Favorite North American Get Aways

So, where do all of the North American's go on holdiay?

I really don't know. My guess is California or Florida.

I usually go "up North" but that's because I have a lodge there. I occasionally travel to Ontario, because it's only six hours away, and things are slightly cheaper in Canada, or were, whatever. Its also on the way to New York, but sometimes I don't go through and do things just in Ontario. Then in New York I go to Ithaca somethimes, and then other times Chicago, then again there's Lansing and Detroit trips, but I almost always travel to see family!

Once went to Florida, and that sucked (health problems poped up out of nowhere). But other than that, I've actually seen more of Europe than North America!

I've yet to see the East Coast and the South. Lived in the Midwest for a year.

Favorite holiday destinations: definitely the Southwest, i.e. Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico. I'm a sucker for stark, deserty landscapes, so that's like paradise for me.

Oh, the very best spot: Death Valley. Incredibly beautiful. Ahhhh...

On the West Coast: Northern California (okay, and Santa Barbara & Santa Cruz), Oregon, and Washington are beautiful, too.

I'd also like to go to the Dakotas someday, esp. the Badlands part.

The only state that doesn't interest me at all: Florida.

I live in a tourist destination, so I don't have to go anywhere-everywhere comes to me. (Whereyouthinkyougoing comes to me, apparently. I live in Santa Cruz) Which is handy, because I can't afford to go anywhere.

I go to San Francisco to work and Monterey to watch races. Or work. Or both. Preferably both.

If I could travel I'd like to cross America on surface streets. The whole bit, both continents.

I know. And you even have the VW hippie bus to prove it. *still envious*
But don't worry, I'm easy maintenance, I'll just crash on the couch. Or in the bus? *concocting evil bus abduction plan*

Ooh, Monterey. The mecca for my little Steinbeck and sea otter loving heart.

Also, I completely forgot Canada (sorry guys, though I guess you're used to it). Both Vancouver and Toronto will definitely have to be visited again. Had my best Chinese food ever in Vancouver.

You start off in the Vanagon, then work your way to Veronica (the bus). I have two VW vans for some reason...(one for work one for love). Truth be told, the bed in the Vanagon is more comfortable but the damn thing has no personality, especially when it's parked next to Veronica.

We have otters here, too-but not the Steinbeck center or Canery Row. I love Monterey. It's almost as cool as Santa Cruz.

I've never been but I love Canada and Canadians. Even if I constantly tease them about saying aboot....I always check the gig ads for Canada hoping to find that position that will let me work there. Not likely(or maybe even possible, I don't know...), but hey...

living in the UK i don't get to go to the states much, but i've been to both New York/Manhattan and California twice. first time in CA was just a short stay in San Francisco, and the second was a 2 week tour in a rental car between LA and Sacramento.

from my limited experience, i'd have to say SF is my favourite holiday destination by a long way. i just love the place (would still like to live there perhaps one day :) )

Oh, I see. Eh, I can grovel with the best of them.

We have otters here
Awwwwwww, you do? I love sea otters. They're the best. Well, they and donkeys.
Are they in an aquarium or actually in the wild?

I didn't really mean to reply to every single sentence you wrote, but I can't help to be surprised - I thought many movies/shows were being filmed in "cheaper" Canada anyway? (You did work in the film industry, right?)

I recommend the North Shore of Minnesota, along Lake Superior. Go in August. Go north of Duluth, closer to Grand Marais. It's the most beautiful lake in the world. Plus, you'll get to hear the state bird of Minnesota, the laughing loon!

I'm a softy, you'd probably be able to talk me into sleeping anywhere. It's really just because the fold out bed in Veronica is broken and low on the repair list right now.

They're in the wild. They hang out with the surfers (some of the surfers say that they'll get on the boards along with the seals. This makes me nervous, though, because they're what the sharks are after...) Dolphins come around too, but I haven't actually seen them myself. I spend shockingly little time at the beach, and I usually go at night.

I'm a big fan of sea otters myself. Not so much donkeys, but hey...

I am, and they do, but I'm pretty far below 'the line,' often productions can hustle workers like me for free, so there are plenty of people to do my job already in Canada. And part of what makes Canada so cheap to film in is that the crews there will do it for less. And less at my level is practically nothing (or, as I mentioned, nothing.) Now, when I start moving up the chain and adding skills and get closer to that 'line' (technical/talent is the line) then I could get that sweet sweet Canada gig. I await that impatiently...

Digging out another thread I liked but Jolt ate. I'm shameless that way.:D

Ha, I was totally going to ask if they hang out with the surfers, but then I felt stupid. So, yay for the surfing otters. They should totally put up an otter statue next to that bronze surfer guy up on the cliff. With its own little surfer shorts and a tiny little board.

Topic? Yellowstone Park was great. And driving forever through Idaho to get there was, lo and behold, really beautiful. No militias in sight, either.

I went to a cabin in northern wisconsin for a weekend. Never have I felt better and more refreshed waking up in the morning. Gotta make myself some quick cash and move there forever. Retire before 30? I think so :)

Las Vegas, Nevada(my hometown) seems to be pretty popular. I don't see why. Once you get past the conventions, beautiful scenary, casinos, luxury hotels, and shows(Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world), etc., what is there to do? Nothing.

try Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and the grand strand area. Best flat open beaches around in the South east
The best kept secret, Holman's Bridge in Bamburg South Carolina, right on the Edisto river, its very refreshing
