A. From what I understand of your beliefs this isn't really what you're talking about. They're not talking about a "world mind" type thing so much as an extension of human potential, two very different concepts.

B. In any case, this is describing something not yet acheived, not something currently present.

C. If you want something close to what I think your beliefs are, you should really read some Spinoza.

A: I'm not talking about a "world mind" either. My God is simply "nature", or
more "expansively", reality (which for me equates exactly to nature).

B: I see the "singularity" not as God proper, but as an approaching "pointer"
toward God, which in fact is no different than any other pointer, except that
it's a BIG one. :)

C: I'm not overly interested in what others believe in, except in as much as
they are wrong (meaning divergent from reality) and how that "wrongness"
helps me hone the meanings of what is correct.

(( Yes,.. I know that sounds arrogant, but it's also accurate. ))

Would a "follower" of Spinoza be an interesting conversation partner?

W00t the singularity!

I'm a firm believer in the singularity, or at least a temporarily equivalent inflationary period. For all it may seem like a pipe dream or some "Rapture of the Nerds", all trends and analyses indicate that we have at most 5-6 decades before AIs and posthuman uploads are turning planets into computronium and running self-aware economies. Runaway information surge and intelligence amplification are the human race's inevitable destiny.

Computing power enough to store a brute-force ganglion-by-ganglion human upload, under $1000 - early 2020's

Okay, well, my comment is that the website offers entirely too many links, is crowded and hard to read, and therefore is not worth my time and effort get into.

I am buying the book out of pure intellectual interest. It seems a good read.

This is an interesting quote from the article, though:

When I taught basic evolutionary theory to college students, I invariably found that about 95% of them had never studied it in school.

I guess this appliesare to the USA. In Europe most schools, from what I know, are compelled to teach evolutionary theory.

I was taught evolutionary theory in grade-school "science", high-school
biology and anthropology, and in college.

This was some years back, of course, and the American school system is last
to none (pre-university) in it's competence these days, so I wouldn't be AT
ALL surprised if pre-college people are dumb as toast these days.

I've certainly found that most people HERE (NS) are dumb as toast
(irrespective of national origin or present location),.. OK that's a slight
exaggeration,.. dumb as a box of HAIR. (I'm only JUST BARELY kidding.)

Yeah,.. that's more like it. :)

Not YOU though,.. certainly.
