any songs you listen to that make you blub?

personally i find myself often more moved by a song than movies... but i'm sure on balance they're pretty much equal.

anyway i'll get us kicked off: off the top of my head
Gettysburg by Iced Earth (part 3 - the "all this blood is on my hands" bit is real moving, for all you metalheads who know the song out there)

With Arms Wide Open by Creed (a recent favourite of mine these last few days... i just can't imagine it. well, i can.... but... ah whatever.)

Well I just heard the news today
It seems my life is going to change
I closed my eyes, begin to pray
Then tears of joy stream down my face

With arms wide open
Under the sunlight
Welcome to this place
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open

Well I don't know if I'm ready
To be the man I have to be
I'll take a breath, take her by my side
We stand in awe, we've created life

With arms wide open
Under the sunlight
Welcome to this place
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open
Now everything has changed
I'll show you love
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open

If I had just one wish
Only one demand
I hope he's not like me
I hope he understands
That he can take this life
And hold it by the hand
And he can greet the world
With arms wide open

Mercury Rev - The Dark Is Rising
I dreamed of you on my farm
I dreamed of you in my arms
But dreams are always wrong
I never dreamed I'd hurt you
I never dreamed I'd lose you
In my dreams, I'm always strong

And now the creek is rising
And all my bridges burnt
I always dreamed of big crowds
Plumes of smoke and high clouds
But dreams don't last for long

I have my suspicions
When the stars are in position
All will be revealed
But I know that until then
Unless the stars surrender
All will be concealed

And now the snow is falling
And all my fences torn
I know you need someone
And I can hear someone
Somewhere in this song

I dreamed that I was walking
And the two of us were talking
Of all lives mysteries
But words that flow between friends
Winding streams, without end

I wanted you to see
But it can seem surprising
When you find yourself alone
And now the dark is rising
And a brand new moon is born

I always dreamed I'd love you
I never dreamed I'd lose you
In my dreams, I'm always strong

The first time I heard it, it was on a cd my (now) girlfriend made for me a couple years ago (when we weren't together). We'd had a big argument, and...well, look at the lyrics. Now we're together, it still reminds me of a time when things weren't great between us.

Why Pure Metal, you old so-and-so, I never figured you'd be such a softy.

The only one I can really think of is Dry Your Eyes by The Streets, but that's just because it hit big on my dorm at the point that my very-long-term boyfriend and I broke up. It totally wraps up everything that somebody who's been dumped understands....and even though we broke up over a year ago, and I've certainly moved on in the dating scene, it's really really hard to listen to that song without still feeling the hurt.

The bridge kills me the most, though......

I know in the past I've found it hard to say
Telling you things, but not telling straight
But the more I pull on your hand and say
The more you pull away

*nods* So says Simonist.

She's Leaving Home by the Beatles. It has a hauntingly beautiful sound (in my opinion, anyway) and the subject has always gotten to me

Harry Chapin - Mr. Tanner

There's something about having one thing in the world that you care about, showing it off to the world and having people spit on it that can suck the life out of anyone.

Mister Tanner was a cleaner from a town in the Midwest.
And of all the cleaning shops around he'd made his the best.
But he also was a baritone who sang while hanging clothes.
He practiced scales while pressing tails and sang at local shows.
His friends and neighbors praised the voice that poured out from his throat.
They said that he should use his gift instead of cleaning coats.

But music was his life, it was not his livelihood,
and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole.

His friends kept working on him to try music out full time.
A big debut and rave reviews, a great career to climb.
Finally they got to him, he would take the fling.
A concert agent in New York agreed to have him sing.
And there were plane tickets, phone calls, money spent to rent the hall.
It took most of his savings but he gladly used them all.

But music was his life, it was not his livelihood,
and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole.

The evening came, he took the stage, his face set in a smile.
And in the half filled hall the critics sat watching on the aisle.
But the concert was a blur to him, spatters of applause.
He did not know how well he sang, he only heard the flaws.
But the critics were concise, it only took four lines.
But no one could accuse them of being over kind.

(spoken) Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his
Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately
his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards.
His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it
consistently interesting.
(sung) Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order.

He came home to Dayton and was questioned by his friends.
Then he smiled and just said nothing and he never sang again,
excepting very late at night when the shop was dark and closed.
He sang softly to himself as he sorted through the clothes.
Music was his life, it was not his livelihood,
and it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good.
And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul.
He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole.

