I recently got the following email sent to me. Dispite the fact she doesn't appear to know her own name, that's not my email addres & this email is filled with the foul odour of bullshit. I've decided West African email request for information always go well and should send her my bank details... actually the bank details for the Deparment of Fair Trading. I wonder how the government takes to being ripped off?

A west afrian with a canadian email address, always fun.

And you provided her with real bank details? I pray to God if you gave them bank details they weren't real or you were planning to never work again. If they get used and money extracted I wouldn't like to be you.

The bank details for the government office that investigates internet fraud, yes. Don't fret people, I did let them know what I was doing first.

I hate the ones that try to act desperate. If they're so poor, how are they affording to send me stupid emails? I wonder that.

I got so many of these damn things, together with general spam and phishing shit, that I changed my email address and am now really careful about putting my email address online. I don't having to 'give in' like that, but I was sick of it.

Public libraries, maybe?

Most public accesses are blocked of email and pornography (which is irrelavent to the topic, but hey).

ARRGGHH!! Don't EVER EVER dob them in!

You can have so much fun with them. You wouldn't believe how far they go sometimes. I convinced one guy that I was a Jacques Roquefort working for a company called WMD Engineering in Libya. And then I sent him a doctored picture of Michael Moore, and eventually got into a theological debate with his 13 year old "lawyer". Who eventually agreed to convert to Taoism.

To be honest you could have given them a random sttring of numbers and/or letters for your bank account details and they wouldn't have noticed. The only thing they'll need your account details for is to transfer the funds into your account. And before that happens there'll be numerous technical and administrative hitches requiring immediate transfers of funds from untraceable Western Union transfers. These low-level operators probably wouldn''t have the initiative to do anything even if you accidentally gave them the correct bank details. Not that that is advisable.

Reminds me of the time I got a letter from some unknown lottery saying that I won like £14 million. All I had to do was send my bank information. The funniest part was that the alleged security firm I was to send the information to had managed to spell it "Secruity" on the bank form!

Don't screw them around too much; here in England, there are several stories of scammers attempting to intimidate people who string them along. One guy got badly beaten and his car stolen. Of course, I've no idea why he gave them his real details, but these guys are still criminals.

That’s the solution! We should pull funding from all libraries immediately! That will reduce internet fraud!
