Firstly, this a thread devoted to real football, if you intend to rant about Rugby with pads, do it somewhere else.
And now.... as we all know, Germany 2006 commences soon (ish), who should win, who will shock, who will shock in a bad way, and who will, individually, be a revelation?
Predictions everybody....

Since American Football doesn't have a world cup, I suspect most people could work out the title, an those who can't or won't aren't worth bothering with.
Spain to underachieve again
Italy to be hot and cold and go out in the group stages or first knockout round
England to be generally mediocre and knocked out in 1/4 finals
Portugal to do well
Brazil to win it
Holland to do well
Serbia and Montenegro to be the surprise package.

Trinidad & Tobago and Togo should go to the final.
God, wouldn't that just be the best? I'm quite serious, too. Rooting for the underdog is the best thing about these big tournaments.
At the same time, international soccer (sorry, I just can't call it "football", maybe I'm too Americanized or something) tournaments are the only times I get ever so slightly "patriotic" - wishing our national team will go as far as possible. Of course, when we do end up winning big, I'm immediately ashamed because we never really deserve it...
Of course this year we'll have to win (or at least get really, really close) or all hell will break loose over poor Klinsmann.

Might as well go myself:
Italy to win, since they appear every inch as technically consumate and solid as ever, and have a formidable set of "world class" forwards, and Luca Toni, superb Fiorentina striker.
Brazil to be outplayed in the final by Italy however will romp to it in magnificently raucous form.
Engalnd, Holland and Spain to implode around the Semi and Quarter Finals.
Player wise, Luca Toni, Rooney and Messi ought to shock a little.
The Soca Warriors all the way. they'll beat Paraguay and shock England with a last minute goal to tie the 2nd spot behind Sweden;)

I happen to agree that Italy will win. I always have hope in them. Damn, you've pretty much sumed up how I feel.

I think I said this before, but I'll say it again, just in case it wasn't clear:
Final -> Brazil 23, Italy 20.

Like every world cup the most entertaining bit will be the english fans. Every year they come along supremely confident that their team are actually going to do well. They always disapear in some dramatic way early in the knockout stages. Awsome.

Brazil to beat Holland in the final. England and Germany to make the semis. Italy to be knocked out quick. Cote d'Ivoire to be the surprise package - Toure and Drogba could get into most European teams. Spain will also do shit.
Brazil to win over Holland in the final while England to stagger to the quarter finals before going out on penalties. Germany to fall at same stage and Spain to fail to get past first round.

I really oughtn't to but... no.... cant stop self.... :p
Drogba, walk into most European teams? The flying elephant? No chance, I'd rate Saha over Drogba.