The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins, by Leonard Nimoy. (http://www.myprecious.us/files/Ballad_of_Bilbo_Baggins.mp3)

In the middle of the earth in the land of the Shire
lives a brave little hobbit whom we all admire.
With his long wooden pipe,
fuzzy, woolly toes,
he lives in a hobbit-hole and everybody knows him

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Now hobbits are a peace-lovin' folks you know
They don't like to hurry and they take things slow
They don't like to travel away from home
They just want to eat and be left alone
But one day Bilbo was asked to go
on a big adventure to the caves below,
to help some dwarves get back their gold
that was stolen by a dragon in the days of old.

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Well he fought with the goblins!
He battled a troll!!
He riddled with Gollum!!!
A magic ring he stole!!!!
He was chased by wolves!!!!!
Lost in the forest!!!!!!
Escaped in a barrel from the elf-king's halls!!!!!!!

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

Now he's back in his hole in the land of the Shire,
that brave little hobbit whom we all admire,
just a-sittin' on a treasure of silver and gold
a-puffin' on his pipe in his hobbit-hole.

Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
He's only three feet tall
Bilbo! Bilbo! Bilbo Baggins
The bravest little hobbit of them all

For me, Hammerfall's "Glory to the Brave" always brings a tear to my eye.

Snow is falling down on this glorious land
colors fading, turning into white again
To fallen heroes angels sing, they cry their winter tears
endless mourning days will turn to years

So this is goodbye, I take leave of you and
spread your wings and you will fly away now, fly away now

Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave

Every solemn moment I will treasure inside
even though it's hard to understand
that a silent wind can blow that candle out
taking everything leaving the pain far behind

You call out my name, but your voice is fading
into the wind, embraced, you'll fly away now, fly away now

Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave

My eyes are closed I feel you're faraway (so close)
far beyond that shining star
I know you'll find what you've been fighting for
far beyond that shining star

Down on bended knee I pray, bring courage to these souls
make them live forever in the heart of the bold
So I say farewell my friends, I hope we'll meet again
when my time has come to fall from the grace

So this is goodbye, I take leave of you and
spread your wings and you will fly away now, fly away now

Nothing on earth stays forever
but none of your deeds were in vain
Deep in our hearts you will live again
you're gone to the home of the brave

Baltimora, Tarzan Boy:

Baltimora

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
(4X)

Jungle life
I'm far away from nowhere
On my own like Tarzan Boy

Hide and seek
I play along while rushing cross the forest
Monkey business on a sunny afternoon

Jungle life
I'm living in the open
Native beat that carries on

Burning bright
A fire the blows teh signal to the sky
I sit and wonder does the message get to you

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
(4X)

Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other chance
tonight
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other world

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
(4X)

Jungle life
You're far away from nothing
It's all right
You won't miss home

Take a chance
Leave everything behind you
Come and join me
Won't be sorry
It's easy to survive

Jungle life
We're living in the open
All alone like Tarzan Boy

Hide and seek
We play along while rushing cross the
forest
Monkey business on a sunny afternoon

Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Chance tonight
Oh Yeah
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Night to night
You won't play
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other
Chance tonight
Oh Yeah
Night to night
Night to night
Gimme the other, gimme the other

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

On rare occasions, the anthem for my empire makes me weep. Other than that, I can't recall the last time a song made me shed a few tears.

EDIT: now i remember. some of the music from the movie armageddon. strangely, though, some parts of the music reminds me of Tree Hugging Lesbians. lol.

monday morning church

You left your Bible on the dresser
So I put it in the drawer
'Cause I can't seem to talk to God without yelling anymore
And when I sit at your piano
I can almost hear those hymns
The keys are just collecting dust
But I can't close the lid

You left my heart as empty
as a Monday morning church
It used to be so full of faith and now it only hurts
And I can heart the devil whisper
"Things are only getting worse"
You left my heart as empty
as a Monday morning church

The preacher came by Sunday
said he missed me at the service
He told me Jesus loves me
but I'm not sure I deserve it
'Cause the faithful man that you loved
is nowhere to be found
Since they took all that he believed
and laid it in the ground

I still believe in Heaven
and I'm sure you've made it there
But as for me without your love, girl
I don't have a prayer

You left your Bible on the dresser
so I put it in the drawer

I am ashamed of the songs that make me cry........

