You might have missed it unless you're a junkie like I am, but last week, Chris Matthews, on his show "Hardball," compared Osama Bin Laden to Michael Moore--there was a thread or two on it around here and you can see the video here (http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/01/19.html). CARLSON: It's not a political attack on Democrats. It's merely an acknowledgement that Osama is stealing all your best lines. Time to take a new one.
MADDOW: That is absolutely ridiculous.
CARLSON: Sure. It's totally true.
MADDOW: What about when he said, "This is going to be a generations long war and we need patience. That's George W. Bush.
CARLSON: Yea, that's one of the lines Bush uses, but it wasn't...
MADDOW: So why aren't we saying that he's getting his talking points from the republicans...
Good question--why aren't we? I'll tell you why. Because on this point, the "Hollywood left" (as you like to call us) is intellectually honest enough to note that the Republicans are not Bin Laden supporters. Intellectual honesty--you might want to try it for a change.

Funny--Matthews didn't say it was a satire when he was challenged on it. He said he was misunderstood, and I'll even grant that he didn't quite mean what he said, that he worded his statement unartfully, but he could at least be man enough to stand up and admit that he said something stupid.

If you're going to expect people to pay any attention to which flavour of authoritarian control freak you come in, don't dismiss everybody to the left of Bush as "the libs". If I'm a lib, you're a neocon, sunshine.
