Yeah I forgot to mention about the mock election results from schools across Canada. Schools in 284 ridings (not 308) participated in this student vote. :)

The results are very interesting:

# of seats / vote share %

Conservative: 128 / 31.5
NDP: 64 / 23.2
Liberal: 52 / 21.9
BQ: 33 / 1.6
Green: 6 / 16.7
Independent: 1 / 1.2
Others: 0 / 3.9

Total: 284 / 100

Source:

The result concludes a Conservative minority government, with the NDP as the official opposition.

Likely alliances:

Conservatives + BQ = 161
NDP + Liberal + Green = 122

Any discussion?

You know, it took me for ever to know who won the election. It tortured me through all my classes!

Forgive my ignorance on Canadian politics. But, couldn't the NDP and Libs theorietically form a majority co-alition?

What, in real life or as part of this 'student votes' thing?

No - a coalition has to include the party that wins.

I'm quite surprised that the conservatives still win in this poll. I saw a poll of 18-24 year old voters on CBC (the Hour) that said that the NDP leads, followed by the conservatives, followed by the liberals (If I remember correctly).

Thank you. I wasn't sure on that one. I know that in Australia -at least- two minorities parties can overtake the actual winner. That's how the Liberal-National Coalition Government came to power.

That is not what Global News said. They said that either Mackenzie or Meighen won the PMO becuase of a coalition they formed with the Progressives. The Conservatives had more MP's than the Liberals did alone.

I find this whole thread a laugh. The title is the kicker though! I thought it was comparing the Canadian elections to a high school election.

And your student government president is....!!!! Canadain Democracy, LOL!

If the NDP and the Liberals hopped in bed and trumped the Conservative win, I'd expect Quebec separatism to become a serious problem, and perhaps Alberta separatism become more than just a joke.

The west would f*cking riot.

The west would f*cking riot.Well, Alberta might. Northern BC might. Maybe Saskatchewan. But southern BC, the lower mainland, and Vancouver Island wouldn't. And that's about half the population of the West right there.
