The greatest film ever imo. Every nanosecond is incredible beyond words to describe. The score and sound effects capture the essential meaning of the supernatural/lovecraftian/ancient/scientifically framed supernatural elements of the film. The eighties music and the piano blues song are both brilliant. The special effects are still brilliant.

It was pure genius. A bit much non-subtle humour for it to be described as "Lovecraftian" in my personal opinion, but a hilarious film.

dana "I want you inside me me"

peter- "is this a trick question?"

Ray- "As a duly-constituted representative City of New York, and on behalf of the County and State of New York, the United States of America, the Planet Earth and all its inhabitants, I hereby order you to cease and desist any and all supernatural activity and return at once to your place of origin
or next parallel dimension".

the whole gozer thing (evil god parallels with cthulu and shub niggurath) and the references to architecture functioning as a gateway between worlds is lovecraftian no?

The music is brilliant; as is the script and all the performances (esp Murray) However, the effects have dated badly.

Ray(?) "Where do these stairs go?"

Peter "They go up"

ok i agree with you on the stop motion side of things but the special effects are very artistic so that they arent just special effects in themselves. Also state puff is still incredible in addition to slimer. For 1984 they must have been amazing.
