Image Resizing Programs

Hello all.

I'm looking for a simple image resizing program so that I can create my own flag. I have lots of images but no way of scaling them down to the flag requirements. I say 'simple' because I don't want to download a 300 megabyte trial of Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

Thanks in advance,

If you are in Windows then Paint is just fine. (menu Image>Stretch/Skew) Use the same procent for Horizontal and Vertical. (save as jpg)

Start > Programs > Accesssories > Paint

weell, you could just use whatever program your computer came with (if you have windows, it should have come with paint) to just simply spend time re-creating youre flag (but if time is money for you, I can't help you out there) also, on paint, you can copy the image onto it (assuming you already have the image made) and shrink it, then edit it, which would take less time but look not as good. But, especially if you're new at paint, it takes time. I think you should be able to shrink images on something like microsoft word, but it isn'tgood at aditing it. (although you shouldn't go out and buy it if you don't already have it, as it isn't all that great) any imaging program should work fine though.

A better way(Paint isn't advanced enough to make a smooth resizing) is to open the file in the image viewer in Windows. I assume you can just right-click the file in question and choose "open with --> Image Viewer." Then you can change the size to whatever size you want by changing the size of the Image Viewer window itself. When you have the right size, press the Print Screen Button(on your keyboard) and paste the screenshot into paint.

Or just download a small, proper, image viewer/manipulator, like http://www.irfanview.com/ (it's under 1 MB)

Even better yet get paint.net that replaces the lousy paint program in windows and eliminates the need for ever having to use a trial version of photoshop for most anything.

It's free too! http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/

WindowsXP has a nice, simple mechanism for resizing pictures. I looked in my picture file and there it was. I have two flags that I resized to fit the parameters. If you want to take a look at them, they're in The Dread Cat and The Lord of Misrule. I know it's easy, because I'm a computer semi-literate and I had no problem with it.

Too many options just clutters up the interface if you're never going to use them anyway. Depends on what you need, really. You could also go a step further and get GIMP (which I think can do a more than paint.net, and would be a better substitute for photoshop, if you need the extra tools).

Actually for most people I figured the interface for paint.net to be perfect because of the fact that is hardly clutters the interface, yet still has a lot of very powerful features.
I use photoshop, psp and deep paint myself. I've tried GIMP several times but seem to always fall back on what I have already learned before giving it a completely fair chance, but as I recall, doesn't GIMP have an interface something similar to deep paint or PSP?

Paint .NET (http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/) is a good free program that does some of the stuff that Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro does. Even more comprehensive is GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) which is also free but is frustratingly hard to use at times.
