Chris Matthews and Osama Bin Moore.

I gotta say, Chris must be feeling the ratings heat or something. Normally he makes an effort to try and hide his political leanings through a vague appearance of non-partisanship, but maybe he thinks he need to boost up to O'Reilly standards.
Because, as much as I may do my share of laughing at blowhards from either far side of the spectrum, Chris' comparing Osama bin Laden to Michael Moore was pretty offside imho. (http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/01/19.html#a6780)
Matthews: I mean he sounds like an over the top Michael Moore here, if not a Michael Moore. You think that sells...
You know Chris, I don't think that Osama is trying to sell copies.
And I think that if a left-leaning talking head had made the same statement but replacing Moore with Hannity or Limbaugh there would be a huge scream from the right about how despicable such a comparison would be.
And they'd be right too.

He was most definitely offside there--it'll be interesting to see if he apologizes (or more likely, gives a non-apology apology) because he's gotten a lot of well-deserved shit over that comparison. Moore is many things, but no one, not even his most rabid critics, can honestly accuse him of being a mass-murdering religious fanatic.

Yeah, Matthews goes off in his own world from time to time, I've noticed.
Although, in this case, as per the transcript:

There's no question he's fully aware of the current DNC talking points.. he knows the lingo, to be sure. He only hints at the kind of stuff you get from a Michael Moore though, as with "for their own suspect reasons" and such. My question is, if the guy's such a badass, with the armies of mujahadeen massing around the globe and all, why the shit-quality audio tape? Feh.

Chris Matthews is still on the air?

Michael Moore may be many things..but the worlds most sought after terrorist? I think not.
Chris Matthews: Loudmouth, partisan schlock. He's everything you want to be.

Nahhh. I have no urge to be a hack in that vein. If I were going to be a partisan scribe I wouldn't try and fake the impartiality like he does.
Kieth Olbermann's gig, on the other hand, I'd take in a heartbeat!
Michael Moore may be many things..but the worlds most sought after terrorist? I think not.
Yeah. Unlike with Osama Bil Laden, I'm sure Bush actually does care about what Michael Moore is doing. :p

Yeah. That would be George W. Bush!
(runs away, giggling.)
Hmmm, I better reinforce the fact that I am just kidding. It's called juxtaposition and irony, folks.
(runs and giggles some more,)

Chris who?
I mean, I've heard of Bin Laden, I've heard of Moore, and even a few of these talking heads whose names are being kicked around in this thread - but who the Hell is Chris Mathews, and why should I give a rat's ass what he has to say, anyway?
Anybody?

Chris is MSNBC's main prime-time talking head and so has a fair market share in political punditry.
You know - another member of that Liberal Media that we keep hearing about but never seem to see much on TV.

Ah! No wonder. I gave up on that particular medium a while back.
Thanks for the heads-up. Now, back to newspapers, books, and the internet for me...
