Do you agree with me? Do you hate it when big companies and governmetns change things just so they dont offend a small minority? Ex: At christmas outside of many stores the greeters said "Happy Holidays" insted of "Merry Christmas" WHY THE **** IS THAT NECESSARY???????

To be inclusive of other holidays. People always claim that "Merry Christmas" shouldn't be offensive, but those people sure do get worked up over the phrase "Happy Holidays". Is "Happy Holidays" so offensive?

It is when the word "Christmas" is fobidden.

It is when the word "Christmas" is fobidden.

The word "Christmas" isn't forbidden. These companies are making decisions that are the best for them profit-wise. They've determined it's more profitable to say "Happy Holidays" than "Merry Christmas". If you think any business makes a single decision for any reason other than profit, you're naive. So, establishing that, what do you have against these companies making decisions that help them the most financially? What are you, a pinko commie? ;)

And yet we may not be offended by Ramadan, Divali or Hannukah cards.... egalitarian system, or contrived and injust imposition I wonder?

Inasmuch as somewhere between 66-90% of the people believe in Christianity... if you have a tough time looking at Christmas trees, you can emigrate to Saudi Arabia, and sayonara to you!

I think political correctness is great. For too long many diverse groups, like the differently-abled, those of a non-traditional sexual orientation, People of color, and other valuable diverse people have found themselves oppressed. Now by using different names for them we can empower them to realize their potential as human beings.

Yay political correctness! It lets us offer a helping hand to those who have, through no fault of their own, been victimized by evil straight white christian men without having to actually do anything.

Or, that people actually don't give a damn. Most of us sane people don't care whether we're wished "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas". The only people that actually care are lunatic fringe groups trying to save the world from discrimination one pleasantry at a time and ultra-right religious types who are constantly the victim despite being the largest single voting bloc in the country and more or less controlling every aspect of the nation.

Does a company doing that really offend you that much? If they choose to say "Happy Holidays", why should you care?
If it's government-enforced, then you've got a point, but otherwise I don't see what the problem is.

America is a melting pot of different religions and cultures. Saying Happy Hollidays includes everyone, saying Merry Christmas or Happy Hanuka discludes people. Why would you go out of your way to disclude people? As far as businesses are conserned Sdaeriji has in right in saying that businesses say what will be the most profitable. Personally, I tend to say merry christmas more often, just because my family is Christian. However, I am very anti-religion and think these holidays are consumer/religious crap and would prefer to not be wish merry or happy anything, but nobody seems to respect that. Maybe I should start a thread crying like this person did.

In other words... the majority should bow to the crybaby concerns of a 10% minority who is so out of touch with today's world that they don't even LIKE religion?
How very democratic!
Just do the other 90% a favour, and go live in North Korea, and leave us the hell alone.

PC sucks, but it isn't good to make a problem out of it unless one actually happens. Otherwise you're just wasting ammo against the PC crowd.

Religion is overrated. You can get the benefits of religion elsewhere with fewer unwanted side effects.

Carefully note: but nobody seems to respect.

That's exactly what I call crybaby concerns.
Of course, I'd be just as correct to call them adolescent-concerns.

The problem with religion is that it does nothing to enforce morals, only to enforce beliefs. People like you think the world is corrupt because people don't go to church, I think it is because religion has held its grip over society too long.

Meh. Happy Holidays has long been in use to describe the holiday period around Christmas and New Years (as well as those holidays such as Hannukah and Rammadan).

Your knickers are in a twist about nothing.

1. Odd that the holiday season existed before Christianity, then, isn't it?

2. Did you know the Puritans banned Christmas as anti-Christian?

Just one friken year without having to hear about this idiotic excuse for a battle in the culture wars, is that just too much to ask?

One word: Backlash. Lots and lots of people finally reacted the way the person who started this thread did, and started deliberately saying "Merry Christmas" with the so-called "Christmas War" in mind, purely out of contrariness.
