Wha?
No. I haven't seen any.
WTF are talking about? Link please?
But, then again, I'm on the islands, where everything is backwards and makes no sense. *sigh*

No, that's just Finns getting excited about a foreigner speaking their language.
Try speaking Finnish, you'll find out why.
I wouldn't dismiss the idea of Tarja getting bonus points from this, but my guess this is stictly Finnish business, and not Finland-Swedish business, or even Åland business, as I haven't seen any. And they do, now that I think about it, look alike, especially the facial region.
Traja is trying to create awareness about Finland, that's all. Which is the direct effect of an American being interested, even mildly, in Finland.
There has been more talk of O'Brien here lately, like I remember hearing the name twice in the course of the day. Nothing much other than that.
In other words, I haven't seen any. But I think its possible, as humor is funny.
The link seems pretty much right on the mark from what I know.

Of course. There are many Finns living in USA. Tarja wants to make sure that they vote her too.

"Fish recognize a bad leader," O'Brien says in broken Finnish to laughter from his studio crowd.
Honestly, I wouldn't have understood a word he said wihtout English subtitles.

Well, you probably wouldn't understand me either when I'm trying to get a cab in Turku! We English speakers are bad, in general, with languages. Give us some slack. No, a little bit more. More. OK, that works. Thanks!

Heh, at least most people around here understand you if you want to speak English.

Anyway, it's Maarianhamina to me

That's saved me a couple times. Swedish doesn't fly so well to my surprise. I get in a cab, say where I wanna go, and the driver just goes, "Where to?" in English. My only alternative would be to respond in Spanish, if not English, and I doubted that was a viable option.
Actually, one of my friends made a connection between the "-land" in England, and the "-land" in Finland. Before I came here, he said to me, "At least you're going to a place where they speak English!" No so far from the truth I was surprised to find out, despite English not being an official language of Finland.

Most Finns speak English much more fluently than Swedish. I've studied Swedish for 10 years but I've needed it probably less than 10 times in my life.
That was a lie. I used to live in Kokkola and had some Swedish speaking friends there. And when I worked in customer service in Helsinki I needed my Swedish skills every now and then. But usually I speak English with Swedes. Their dialect can sometimes be so strong that it's difficult for me to understand what they are syaing.
I've forgotten almost everything I've learned...

Well my opinion about the whole learning Swedish thing in Finland isn't the most important thing. Swedes know English. Finns know English. No problem there. But then again, I'm biased, and foreign! :p
