Please vote here for your suggestion as to a memorial for Zooke.

I think everyone who has an idea about what sort of memorial we should create for Zooke ( Sandy ) has already mentioned it. Here's the poll. Since there is room for only ten options, I removed the suggestion about naming a star after her ( which is apparently a scam of sorts ), and asking Max to name a character in one of his books after her ( already sent him an email about this ).
I've made the poll multiple choice so that those of you who have trouble deciding can vote for several options.
I don't want to post a list of those who contributed, since I have no desire to emabarass anyone who's unable to do so. The contribution will be made to the top-drawing organization on behalf of "Nation States Friends of Sandy ( Zooke )." I'll make sure the recieving organization knows what she meant to us and takes the necessary steps.
For those of you who take exception to whichever organizaton is selected, please feel free to contribute to the organizaton of your choice. If you're outside the US, and making a contribution is a problem, feel free to contribute to a corresponding organization in your own country.
It's been suggested that we form a PayPal account into which everyone can deposit their contribution. PayPal will accept a debit from your checking account I think, for those of you without a credit card. If you will trust me to do so, I'll set the account up and make sure every dime goes toward her memorial. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have problems with this!
Actually, I'm hoping that whatever organization we settle on, it will be one that we can send all contributions to directly without having to go through PayPal. There are several reasons for this, not the least of which is to avoid even the appearance of any impropriety on my part. Perhaps they can even send us the total amount contributed by NS members after everyone has donated.
The objective here is to memorialize Sandy. If a better way occurs to you, please let us know as soon as possible by posting in this thread.
NOTE: This poll will be open until Monday of next week ( 01/23/06 ) to allow everyone time to participate. After that, I'll set up the mechanism for contributions and post it. Thank you all. You're a great bunch of people! :fluffle:
Let me know if I've missed anything.

True, but there are already tons of groups and charities that donate to breast cancer research. Our donation wouldn't really be that special and merely a drop in the bucket. However, if we donate to ASPCA, it would be more meaningful, as animals were a huge part of her life, or am I mistaken? That's just my thoughts, though.

I'd say they're all appropriate in some way, but cancer research would probably be best given the circumstaces, yes? People who knew her best should probably decide.. I'd be happy to chip in if I can anonymously, although not to the SPCA.. I have a beef with them, which I won't go into..

Anything you choose to do to memorialize Sandy is great, whether anonymously or not. It's just that several people on here thought it would be a good idea to pool our efforts so it would be from all of us and have a bit more impact.

eut, its so very good of you to be doing this. you have my respect, and i'm sure sandy would be more than flattered.
i voted breast cancer research, Spinal Muscular Atrophy foundation, and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals because i feel they would all be things closest to hear heart, and will be pleased for any of those three to recieve the memorial donation.
also i'm glad you're going to ask Max about naming a character after her, because i especially like that one as it links her to how we knew her (through NS and max... if that makes any sense). if necessary a petition could be arranged but i'm sure that wouldn't be necessary
thanks eut (i know you're not looking for thanks, but where its due...)

I was suggesting the same thing.. I just wanted to chip in anonymously.. e.g., if you set up a paypal account, I'd like to add to it anonymously, that's all. I'm pretty sure that's possible, and I already have a paypal account, so I'll check this thread when I can to see what's going on.

Can I memorializ another bottle of Scotch? ;)
The PayPal idea is a good one. I'm not too concerned about the validity of an NS memorial - but given the vast political/economic/international separations that do exist here staying as non-political as possible would seem in order.
I vote for the Society to Approve the Banning of Applications to Stop Nuking Gun Toting Communist Gay Whales for Jebus. :D

Been real busy with other stuff lately and didnt know that you all had been doing all of this. Thanks bro. You're the best. I voted for The Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy foundation and heres why. Nazz lost someone he loved as much as I love Sandy only he lost a 5 year old nephew. As bad as it hurts to lose your wife I can't imagine how it hurts to lose a baby especially in such a cruel way. I can see he's not a newcomer by his post count. You all knew Sandy because she had been around a few years and offered some of what she learned in those years. This kid never had a chance to do that and that is just wrong. Sandy loved her pets and her family and her friends and just about everyone she met but of everybody in the world she loved kids the best. Dont forget she adopted and devoted her life to raising 4 handicapped kids. All the kids and grandkids were here for Christmas and she was just about the happiest and healthiest I have seen her in months. I know that she would have sent off a donation to The Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy foundation as soon as she read the thread by Nazz and put it on her list of yearly donations. Donate to whatever you support but I know Sandy would have picked The Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy foundation without a doubt.

Bro. I have no doubts about impropriety on your part and if that isn't good enough for everyone its good enough for me. If you would feel better maybe NS would do it. Whatever everyone decides is ok by me. I left a message on the sad news thread but I will send you an email before I head out. i think you're probably the most trustworthy NSer around :P
my two cents are that i think a central 'zooke fund' paypal account would encourage people to donate. its not a matter of raising more money, i just think that if people are left to their own devices to donate, it could be not as many people will pay their respects in this way. thats how i feel anyway

Don't bother with setting up a PayPal account just yet. Let's see which organization people choose first, and then let me contact them to see if we can cut the entire process short. Whichever one it is may have a way to pool contributions so that all of us will be lumped together. People can see what kind of weight we swing ... fear us! Mwahahahaha! :D