Holes in the floor of heaven (in my defense I have only heard it at funerals, so I was probably more prone to cry anyway)

Butterfly kisses (which I have only heard at weddings where I am prone to cry anyway)

Don't take the girl (which is just a really sad song)

Russians by Sting...not up to date but in the times of cold war it was:

In Europe and America
There's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets

Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy
From Oppenheimer's deadly toy
There is no monopoly of common sense
On either side of the political fence

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent
To put words in the mouth of the President
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore

Mr. Reagan says we will protect you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me and you
Is if the Russians love their children too
Eh-oh

"Luka" by Suzanne Vega

My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes I think you've seen me before

If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble. some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was

I think it's 'cause I'm clumsy
I try not to talk too loud
Maybe it's because I'm crazy
I try not to act too proud

They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore

Yes I think I'm okay
I walked into the door again
If you ask that's what I'll say
And it's not your business anyway
I guess I'd like to be alone
With nothing broken, nothing thrown
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am

My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes I think you've seen me before

If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble. some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was

They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore

aww :( :fluffle:
i can't really relate to it, tbh, but fluffles anyway

another one for me. listened to it a lot (and often cried) when i was suffering clinical depression at uni and it pretty much sums up a lot of feelings through metaphor:

Empty Room by Crowbar

I've tried to hide
Hide from so many things
At times I've lied to myself

I've built a room
I can't see anything
An empty room

I'm breaking out

There is no door
No sunlight coming in
Just concrete walls and loneliness

Footsteps of doom
I hear alone at night
This empty room

I'm breaking out

Now I'm on my way

and another one that sums up the same sort of thing but doesn't really get me sad in the same way... more angry

Papercut - Linkin Park (i like their lyrics!)

Why does it feel like night today?
Something in here's not right today.
Why am I so uptight today?
Paranoia's all I got left
I don't know what stressed me first
Or how the pressure was fed
But I know just what it feels like
To have a voice in the back of my head
Like a face that I hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face watches every time I lie
A face that laughs every time I fall
(And watches everything)

So I know that when it's time to sink or swim
That the face inside is hearing me
Right beneath my skin

It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin

I know I've got a face in me
Points out all my mistakes to me
You've got a face on the inside too and
Your paranoia's probably worse
I don't know what set me off first
But I know what I can't stand
Everybody acts like the fact of the matter is
I can't add up to what you can but

Everybody has a face that they hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face watches every time they lie
A face that laughs every time they fall
(And watches everything)

So you know that when it's time to sink or swim
That the face inside is watching you too
Right inside your skin

It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin

The face inside is right beneath your skin (3x)

The sun goes down
I feel the light betray me
The sun goes down
I feel the light betray me

and one last one (chorus) which also sums those sorts of things up, and still does get me crying again sometimes when i think of the depression (and it drags up those old feelings again): (it's pretty blunt)

Dirty by Korn

I'm out here, by myself.
All alone.
Ready to blow my head off.
I hurt so bad inside.
I wish you could see the world through my eyes.
Each day is the same
I just wanna live again.

Papercut - Linkin Park (i like their lyrics!)
Yeah, Linkin Park is good for two things: ruining all culturally-based references to a posh Chicago neighborhood, and making the kind of music that puts you in a "down" state, be it sad or angry. But I couldn't list them, because I haven't really listened to much of their stuff for a few years.

There's one more that I forgot to mention, and that's Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World. We played it at my friend's funeral, so every time I hear it I think of him.

French political songs which speak about real, sad times.

Mostly songs from Paris' Commune, like "The Bloody Week".

Some of Renaud's song too (dead the children, manhatan-kaboul http://www.ac-grenoble.fr/heroult/rde/reporters/manhattan_kaboul.htm )

Or Francesca Soleville songs, like the one about Iraqi women who were pregnant when US bombed their country, or the one about Victor Jara (chilean poet, singer and guitarist whose was arrested by (CIA-backed) Pinochet's supporters during the 9-11-1973 coup. They then cutted his two hands with an axe, and asked him to play music. He started to sing "el pueblo, unido, jamas sera vencido !" and they had to shot him for him to stop).

Some song from Allende's Chile could too, like "El pueblo unido", but they are so full of hope that it hardly does ;)

Kohei Koizumi - Strength
(Text translated from Japanese)

In a world of sad dreams
Without any loved ones
Unable even to end my own life
What should I do?

