If you assert that something is illegal, and should never have been done, why would you continue to support its funding?

Sen. John Kerry yesterday called the National Security Agency's program to eavesdrop on terror suspects illegal, but he said he will continue to support its funding.

So which is it? Am I correct in inferring that Hillary has a bigger set of balls than John Kerry?

I think John is saying, " I don't condone its actions, but its purpose is a good one so I will cotinue to pay it."

NSA purpose is to protect America: a worthy goal.
NSA's actions are not helping to protect America (instead they take away rights like privacy) so he is against that.

After all, people don't stop paying taxes when we don't support bad presidents do we? :D

Are you suggesting that he should promote defunding the NSA entirely because he disagrees with the legality of the Presiden't directive on a very small portion of it's work?

What would that earn the Democrates? Another "they voted against funding counter-terrorism work" crock of shit allegation for the 06 elections?

Or would it not make more sense that the NSA should continue to be funded while people opposed to the eavesdropping work to get any possibly illegal activities investigated and then stopped if found to be in contravention of law?

Did you really need to make a thread about this? He must think that although a few people performed some illegal activities doesnt much of the organistion is bad and that on the whole the work the NSA has done is worthwhile. Maybe if the lawbreaking got more widespread he would support a funding cut.

Where did you get the quote from, because it's a little confusing--grammatically, the "its" refers to the program to eavesdrop on citizens, but it could easily be understood to refer to the NSA itself. Some context would help clarify.
