Did anyone watch The Heist on E4 last night? Under the guise of a motivational seminar he trick a bunch of middle managers into commiting armed robbery using his crazy mind control techniques.. why does he waste time on TV? Why isn't he running for Prime Minister or trying to take over the world.. why doesn't he have several girls on each arm and another dozen back at his flat? What dya think?

I think it's because he has this thing called a 'conscience'. Although if I could do what he does, I'd sure as hell take over the world.

Also because only certain types of people are affected by his techniques, which is why he only used 4 of the 10 or so people that attended his 'seminar'.

The guys a genious. I do wonder how he was able to re create the Milgram experiment and do stuff like the Zombie shoot'em up when that clearly goes against the code of ethics psychologists have to use.

"More influenced". I think he could influence everyone in some way, but just remember he made people hold a guy at gun point and steal from the bank of England so only a few could be affected that much. Still impressive.

He was able to recreate the milgrim experiment because only one of the people had actually heard of it. I did like the guy who asked why the experiment had to stop when he'd reached 500 volts though. 500 volts is lethal and he wanted to give more..

Well I did psychology at AS level (just for 1 year) and it was specifically said by my teacher a psychologist wouldn't be able to re create this today, as there are much stricter ethical boundries for psychologists doing a test. (eg. Right to withdraw, no allowed to put people in traumatic experiances).

I'm not sure but I don't think Derren Brown has any qualifications in psychology.. I know he studied law so I guess he isn't bound to the same boundries if he was a psychologist, besides, the participants seemed perfectly fine with continuing even after the person they were supposed to be shoking was apparently unconcious and unable to answer the questions..

Nowadays, under the code of ethics, pyschologists have to tell the subjects the reason behind the tests. They're not allowed to trick a person into doing something they wouldn't normally do, nor put them under stress or duress.
Knowing the purpose of the Milgram experiment before you started would totally ruin the result. No-one would agree to press the volt button.
As for Derren Brown, I guess he wasn't conducting it as a psych study, so wasn't bound by the psych association code of ethics. Also he can only show film once the participants have ok'ed it. So we only see the film that the people want us to see.
