I bought a box of tic tacs and threw them at the keyboard one at a time, left handed from the opposite side of the room,. This is the name they spelled out.

That would be nice but, if my kid asks why I gave him/her that name I have to explain NS. Nah, one addicted member in the family is enough :D

25-01-2006, 00:24
Smunkee is my name, not my real name but close enough, my record from school says <my real name>, AKA Smunkee.

My sophomore year book says Smunkee next to my pic too :D I was kidding around when I put it there, but aparently it never got proof read so that's my name, funny my pic is still alphabetically where it should have been for my real name.

Blaat = to bleat

And it is dutch, btw. Although technically the first word is english and the second is dutch, but who cares.

Ankh-Morpork was taken, and I wanted a name that evoked a hands-off government with almost all-powerful corporations that do everything.

I'll let Lord Buckley tell you why:
But I'm gonna put a cat on you

It's okay, but #21 will get a my bad side ;)

So, since you happen to understand Dutch a bit and looking at the last word, I can safely assume that your native tongue is German?
Kazcaper
25-01-2006, 01:12
The 'Kaz' bit is an abbreviated form of my first name. The second definition for 'caper' on dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=caper) adequately describes what I envisaged running an online nation would be like - a frivolous escapade. Though that escapade, or rather the related forums, turned out to be an all-consuming addiction :p
Drunk commies deleted

Then I built a new nation called Drunk Commies that was supposed to be a communist alcohol themed nation. That got deleted too.

Yep. And recently in the German thread Alinania and I were talking about how fun but frustrating it is to look in the Dutch thread - you understand just enough to drive yourself crazy about not really understanding it. I do have to say, though, that I could totally follow that very exciting discussion the other day about which supermarket frozen pizza is the best. :D

Actually, it was a discussion about circle sized pizzas and why they're put into square sized boxes (and somebody pointed out that he actually had a square sized pizza once ) :D So I guess your statement about not really understanding it is totally correct.

Well I've always been facinated by Bob. Not the Bob other people believe in.
No he is my idea, orignally nothing more than a generic statement the could (literally) mean anything. Bob rapidly grew into a complex being. Then I needed a name for my nation, so I added 'aria' to make it sound like a nation.

If I had to pick my best Blood Bowl name, well, I'd have to go with one from each team. Broggo the Unbearable, star Troll of the Biledriver, Jacques Strappe, Quarterback of the Pylons, and Hurlin Chunks, Dwarven Longbeard who retired with four fatalities, seven debilitating injuries and zero contributions to actually scoring.

My name is the name of a Russian Queen. Then with the Swedish word for "harbour" tacked on the back. Strange as it is, I named my self after a Russian city, on a Swedish island, in Finland. Anyhow, I picked it mainly for my nation. In the beginning, I was attempting to make a mirror image of the Åland islands. I'm still trying, half-heartidly, but thanks to this forum and real life, its really easy to forget about that.

Not random ....
The name was due someone else's influence - Verdigroth turned me onto the site/venture and this guy's name was the first to come to mind, since he's the guy who most recently had just undergone a few levels of reckoning to his spiritual attenuation and how they affected his perspective on world events and political issues.
Also, i thought i thought his name had a certain ring to it that made it worth while for literary pursuits.
Then some bad happens befell him *AGAIN* and he's recovering, in his fashion. And at some point he's gonna read about his legacy, as marred and tarnished as it is. ;)

The Strogg are an alien race from Quake 4 who act much like the Borg, only less flamboyant and much more gruesome. I was going to RP as them in the RP forums, but I've suddenly realised that as they don't really communicate with anybody, and I don't really want to become just another one of those unimaginative nations who can't do anything other than going to war, it's a bit of a redundant idea now. Luporum is latin for of the wolves.

Originally, three years ago, this was a mainly warring RP nation. If you knew Bisons, Belem, etc I was allied with them. Looking back I was in a war every other week :/

Once that allegience broke down I stopped warring and focused on other RPs eventually turning my nation from a warmongerer to a peaceful Roman'esque state.

There are many complex political philosophies, but "Bullwhip" speaks for itself.

