So what's the deal with that Christian Science Monitor chick that got kidnapped?

Article about the kidnapping here. http://159.54.227.3/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060118/NEWS/60118024

The kidnappers are demanding that the US release all female prisoners in Iraq or she will be killed.

Does anyone know roughly what percentage of our Iraqi prisoners are female?

Will the US make a deal? Should the US make a deal? How unethical would it be to make a counter proposal that if the reporter isn't released in 24 hours all female prisoners in US custody will be killed?

I doubt that we make a deal, since we don't do bargain with terrorists. I am not sure on the ethics of it, I don't find my ethics fit in well with what everyone seems to think is "ethical".

I am going to have to go with spock on this one "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few", we can't start bowing down to terrorist demands, that's like giving in to a toddler, it will be better in the long run if we stand firm. (well, it won't be better for her.......but yeah)

I don't see us making a deal either. If they kill her it works our well for the US from a public relations standpoint too. Kinda cold, but that's life.

I heard this morning that the kidnappers are primarily interested in eight Iraqi women who were detained, processed, AND RELEASED after being suspected of being involved in assisting with suicide bomber operations and reconnaissance.

Not sure how many other women might be in custody, but it's probably not a large number.

Besides, the Iraqi government runs the prisons now - who knows what sort of activity the Internal Ministry runs - or how many women they've detained.

And no, never negotiate with terrorists.

I'm pretty disgusted by your answers people. You're basically condemning this innocent woman to die for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Isn't that, you know, heartless?

I admit that, yes, I'm a naive, peace-loving hippie, but come on! You can't just condemn her to death like that.

Option 1) Give the terrorists what they ask for. End up with an epidemic of kidnappings because people tend to follow winning strategies.

Option 2) Counter with an ultimatum of our own. Kill her and we use a MOAB on Fallujiah. End up being condemned as cruel and barbaric by the entire world.

Option 3) Do nothing. Hostage dies, enemy looks cruel and barbaric.

Clearly option 3 does the least harm.

Well this situtation is basicly lose, lose;
If they Give in to demands it'll make us as a country look weak.
If we don't then It'll Piss off the guys at home.

So... USA!!! USA!!!

I am not condemning anyone to die, the idiots who kidnapped her are. Yeah, it sucks that she got kidnapped, but what the heck do you want us to do about it?

I'm not condemning her to death. The terrorists are.

Why aren't you calling them on the phone and giving them a piece of your mind?

Between this and the guys who kidnapped a Frenchman to demand that French forces leave Iraq, it makes me wonder.

1) Are a large percentage of the insurgents mentally retarded?

2) If so, why are they so hard to track down and kill?

She was not "accidentally" in the wrong place at the wrong time---she WENT to the wrong place ON PURPOSE!

She is a reporter, who knew that she was going to the worst part of town in a country filled with terrorists who saw people's heads off with dull knives, and hate women who walk around uncovered, doing men's jobs.

It is very unfortunate, but negotiating with terrorists is not an option.:(

1. Presumably so.

2. Retarded people don't follow logic or a pattern - makes them harder to find and kill.