By loving, I lost everything
But still, I searched
The beauty of protecting someone
That was only an illusion

Without being able to protect even
Your strength and kindness, there is only pain
If everyone was born
Unable to defy their destiny
Please, tell me the meaning of tears

I can't even fulfill
The promises I made that day
But, I thought, somehow
I am just a little happy

No matter how hard the past was
Or if you have been lost
I can see a small light
I'm sure it's not an illusion

If it is your strength and kindness
I just might be able to protect my true feelings
People's hearts are changing things
I want to try to believe that so I can live until tomorrow
Please don't cry anymore, because I'm here

Even though I'm anxious about the future
Even if our hearts are lost
Because poeple's hearts can change
I won't lose the people I love anymore

If it is your strength and kindness...
Because people's hearts can change

Live without being lost anymore
Now, don't cry anymore and start walking

Does classical music not have that effect on you? There have been many times in my life that classical music, or even non-lyrical music, has made me cry -- Moonlight Sonata sometimes does (no real reason), any Vivaldi piccolo concerto (because they're so hard to learn, I freakin' hate Vivaldi), the 'Gandalf' movement from Johan de Meij's Lord of the Rings Symphony, Frank Ticheli's arrangement of Loch Lomond and Shenandoah, and Ray Lynch's Too Wounded (among others).....

Simonist'] I....I......I just fell out of my chair. The shock.

Alright, I'll give PM the benefit of the doubt and go ahead and call you real....but somewhere in the back of my mind, I promise you, I'm secretly terrified that he can materialize his thoughts. Now I'm eyeing suspiciously the teddy bear on my couch.
actually, she could be non-real after all... she could be a virtual internet bot of some sort
but then why would she be talking about spending valentine's day together? ;) (or not as the case may be :()
mwuhahaha i wouldn't be worried about that teddy bear... worry about the hoardes of 12 foot kiwi birds stomping around outside your house right now :P
i love my imagination *nods* :D

It's fun having this kind of effect on people. I can even make people look for white text. Oh, the power :P
lol :P
i can personally vouch for the fact that this particular goddess has many more powers than just that... ;-)

Real or not I can verify that Huw is most definitly a huge softy - wouldn't have it any other way ;) :fluffle:

In answer to the OP, there are far too many to list. I'd be here all day.

I'm the same as you with songs making me cry more than movies. Though it really depends on the mood I'm in anyway.
*hugs* I love you
hehe :fluffle:
i don't like the idea of you crying :-(
but *hugs* love you too... maybe that'll help you smile instead :-)

and i just remembered some more: (both linked to depression again)

A Tout Le Monde by Megadeth

Don't remember where I was
I realized life was a game
The more seriously I took things
The harder the rules became
I had no idea what it'd cost
My life passed before my eyes
I found out how little I accomplished
All my plans denied

So as you read this know my friends
I'd love to stay with you all
Please smile when you think of me
My body's gone that's all

A tout le monde
A tout les amis
Je vous aime
Je dois partit
There are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

If my heart was still alive
I know it would surely break
And my memories left with you
There's nothing more to say
Moving on is a simple thing
What it leaves behind is hard
You know the sleeping feel no more pain
And the living are scarred

and Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult (its such a sad song dispite the happy/beach-boys style sound)

All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain..we can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand...don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly...don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man...

Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity...Romeo and Juliet
40,000 men and women everyday...Like Romeo and Juliet
40,000 men and women everyday...Redefine happiness
Another 40,000 coming everyday...We can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand...don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly...don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man...

Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared...saying don't be afraid
Come on baby...and she had no fear
And she ran to him...then they started to fly
They looked backward and said goodby...she had become like they are
She had taken his hand...she had become like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper

i'm filling up just reading that one :(

She Cries - East West

Won't you come away with me tonight?
We can fly past the moon and the starlight,
It doesn't matter where you've been before,
On a night like this,
It doesn't matter where you've been before,
I'll love you like this,
She cries...
Can't you see, I won't leave,
But you have to open your eyes.
Here I stand, Take my hand,
Let go of the fear that you hold.
Don't throw your pearls to the swine tonight,
Don't let them take your innocence,
Just remember the times that I held your hand and kept you close,
Remember the times I held you up and now.
She cries...
Can't you see, I won't leave,
But you have to open your eyes.
Here I stand, Take my hand,
Let go of the fear that you hold.

Very Pretty song... gets me every time :)

"You are my Sunshine"
-As performed by Johnny Cash.

"The other night dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you, In my arms.
When I awoke dear, I was mistaken, so I bowed my head, and I cried.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies are gray, you'll never know dear, how much you, please dont take, my sunshine away.

