Hmm...Rammstein is obviously very popular, and some of their songs are good. I like the "Reise, Reise" Album.
Personally, and that's just my genre, I also quite enjoy the "Bambule" Album by the Absolute Beginners.

Germans dont do rock very well.
The Scorpions are a prime example.
Notice they way they slaughtered a Who song.

Rammstein for sure, mind you, I don't know of any other nor have I heard any other German bands. I don't understand a word of German and have subsequently read some of their song lyrics. More often than not I wished I hadn't:( Mein Herz Brennt and Mein Teil are two standout songs for me:D

I know he's dead and gone... but I still like Falco...
damit mein eig'nes Spiegelbild mir meinen Schlaf bewacht.
Ich will niemanden wollen, nein, ich will, daß man mich will,

Yes, the same.
Er war ein Punker.
Und er lebte in der großen Stadt.
Es war in Wien, war Vienna.
Wo er alles tat.
Er hatte Schulden denn er trank.
Doch ihn liebten alle Frauen.
Und jede rief:
Come and rock me Amadeus.
Er war Superstar.
Er war populär.
Er war so exaltiert
. Because er hatte Flair.
Er war ein Virtuose.
War ein Rockidol.
Und alles rief:
Come and rock me Amadeus.
Amadeus, Amadeus...
Es war um 1780.
Und es war in Wien.
No plastic money anymore.
Die Banken gegen ihn.
Woher die Schulden kamen.
War wohl jedermann bekannt.
Er war ein Mann der Frauen.
Frauen liebten seinen Punk.
But there were more songs that I liked on his last album.
This being the 250th or so Mozart year, the song might make a comeback.

Holy cow - where'd you get that poll? It's like a bad eighties / early nineties flashback!
Out of those choices, it'd almost have to be Alphaville, really.
German rock (well, actually rather pop) is making a big comeback here now, which, though I don't like most of the bands, is kinda neat, considering how singing in German was for a very long time (at least since the eighties) not popular at all, serious pop songs had to be in English or you'd fail miserably, with only very few exceptions to that rule (like Herbert Grönemeyer or BAP).
I hate Rammstein with a passion, and I'm always baffled by how famous they are worldwide. It creeps me out, to be honest, because (in typical German fashion, maybe) the only reason I can think of for non-German speakers to listen to Rammstein is that the German words likely make the scary music even more sinister and brutal to listen to, which I imagine some people would find cool. Am I even remotely right, Rammstein lovers?
Anyway, at the moment I really like Wir sind Helden (http://www.wirsindhelden.com/engl/worte.html#). Their music's good & fun, they have a way with words, and they're actually really nice and normal. I loved "Gekommen um zu bleiben", esp. the dorky video.

I could totally listen to that for 2 hours.
However, I don't have their albums, so I really only know the single releases, and I just spent some time listening to their songs on their site, and - meh. I didn't even know that "Wenn es passiert" was a Helden song - I've been hearing it lately and thought it sounded like one of those icky bands like Juli or Silbermond with the voice of Rosenstolz (I do think that Judith Holofernes does sound more and more like Rosenstolz these days). Not exactly good, IMO. "Echolot" seems to be just the same, and "Geht auseinander" is so Neue Deutsche Welle circa 1984. Of course, "Guten Tag" from the first album sounds a lot like that, too, but the lyrics on that one are just too good. And "Denkmal" is great, too, of course.
Basic line: I really like their more quirky stuff, but I won't be buying any albums soon.
ooy, you, i'm on a roll now :D
"denkmal" i was really on when it was first released, but now..meh, it's still on my regular playlist but..usually the beginning pisses m off so much that i skip the whole song

lass es liiiiieeebe sein...okay, sorry. so i was rather big on jh once, but meh.
"guten tag"? w00t! also, my flatmate complained about nur ein wort by now, so i switched to "aurélie". *will now have to stay off-keyboard in order to resume dancing*
Probably Amon Duul 2 (Can were great as well, but they didn't sound like a fidgety muso version of Hawkwind) or Billie Ray Martin.
