half-decent one on your list.

(Okay, Linkin Park is listenable when heavily inebriated. Early Green Day is good, and Slipknot have about 4 or 5 songs that I like.)

U2 is probably the only listenable band on that list...

 Woah.. I actually said something (kinda) nice about U2... *waits for Universe to implode* :p

Serious answer then:

The best, eh...

The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Velvet Underground, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Stooges, Black Sabbath, The Kinks, The Dead Kennedys, Public Enemy, Candlemass, Nirvana, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Pantera, The Melvins, Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Sonic Youth, The Smashing Pumpkins and Alice In Chains.

That'll do.

The best band ever probably broke up without ever playing a gig.

The best band I've heard is Emperor.

The Kinks,

Kinks!

Kinks > Beatles, any day. Best (British) band of the late 60's.. :)

the question is . what is good respectivelly best ?

-great compositions ?
-being the first one who created a special kind of style or make them public?
-monstrous arrangements ?
-virtuosity on their Instruments?

nothing of that applies to any group in the poll above...

I'd say a mix of all the above. One or two alone doesn't really cut it.

Dire Straits is the best band. Followed by The Who, Genesis (without Peter Gabriel), and Cold Chisel

Of those listed, I only have an album by green day (international superhits).

My favourite band is probably shihad.

Those poll options almost made me sick. My favorite artist is Steve Vai; he's a superb musician, a perfect instrumentist and one of the best entertainers I ever saw live.

I find it funny that you are clearly baised towards rap and mainstream "pop" crap. edvinced by the supportive 'cuz' after 50 cent and the 'barf' after slipknot. Slipknot is a great band with a unique sound and lyrics that are more than whats on the surface. when you understand them you understand the band. I am proudly a maggot(if you dont get this, dont ask) Just wondering how old are you like 14 or 15?

Deadhead, is to The Greatful Dead, as Parrothead, is to Jimmy Buffet, as "Maggot" is to Slipknot.

Now, select a .2 pencil, and begin.

Isn't there a law against being a Heavy Metal and Linkin Park fan simultaneously? Surely, you're either one or the other but never both, right?
I'm gunna choose other.
