NationStates #sport and FM06

Some of us think there is too much irrelevant talk about FM06 in the NationStates channel #sport. We ask that it should be reduced, as it is a commercial program that does not involve interaction with anyone else, unlike NationStates sports such as the World Cup, or even HT.

All right, here's my thought on the matter:

Let's take the name of the channel. #sport. This, to me, would indicate that any sort of sports-related discussion, be it on NS, in real life, or anywhere else, could be seen as reasonable for the channel. The channel is obviously not restricted to NS sport, as evidenced by the abundance of discussion about Hattrick.

In fact, it was orginally just NS, but so many ppl play HT

In effect, Hattrick was allowed into the channel because of its popularity. Then why is FM different? We have at least five channel regulars playing the game on a regular basis (me, x3widRacin, LE, Spruitland, and D2R). Also take into account other games that have equal or lesser popularity on #sport that are still talked about (Battrick, Hockey Arena, Kingdom of Loathing, etc.). I know perfectly well that if Rejistania played the game, this argument would never have even come close to beginning.

And what about all the completely irrelevant stuff that pops up incessantly on #sport? The merits of different character encodings and particularly different operating systems come to mind here. If Rejis/Nanaka/CH's regular talk of Linux is allowed, then surely something actually relevant to the channel should be allowed too.

I for one will not be pushed around by someone who doesn't own the channel, and I urge the rest of #sport not to let it happen either.

Now who is being biased?

1) There is more FM06 talk than any other single topic

2) I am not pushing anyone around. I'm asking that there is less of something which only has relevance to the person playing. Keep in mind that everything else we talk about everyone has access to. Not so a commercial game. And I am not asking for talk about it to be banned. Just not so much irrelevant statistics thrown about.

I don't see the problem with discussing FM06, considering everything Bedi said was almost perfectly spot-on. If anything is going to be a banned topic of conversation, everything should be.

The difference here is: discussions! Let me try to play KoL here as you do FM06:

* Rejis|KoL logged in!
* Rejis|KoL checks again wether she finished the Cyrpt quest, bugger!
* Rejis|KoL decides to go to the big mountains
* Rejis|KoL is fighting a 7-Foot Dwarf
* Rejis|KoL does 21 damage, gains an HP, ty Takil!
* Rejis|KoL does 21 damage, wins, no item drops :/
* Rejis|KoL now has the adventure "See You next Fall", hmmmm
* Rejis|KoL doesn't know how to decide... just uses option 1
* Rejis|KoL aquires a miner's helmet
* Rejis|KoL is fighting a 7-Foot Dwarf
* Rejis|KoL does 26 damage
* Rejis|KoL does 21 damage, wins, no item drops

You playing FM06 is like that!

Coming from a non-FM player, the idea of forcing a reduction of talk on it is quite ridiculous. The only thing that gets annoying is the constant spamming done of every dang result that goes on in the game, when the game's of no interest to anyone else. Basically, as long as policies against spamming are enforced, there's no need for this discussion, nor is there really any need to drag this into jolt.

You DO realise this is not about banning it, right?

This is just about reducing certain parts of it.

All I want to say, as a regular enough joinee of #sport, is...

I DON'T CARE!!!

Surely people can talk about what the hell they want to talk about? If it bores you (as it bores me), just ignore it.

If you allow one topic completely unrelated to sports roleplaying on NationStates, you can not realistically expect to limit the discussion of other topics that have relatively little to do with the original intent of #sport based on their "popularity." If people want to discuss matters that have nothing to do with what should be talked about on #sport, create a new channel where such off topic discussions are welcomed. Keep FM and other unrelated-to-NS matters out of #sport.

Bah, deleted post messages aren't long enough. :p

As I was trying to say:

We're all blowing this out of proportion, myself included. Can't we just say whatever we want to say and ignore what we find uninteresting? Saves us all a lot of time, effort, and sanity.

We're all ignoring the fact that if we banned OOC chatter on #sport, the channel would be quiet the whole time other than group draws.
