They both have militaries.

Neither are colonies. (Although every European nation has "retirement colonies" in Iceland. :p)

Iceland was given sovereign status in the 1940s. They're a small republic. Anyway, they are no longer considered part of the danish kingdom and very few of the citizens that were born before that time when they split off the danish kingdom are alive to vote in Denmark today.

Greenland is a part of Denmark. Greenland has some autonomous rule, but the danish parliament still rules over Greenland and Greenland still gets to vote in the danish parliament.

Iceland owns Iceland. Greenland owns Greenland.

They both have militaries.

Neither are colonies. (Although every European nation has "retirement colonies" in Iceland. :p)

They certainly do not both have militaries. Iceland doesn't have any armed forces, they are "defended" by the americans (whom they don't want there, apparently they'd prefer the danish from what I hear). Greenland, as far as I know, is dependent on the american soldiers in the north and the danish soldiers overall.

Oh god. I think you just gave my 6th grade geography teacher a heart attack.

Iceland is a sovreign European nation. It was formerly a colony of Denmark.

Greenland was and is a colony/overseas territory of Denmark.

Iceland took major steps in free school meals. Every child gets a 'free' school meal (through taxes) which consists of healthy foodstuffs.

If they don't want healthy, they go hungry for the day.

It's a social democratic republic just like other western European countries. They reason they are so obscure is that only 300,000 people live there. Of note are their very restrictive alcohol laws.

Random facts about Greenland: (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Greenland)
Greenland is a tropical paradise located just west of the Mayan Riviera. It's name comes from the lush forest and open grassland that dominate the countryside. The capital city of Greenland is Nuuk. Greenland was discovered by Christopher Columbus, who got lost on his way to Aruba.

Greenland technically owns Denmark, which is why maps often have "Denmark" written in small letters below its name. The Presidency of Greenland rotates weekly between the nation's three citizens.

Rumour has it that Greenland has a large nuclear arsenal, which is the primary reason that it is generally left alone. President Bush of the United States of America considered placing Greenland in the Axis of Evil list, but due to threats of an immediate and devastating attack, decided to reconsider. Greenland currently is threatening nuclear war with Canada over an uninhabited hunk of rock over which every other country in the world is entirely indifferent.

Another curious fact is that Greenland ain't known in a lot of places of the world. In Brazil, for instance, people is convinced that Greenland doesn't exist in fact; to them, Greenland only appears in the strategy board game WAR (very popular among Brazilians) as a strategic obstacle to make it difficult to conquer North America if you are in Europe. This is the only real utility of this forgotten (green) land.

Random facts about Iceland: (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Iceland)
Iceland is a land-locked nation bordering Croatia, Glaswegia and Greenland.
Basically it's a floating iceberg volcano inhabited by a handful of great blondinos and few purple penguins and a cat.

The population of Iceland is extremely homogeneous, being almost entirely of Penguin origin. The population of Iceland (2003 estimate) is 280,798. The overall population density is 2.7 Penguin per sq km (7.1 per sq mi).

Bjork lives here, making Iceland a level 4 biohazard, detrimental to humans, animals, most fauna and sanity. See also New Bjork City.

The current King of Iceland is the well known Dr. Feelgood also known as Reverend Feelgood. The last King of Iceland was Elvis Presley who suffered from a Vitamin C overdose in 1997.
...
They have been involved in only one war and that's the Iraqi war 2003, when they supported the former Iraqi government which ended up with an U.S. invasion in Iceland. Millions lost their igloos.

The language, Icelandish, is entirely unvoiced and oddly has no word for "sleep-through-the weekend in the summertime". It is closely related to the "Ainu" language of the natives in Japan. The most used Icelandish sentence is "ríða núna?" = Fuck now?, the second most popular - or famous - sentence is "Who cares?". It was recently discoverd that the Icelandic language is actually just english backwards.

Actually the U.S. is a large amount of desolate wasteland upon which the evil hamsters frequently test nuclear warheads, producing such mutated creatures as George Dublya Bush.

The only exceptions are Alaska, which is in the process of seceding from the hamster controlled theocratic communistic anti-social fascist capitalist neoconservative libertarian anarchist police state, and Hawaii, which refuses to acknowledge that anyone else exists.

So what type of Governemnt does Iceland have... and how come nobody heres about them?

It's "hears". There is no such verb as "to here".

If you want to know about the government of Iceland, I suggest you start by doing some basic research on the Althing. As for your other question... I assume it's just because you've never looked them up. Granted, Iceland doesn't often make the news, but then that's true of most countries. How often have you heard Chad, Bhutan, Kiribati or Belize mentioned in the news?