Ive always loved you, and made you happy, and nothing else could come between.
But now you've left me, to love another, you have shattered all of my dreams.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies are gray, you'll never know dear, how much you, please dont take, my sunshine away."

"Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum, or "Mighty K.C." by For Squirrels.

"Mighty K.C."

She lies in a bedpan with her name scrawled on her back
It sure sounds funny when you say his name like that
He lies in an empty morgue with his hair burned to the back
It sure sounds funny when you say his name like that

Ship me off to the morgue I'm ready to be buried alone way down in my bed,
And I'm alone without the sun
Ship me off to the morgue I'm ready to be buried alone way down in my bed,
And I'm alone without the Son
Please just take one

And by the grace of God Go I into the great unknown,
Things are gonna change in our favor
And if we gather, if we fall into the great unknown,
Things are gonna change in our favor.

One hundred, two hundred, three hundred, four hundred, five hundred, six hundred oh they're found dead
And I am numb from watching TV
One hundred, two hundred, three hundred, four hundred, five hundred, six hundred oh they're just there
And I am numb from watching TV
Please don't break me

AND

Something I can Never Have by Nine Inch Nails

I still recall the taste of your tears.
Echoing your voice just like the ringing in my ears
My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore.
Scraping through my head 'till I don't wanna sleep anymore.

You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I just want something
I just want something I can never have

You always were the one to show me how
Back then I couldn't do the things that I can do now.
This is slowly take me apart.
Grey would be the color if I had a heart.

You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I just want something
I just want something I can never have

In this place it seems like such a shame.
Though it all looks different now,
I know it's still the same
Everywhere I look you're all I see.
Just a fading fucking reminder of who I used to be.
Come on tell me.

You make this all go away
You make this all go away
I'm down to just one thing, and I'm starting to scare myself
You make this all go away
You make it all go away
I just want something,
I just want something I can never have
I just want something I can never have

Simonist']Does classical music not have that effect on you? There have been many times in my life that classical music, or even non-lyrical music, has made me cry -- Moonlight Sonata sometimes does (no real reason), any Vivaldi piccolo concerto (because they're so hard to learn, I freakin' hate Vivaldi), the 'Gandalf' movement from Johan de Meij's Lord of the Rings Symphony, Frank Ticheli's arrangement of Loch Lomond and Shenandoah, and Ray Lynch's Too Wounded (among others).....

Heh....just realized how much of a music geek I'm coming off as today.....

Oh God Moonlight Sonata. That song kills me everytime. Gotta be the most moving song I've ever heard in my life.

Emotionless

Hey Dad I'm writing to you
Not to tell you, that I still hate you
Just to ask you how you feel
And how we fell apart how this fell apart

Are you happy out there in this great wide world?
Do you think about your sons?
Do you miss your little girl?
When you lay your head down how do you sleep at night?
Do you even wonder if we're all right?

We're alright
We're alright

It's been a long hard road without you by my side
Why weren't you there all the nights that we cried?
You broke my mother's heart, you broke your children for life
It's not OK but we're alright
I will remember the days you were a hero in my eyes
But those were just a long lost memory of mine
I spent so many years learning how to survive
Now I'm writing just to let you know that I'm still alive

The days I spent so cold, so hungry, were full of hate
I was so angry, the scars run deep inside this tattooed body
There's things I'll take to my grave, but I'm OK, I'm OK

It's been a long hard road without you by my side
Why weren't you there all the nights that we cried?
You broke my mother's heart, you broke your children for life
It's not OK but we're alright
I remember the days you were a hero in my eyes
But those were just a long lost memory of mine
Now I'm writing just to let you know that I'm still alive
I'm still alive
Sometimes I forgive, yeah and this time I'll admit
That I miss you, said I miss you

It's been a long hard road without you by my side
Why weren't you there all the nights that we cried?
You broke my mother's heart, you broke your children for life
It's not OK but we're alright
I remember the days you were a hero in my eyes
But those were just a long lost memory of mine
Now I'm writing just to let you know that I'm still alive

And sometimes I forgive, yeah and this time I'll admit
That I miss you, I miss you...hey Dad

Mother Love by Queen

I don't want to sleep with you
I don't need the passion too
I don't want a stormy affair
To make me feel my life is heading somewhere
All I want is the comfort and care
Just to know that my woman gives me sweet -
Mother love