Well, I am Buddhist and feel a genuine connection to (what is left of) Tibet. Still, my name is not particularly witty or clever. Something I wish I could change now...oh, well.

Cobbleism

The name of my Holy Empire is the name of my religion. The motto sums up my religion. I made up my religion before I made up the Holy Empire, just like all great empires and religions before me. It really is my religion and it could be yours too, simply contact me and offer to send $100, and I might send you a brochure.

A friend of mine told me about NS hmmm ... ... 3 or 4 years ago. In the beginning I had three Nations, two were anagrams of friends names and then Cobbleism. I left off checking my nations. Then some other friends told me they were on. I then had the server resurrect my Nation, and it was born anew.

Oscurosa

Oscuras is 'dark' in Spanish, so I mangled it a little into Oscurosa.
Black's my favourite colour.
Defiantland
26-01-2006, 07:05
My favourite starship from Star Trek is the U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205.
I just fell in love with it even though Deep Space Nine is mediocre.
So my name is Defiant pretty much everywhere, except when Defiant's taken, I'm Defiant47 (because 47 is the most used number in Star Trek).

However, here I decided to be Defiantland because I was a nation. I'm not sure whether I decided to add the "land" at the end right away, or if I put it because Defiant was taken. Oh well, it doesn't matter now.

Is black really a colour, or a hue? A shade? Achromatically speaking, it still exists, where basically all colour doesn't otherwise ... except maybe gray.
Uhm ... mostly purple then?

Yes, technically black is a shade. It consists of no colour.

Nah, you're not caught ;)
Black is the complete absence of colour on the light scale.
Black is the complete absorption of colour on the material/physical scale.

It depends on what angle ya got, i guess!
Jaku
26-01-2006, 08:59
In Japanese 弱肉強食 is "jaku niku kyou shoku" which literally translates as weakk meat is food for the strong... basically the Japanese version of "The Law of the Jungle" but I couldn't use Japanese, so shortened it down to "Jaku".

How did you guys come up with your NS name?
Any particular reason for anyone, or just random?

All the "important names" to me I have already taken, and they have been DEATed for inactivity. I choose this one because my unit (the 155th Seperate Armored Brigade) is called the Dixie Thunder

I had a very basic football management game on the BBC Micro in the 80's for which you had to tediously enter all your own team and player names.

I had a kind of World Cup Super League with all made up countries; Valdania was my team, the best player was called Sharackz I think.

I think its funny how people try names and find they've already been taken.
All the names I've ever used have been free. First try.

I really thought out my prior incarnation, and liked that name (though was disapointed no-one got the reference, indeed some people thought it was my real name!), then (having long forgotten the password to the account) I lost access to the email account I registered the Nation with and shortly after (before I had the sense to do anything about that) had Cookie problems that left me unable to log into it...

So, this Naton was a "tada! here I am again!" sort of thing. Hence the name.

I just put world at the end of my name. I had a place called zolland which i prefered but it got deleted for some reason.

Mr Chuck Norris
27-01-2006, 03:50
The Holy Empire of Mr Chuck Norris

I chose this name for several reasons:

1) The Holy Empire of... anything sounds sweet when being preceeded by that phrase.

2) Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.

3) Chuck Norris counted to infinity - twice.

4) The chief export of Chuck Norris is pain.

5) Chuck Norris has already been to Mars; that's why there are no signs of life there.

6) Chuck Norris can touch MC Hammer.

7) Chuck Norris' hand is the only hand that can beat a royal flush.

8) Chuck Norris ordered a Big Mac at Burger King, and got one.

9) Oxygen requires Chuck Norris to live.

10) Chuck Norris can unscramble an egg.

11) Chuck Norris can eat soup with a fork.

12) Chuck Norris challenged a statue to a staring contest. Chuck remains undefeated.

13) Chuck Norris can divide by zero.

14) The only thing that can cut Chuck Norris is Chuck Norris.

15) Chuck Norris knows how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.

Those are only a few of the reasons why my country is "The Holy Empire of Mr Chuck Norris".