You can look them up by yourself, you know. A little geographical and cultural knowledge has never harmed anyone. :)

I tend to think that everyone should at least have heard of all 192 recognised sovereign nations, plus a few others, and know at least roughly where they are. (No, Togo is not in the South Pacific! That's Tonga. And Suriname, contrary to popular belief, is not in Africa. It's in South America.)

And to whom ever said that all Vikings were Norweigan, that's not right either. The idea of being Norweigan wasn't even there yet. Here the term Scandinavian or Viking passes well.

What's so special about Google? Maybe NS is his Google? He got his answer, didn't he?
I'm Google's NS representative that's why!
And if NS is his Google, I don't get my NS-Forum-Member-Google-Search-Bonus when y'all spoon feed him the answers! And I need that free McDonalds coupon bad. I've got industrialized beef cravings like you can't believe.
Way to be on topic. You didn't even answer his question. Just jump and tear apart my attempt to get people to find out things themselves. Pfft. ;)

Those wily Icelanders must have WMDs! Quick! Invade! Occupy! Order the troops to start shooting their toes off! For America!
That make since if America already hadn't already began to protect Iceland with American forces. Why? Well, you see:
[there is only] 296,737 people. That's why.

Poland doesn't exist.
Even Bush knows Poland exists. And Conan O'Brian knows Finland exists.

You've never heard anything about Iceland?
I've heard of it - I've been there! Very strange waking up at 2am in July and it's still light outside.

Iceland is a parliamentary democracy, like most of western Europe. It's parliament, the Althing, was founded in 930 AD and is the oldest surviving legislature in the world, although it has a period of non-existence from 1800 to 1845.

The oldest continually-existing parliament in the world is the Tynwald on the Isle of Man.

It's "hears". There is no such verb as "to here".
<snip>(No, Togo is not in the South Pacific! That's Tonga. And Suriname, contrary to popular belief, is not in Africa. It's in South America.)

LOL, yes reading seems never to be a fault. The steady decline of general education is really a problem

right... but they are never mentioned(maybe because they don't have enough "pull") in signers of treaties and stuff... like the Kyoto Protocol, and their stance in Iraq... etc etc.

Actually, Bush mentioned them as part of his 'coalition of the willing' back before the start of the war on Iraq. To show how this wasn't a case of USA invading another nation, but in fact a war which a number of countries cooperated with the US in.

-And yes, Iceland has no army.

Greenland is severely deficient in green. Just as Iceland has some ice, but not a tremendous amount, except in winter. The names should be switched.:p

Iceland has lots of ice. Just not as much as Greenland.

Exactly, it was Lief Erikson if I remember correctly.

LEIf Eirikson, actually. The Vikings didn't care much for any of your silly "'i' before 'e' except after 'c'" rules. In fact, they didn't bother with 'c' at all!
His contemporaries would have called him Leifr Eiriksson, though.

Aanyway, he didn't discover Greenland. His father, Eirikr Rauði Þorvaldsson did. Leifr was the first European to set his foot on the North American continent, though. Quite a family, that.

I think Iceland is trying to become the first country with hydrogen as their primary power source. The interior of greenland is very, very sparsely populated

Hydrogen is not really in itself a power source. Hydrogen gas can be used as a means to store and release efficient energy, but you have to invest more energy in synthesizing hydrogen gas than you get from burning it. Iceland has the great advantage of ready access to geo-thermally heated water from which they can produce electric power, though. This cheap, abundant and enviromentally friendly way of producing power can be used to synthesize hydrogen gas for use in buses, cars, etc. This might be what you mean.

And to whom ever said that all Vikings were Norweigan, that's not right either. The idea of being Norweigan wasn't even there yet. Here the term Scandinavian or Viking passes well.

Actually, the idea of 'Norway', 'Norvegr' or 'Noregr' (literally the North Way) is older than even the kingdom of Norway (about 1020 years old by now.) It refers to the coastline from Skagerrak to the Kola peninsula, which more or less matches the political entity of Norway today. Obviously, so is the identity of being a Norwegian (that's 'g' before 'i',) i.e. "an inhabitant of the North Way". The Norse colonists of Iceland and Greenland were all originally from Norway.

The Vikings were not all Norwegians. Nor were all Norwegians Vikings. It is also wrong to replace 'Viking' with 'Scandinavian' or 'Norseman'. A Viking was a Norseman who went off to plunder and pillage. Some times they would go to England, sometimes to France, some times to the Baltic nations, but a lot of times they would just go to the neighbouring fjord to plunder.