I've walked too long in this lonely lane
I've had enough of this same old game
I'm a man of the world and they say I'm strong
But my heart is heavy and my hope is gone

Out in the city, in the cold world outside
I don't want pity, just safe place to hide
Mama please, let me back inside

I don't want to make no waves
But you can give me all the love that I crave
I can't take if you see me cry
I long for peace before I die
All I want to know that you're there
You're gonna give me all your sweet -
Mother love

My body's aching, but I can't sleep
My dreams are all the company I keep
Got such a feeling as the sun goes down
I'm coming home to my sweet -
Mother love

I always thought that Freddie had a real knack for sad imagery:
"they say I'm strong But my heart is heavy and my hope is gone" from this one,

"Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on. "
From "The Show must go on",

or

Cos these are the days of our lives
They've flown in the swiftness of time
These days are all gone now but some things remain
When I look and I find - no change
"These are the days of our lives" (Obviously!)

What's wrong with the world mama?
People living like aint got no mamas
I think the whole worlds addicted to the drama
Only attracted to the things that bring you trauma
Overseas yeah we tryin to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin
In the USA the big CIA the Bloodz and the Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And if you hatin you're bound to get irate
Yeah madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
You gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love y'all

People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father Father Father help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?(where is the lovex3)(the love2x)

It just ain't the same all ways have changed
New days are strange is the world the insane?
If love and peace so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations dropping bombs
Chemical gases filling lungs of little ones
With ongoing suffering
As the youth die young
So ask yourself is the loving really strong?
So I can ask myself really what is going wrong
With this world that we living in
People keep on giving in
Makin wrong decisions
Only visions of them livin and
Not respecting each other
Deny thy brother
The wars' going on but the reasons' undercover
The truth is kept secret
Swept under the rug
If you never know truth
Then you never know love
Where's the love y'all?(I don't know)
Where's the truth y'all?(I don't know)
Where's the love y'all?

People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father father father help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?(where is the lovex3)(the lovex2)

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm getting older y'all people get colder
Most of us only care about money makin
Selfishness got us followin the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting their young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what the see in the cinema
Whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness and equality
Instead of spreading love, we're spreading anomosity
Lack of understanding, leading us away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feeling under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feeling down
It's no wonder why sometimes I'm feeling under
I gotta keep my faith alive, until love is found

People killing people dying
Children hurtin you hear them crying
Can you practice what you preach
Would you turn the other cheek?
Father Father Father help us
Send some guidance from above
Cause people got me got me questioning
Where is the love?(fade)

No-one But You by QueenThat, and, Those Were the Days of our Lives, Who Wants to Live Forever, Mother Love and The Show Must Go On all by the same band. Of course, all but one of those was written/recorded around the time of Freddie's death, and the one that isn't (WWTLF) was just a powerful song sung inimitably powerfully by Freddie. So the fact that these songs bring tears to my eyes says more about my affection for Queen rather than my response to emotional lyrics per se.

I don't recall having been moved to tears by any other band or artist, even though there are plenty of others that I like.

:) I cry every time I hear the Black Eyed Peas too - it doesn't matter which song.

Songs don't get me crying but I do enjoy a good sad song. You See Me Crying - an old school Aerosmith song is a great one I am listening to now. Movies seem to do a better job of bringing out the tears. I was just crying at the end of Man on Fire yesterday and it is probably the 5th time I've seen it.

A few of the songs that hit me at a very deep level, in no particular order ( these midis suck, but will give you the general idea ):

* Amazing Grace (http://www.cgmusic.com/cghymnal/others/amazinggrace.htm), particularly when played on bagpipes; sends shivers up my spine! I want it played at my funeral.

* Battle Hymn of the Republic (http://www.pabucktail.com/Music/Battle%20Hymn%20Sousa.mp3). One of the greatest songs ever written, IMHO. Hits an old soldier like a ton of bricks!

* Watching the River Run (http://www.geocities.com/fhornsr/watchingtheriverrun.mid). It's all about those you love.

I just realized that there are so many it would take me hours to just compile them. I also realized that all of them are about family, or country or God. Strange that my right brain seems to totally disregard all my reason and logic and go straight for my jugular.

Under the Bridge by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Its the song that was played at my friend's funeral when I was 8 (he was like a much older brother to me). First person close to me ever to die.

Last Kiss by Pearl Jam. I can't actually bring myself to listen to this song very often.

And Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits. That just kills me.

