90s/2000s.

60s/70s a close second.

80s/90s third.

50-59. The emergence of R&B, rockabilly, and rock and roll make this the premier decade, even if you think that other decades had better music.

That's right, the BeeGees and Donna Summer really did it for me -- not.

How about the sixties? Music was a big business, but the formula bands hadn't really started yet. Things were still very experimental. Good bands and bad bands, both had a chance to get recorded.

Then, of course, there was the Dead and there was Bob Dylan, while he was still drinking. So many more good bands started playing in the sixties.

1) 70s - fun fashion and good music
2) 80s - music was ok, just avoid the fashion
3) This a really distant third, 90s and 2000; there seems to be less and less talented people, and more manufactured half baked entertainers (note NOT singers). There are still some good artists, but they seem to be ones that existed back in the 80s.

Hmm. Most of the music I like is from 87-97...

But late 60's stuff is awesome.

The Sixties were, by far, the best decade for music. Not only did you have an explosion of experimental rock, ranging from pop rock like the Beach Boys and Beatles to the origins of harder rock in the Doors and other such bands, the invention of the jam band in the Dead and Ten Years After, etc, but you also saw the glory days of jazz. Miles Davis was at his best, as was Coltrane and Monk. Blues wasn't as powerful as it had been, but BB King and others really came into their own in that era.

What can I say, psychodelic drugs and musical experimentation leads to a great deal of good material. Thank Miles Davis for Bitches Brew at the end of that decade for changing music forever, just as you thank Elvis a decade before him.

The 90's (late 80's is ok too).

Live, Collective Soul, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Third Eye Blind, R.E.M, Soundgarden, The Offspring, Counting Crows, Days of the New, Candlebox, Bush... you get the picture. :)

'80s

Megadeth (although slightly before their best IMO) Dio, Metallica at their best, the NWOBHM (Saxon, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Tygers of Pan Tang etc.) and more

The best decade for music is clearly the 70's.

Everything from the Beatles, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, to punk, and everything else.

The 80's, however, was tragically poor for music.
The height of disco, glam rock, hair bands, NKOTB,Europop, Electronica, New wave...all products of the eighties.
Even distinguished bands like Black Sabbath, or Deep Purple, or the remaining Beatles, put out crappy albums in this decade.

Even Pink Floyd, who some would say never produced a crappy album, released "The Final Cut", in 83-84.

Stephistan would disagree, but as for me...its too moody, and depressing for words.

The 90's were more forgiving, and gave us Grundge, and we took the good with the bad, but it was a welcome relief to hear bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains,etc...instead of Loverboy, White Lion, and Dangerous Toys.

So far, the 2000's, have not been very kind.
Theres still good albums to be found, but rarely do you get them from the major recording labels.

Led Zeppelin was primarily in the 70s, ergo, the 70s.

Late 60's early 70's. Real, good music, cool clothes and a sense of optimism in the sense that people felt they could actually change the world for the better.

you've committed a mortal sin by comparing the fucking BeeGees to Donna Summer. Donna was vastly more experimental than Dylan and the Dead. furthermore, if you think disco is all that came about during the 1970s you're overlooking the most fascinating and diverse period in the history of rock and roll. proto-punk, punk, post-punk, kraut rock, glam, noise rock, industrial, new wave, metal, etc, not to mention all of modern electronica.

Well, you got one out of three right. Late 60s to late 70s would be my pick. Everything after 1979 has, in general, sucked ass (there are a few exceptions).

90s/2000s.

60s/70s a close second.

80s/90s third.

60s and 80s

I couldn't agree more. The 60s saw more expansion of musical influences than any other decade, and the 80s saw the coming of age of the synthesizer, and while some call that a bad thing, it did give rise to many new ideas that are still being used today.

Yeah, it did, but I was ignoring the shite. Every decade has shite. And I was hardly claiming it was an exhaustive list.
