UPPER CHICHESTER -- A township man wanted for the kidnapping and rape of his estranged girlfriend is behind bars after surrendering to police Monday. Gregory Thomas, 47, of the 3300 block of Chichester Avenue, allegedly professed his love for the victim and asked her to marry him after authorities say he raped her at his Willowbrook apartment Friday.

Thomas is being held at Delaware County prison on rape and kidnapping charges. Delaware authorities have also issued a warrant for Thomas, who allegedly forced his former girlfriend into her car outside her workplace in the 1100 block of Carr Road, New Castle, Del., at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

According to the affidavit of probable cause issued by Detective Thomas McNichol and Officer Michael Smalarz of Upper Chichester:

The victim, a 39-year-old woman, told police she was walking to her car after work on Friday when she was confronted by Thomas, her former boyfriend. Thomas allegedly forced her into her car and ordered her to drive to his home in the Willowbrook Apartment Complex on Chichester Avenue.

The victim said Thomas threatened her as he ordered her into his apartment, then into the bedroom, where he forced her to disrobe, the affidavit states.

The woman told police she feared for her life as Thomas raped her, the affidavit states. After he assaulted her, Thomas allegedly asked the victim if she loved him and if she would marry him.

Thomas then forced her to drive him back to his car, which was parked outside her workplace, the affidavit states. The victim was able to flee and contact police.

The victim had filed several protection orders against Thomas in the recent past, the affidavit states.

A search warrant was executed at Thomas’ apartment Saturday, according to police. Phone contact was subsequently made, and Thomas agreed to turn himself in Monday.

Thomas is charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, kidnapping, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David Griffin and remanded to Delaware County prison in lieu of 10 percent of $200,000 bail.

A fugitive warrant was also issued. Bail was set at $100,000 on that warrant.