Amazing Grace was played on bagpipes at my grandmother's funeral and I thought it was beautiful - she would have loved it as she was a lovely Scottish woman. I do get sad hearing it.

I just thought of another one. The Cat's in the Cradle by Cat Stevens. They used that song (can't remember if it was Stevens' version) in an advertising campaign against sectarianism during the Troubles here. It showed a paramilitary bloke spending all his time shooting people instead of spending time with his young son, and eventually shooting someone in front of said son. The son in the ad, IIRC, grew up to be a terrorist just like his da, in the same way the boy in the song grows up like his father. The lyrics to the song combined with the graphic images really hit the right note.

Angie, by the Rolling Stones and If You See Her Say Hello by Bob Dylan have that effect on me, most likely because both of them were ones that I first heard when going through rough times with my girlfriend (now ex, but still a very good friend), and parts of the songs reminded me of the current situation.

Those are the only two that made me cry, but one that always depresses me is I Got Id, by Pearl Jam. Reminds me a lot of myself. Pearl Jam songs always seem to strike some kind of emotional chord with me

There is that within us which hungers for acceptance, forgiveness and love. I find it fascinating that most of the songs and melodies listed in this thread seem to tap into those needs. This coming Tuesday, I go to see my lawyer about a will, a medical power of attorney, and setting up a trust fund for my children and grandchildren. I plan on having the arrangements for my funeral spelled out in my will, one of which is to have Amazing Grace and Battle Hymn of the Republic played. Strangely, I find that somehow comforting.

Amazing Grace always makes me cry also. I remember they played it at my grandmother's funeral and there wasn't a dry eye in the entire room.

The other song that always makes me cry is Kelly Clarkson's Because of You. The lyrics of that song make me think of how I was raised, and how my mother resents me for being gay, and how I was asked to leave my church after they found out about me being gay.

There are different parts of that song that describe my life, but the part that always hits the hardest is at the end of the song:
"Because of you I'm ashamed of my life, because it's empty...because of you I am afraid...because of you..."

World So Cold by mudvayne, this is part of the song

"When passion's lost and all the trust is gone,
Way too far, for way too long
Children crying, cast out and neglected,
Only in a world so cold, only in a world
This cold
Hold the hand of your best friend, look into their eyes
Then watch them drift away
Some might say, we've done the wrong things,
For way too long, for way too long"

I think the saddest part is "Hold the hand, of your best friend, look into their eyes, and watch them drift away.."
Doesnt actully make me cry, just sad

My favourite song, until the day i die - story of the year (kind of me and my girlfriends song) i cry when i listen to it, but i also love it.

Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart for you, for you
Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart for you

As years go by
I race the clock with you
But if you died right now
You know that I'd die to
I'd die too

You remind me of the times
When I knew who I was (When I knew who I was)
But still the second hand will catch us
Like it always does.

Well make the same mistakes
I'll Take the fall for you
I hope you need this now
cuz I know I still do.

Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you
Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you

Should I bite my tongue
Until blood soaks my shirt?
We'll never fall apart
so Tell me why this hurts so much

My hands are at your throat
And I think I hate you
But still we'll say, "remember when"
Just like we always do, just like we always do

Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you
Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you
Yeah I'd spill my heart!!!!!!
Yeah I'd spill my heart, for you!!!!!!!

My hands are at your throat
And I think I hate you
We made the same mistakes
mistakes like friends do,
my hands are at your throat
and I think I hate you
we made the same mistakes.

Until the day I die
I'll spill my heart for you, for you

Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you, for you
Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
I'll spill my heart for you

Until the day I die (Until the day I die)
Until the day I die!!!!!!

I just thought of another one. The Cat's in the Cradle by Cat Stevens.

Cat Stevens didn't do "Cat's in the Cradle". It was written and performed by the late Harry Chapin.

There are no songs that make me cry every time I listen to them, but if I'm in the right mood/immersed in the music enough, these will bring a tear to my eye:

Eclipse - Pink Floyd (after listening to the rest of Dark Side of the Moon)
Eternal Glory - Rhapsody
A Question of Heaven - Iced Earth

And these songs make feel similarly, but I haven't actually cried to them (yet):

III Ways to Epica - Kamelot
Eyes of a Stranger - Queensryche (with or without My Empty Room before it)
Space Dye Vest - Dream Theater

Johnny Cash's Hurt and Amazing Grace can make me start crying just by thinking about them. I'm not usually an easy cryer, but those can just make me sob.
