My nephew Payton died this morning. He was five years old.
He suffered from a genetic disorder known as SMA, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Think of it as Lou Gehrig's Disease for infants. You can learn more about it here (http://www.fsma.org/).
Even though he couldn't move any of his body outside his eyes or the tips of two fingers, he could still communicate. He talked with his eyes and he could say a handful of words, mostly yes and no. He enjoyed watching movies, especially the Toy Story films--hell, any of the Pixar films, actually--and recently had developed an interest in NFL football.
He was a solid kid, and I'm going to miss him. Good thoughts are appreciated, and if you were thinking about donating some cash, even just a little, to a worthy cause, the families of SMA linked above are a good group.
Peace to all of you.

Awww, I'm sorry for your lost. I'm sure he was a great kid man. It's sad when someone so young dies, but you should remember the good things about them and how great their personality was.

I've been to a funeral for a five year old. It is so devastating and my heart goes out to you and the family big time.
My condolences.
Children who die are not really gone,
But go to a place that is something like home,
Where they sleep the deep sleep, as quiet as stone,
Until we can join them when our lives are done.
Children who die are not really dead,
But just like good children tucked into bed,
Wait the long wait while we go ahead
Till our tales are all told and our tears are all shed.
Children who die feel no pleasure or pain
In the place where they wait till they see us again,
And all of us dance in a world washed with rain
Where the sun shines so brightly no sorrows remain.

There is nothing anybody can say or do to make you and your family feel better and it has to be a lot worse when a family loses a child. I think I know where the folks here should send their memorial donations for Sandy. I'll be thinking of you.

That is a tragedy. I will contact the organization and see if they will come and speak to my Rotary Club and hopefully we will get involved. :(

What the hell is your problem, you idiot? A child died and your advertising your own damned promotion? WHAT KIND OF A-HOLE ARE YOU?

Lay off. I appreciate the sentiment and the idea that the memorial to Zooke would include a donation to the group that's working for a cure to the disease that took my nephew. I'm not pushing for that, by the way, but I am touched by the sentiment.

Sorry, I didn't notice what is was for, and I also just got ticked off by the obnoxious size.

Just a tip...one should read what they are reacting to before reacting. Doing otherwise makes you look like a jackass. Iwannabeacowboy is trying to get the donations that we are already planning on giving to be a united memorial for both his wife and Nazz's nephew.
Anyway, Nazz, if you need anything, feel free to TG me.
