This title seems like it should be in II. But the truth is often stranger then fiction. Recently an article in The Courier Mail caught my attention. The owner a North Queensland property faced the Queensland Magistrate Court over charges of Driving an Unregistered Vehicle and Driving Without Insurance.

The man's defence to the charges is that is vehicle is exempt as the diplomatic vehicle of a sovereign nation. The car was fitted with custom plates reading "DC 2 HM" and the driver was carrying a "diplomatic licence issued by the Caledonian Australis government".

Now normally the court's would throw this defence out. However, Mr Vizier's property and a number of others officially sent a Notice of Secession to the Commonwealth Government and the Crown twelve years ago.

Given that common law requires the Crown respond within nine years to a secession Mr Vizier's property is now technically a sovereign nation.

Being I'm to cheap to renew my car insurance, I think I might just apply for CA citizenship...

Hahahaa. It really is a strange and mixed up world. Kudos to that bloke for knowing the Aussie government would think it was a load of bullshit and not respond. And better yet, respect for the fact that he knew he only had to wait nine years to make his breakaway a reality. :cool:

I don't know if that will be enough to stop this. A nastily worded letter accusing him of being a "doody-head" should also be written and sent to the leader off this "nation."
The Australian government should also be sure to put quotation marks around the word "nation" whenever they refer to CA, so that he suffers the full extent of their withering scorn.

I had no idea. I thought this was all very high-profile and totally serious, albeit mighty crazy. Hell, they must have made a shitload of money off this.
