Movies that make you cry

This is especially for guys, but girls can answer too. What movies have made you cry?

Field of Dreams This movie chokes me up at the end when Ray says "Dad, you wanna have a catch?" It is one of the few movies where most women won't cry, but most guys will. I guess only men can understand the father-son relationship.

Brian's Song (1971 version) This movie always makes me cry. It is such a sad story about how Chicago Bears RB Brian Picollo succombed to cancer at age 26 leaving behind 3 young daughters. His friendship with Gale Sayers is heart touching. It is the true story about 2 men of opposite races who become best friends during the turbulent 1960s. Picollo was a man who always put himself last and would do anything for anyone.

Gandhi - insanely powerful

Band Of Brothers - not a movie but its like 10 hours long in total and different episodes make me blub

there are probably more, but mostly its songs that get me leaking more than movies

edit: additions:
The Last Samurai (the end bit)
Braveheart (again, the end)
Titanic (the end again... hmm i see a pattern here)
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (mild blubbing mixed with anger)

Ladder 49: I just got done watching it and I was choking up, something I haven't done in a long time.

Braveheart: Self explanatory if you've seen the ending.

I'd agree with Braveheart. Which funnily enough was on last night.

Gandhi - makes my blood boil. I despise the man. But thats another matter.

Zulu - I honestly dont know why. It just does.

The Last of the Mohicans - only happened once, but the bit where Uncas gets killed, and then the Munro girl throws herself off the cliff, followed by Uncas' father exacting revenge upon Magua is very good.

The Godfather, Part One - Both book and film had this effect on me. When Don Corleone dies amongst the tomatoes. The book had more of an effect, simply due to his last words.

It's a Wonderful Life with James Stewart- every time!

It's actually developed into a strange sort of Pavlovian reaction now!

Also Life is Beautiful - This is an italian film with subtitles, and also one of the best films I've ever seen.
Very funny and very sad too.

Not so much cry but become emotionally drained...
Elephant Man-I refer to it as the best movie I'll never watch again.

Well, I am a girl, but I'm gonna answer anyway.

Steel Magnolias. It's so sad when Shelby dies.

Once Were Warriors - when Beth is telling the story about how she left her family, and she says, "See Gracey, I told you I could keep a promise".

Australian Rules. But interestingly enough, not when Dumby Red gets shot, but when Blackie gets to the funeral. Its so sad.

The others are too embarrassing. *cough* Titanic *cough*

The first movie I ever cried while watching (not counting the time I dropped a big, heavy box on my toes) was the Lion King. Not so much any more...

I can't really say any specific movies, 'cause quite frankly I'm in such a low spot I seem to me more or less crying all the time. Very disturbing...

I'll cry at anything halfway emotional in a movie, really. Maybe not always "cry", but always "tear up". In real life I'm all sensible and stuff, but with movies? Not so much.

Oh, and word on this:The Last of the Mohicans - only happened once, but the bit where Uncas gets killed, and then the Munro girl throws herself off the cliff Isn't that one of the coolest scenes in movie history, though? Tear material, sure, but cool.

Yeah, there's a few out there, just not things that I guess people normally would consider to be sad:

Edward Scissorhands
This movie always gets me because the character that Depp plays is very creative, talented, gentle and caring, but in the end, everyone's additude is like "nope, sorry, you're just a monster. Go away."

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The part that gets me here is when the Ents attack Isengard. It's just that they are confronted with something that is so evil that they must sacrifice the very core of their beliefs, noninterference and nonviolence, in order to deal with it. In the end, it doesn't matter that they have won. The wound to their own psyches will never heal.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Theoden's "Death" speech before the battle of Minas Tirith. Not that he was ever known for beating around the bush, but he spelled it out anyway: there's nothing left but to kill and die. The fact that everyone is shouting "Death!' does it make it any better. It's an acknowledgement that it is the only thing left in their life and they are going to embrace it.

okay I cry entirely too much at movies, so here is my very short list of movies that make me cry every single time.

Lion King- when the dad dies

Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan - I cry when Spock dies :(

Fried Green Tomatoes- I cry when you think the old lady dies (even though I know she doesn't)

my new one.......

The sisterhood of the traveling pants- I cried throughout this whole movie. This is my new "I need a good cry" movie. ;)

It's just the one part there that gets me. Any of the LOTR movies are so long that it's possible to run through the entire gamut of emotions when watching them.

Now that I think about it, Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring when Gandalf falls into the chasm. The person I feel the saddest for is Aragorn, because his understanding of their peril means that they don't even have the time for grief.

It was on tv about a month ago wasn't it... strange film, but yes, the sudden ending is pretty moving. But I didn't cry either, i'm not so good at crying. I cried on my wedding day, I cried when my kids were born.. but that's about it from memory.

Okay, now don't nobody laugh at me, but...

Lilo and Stitch.

The part where Stitch takes the book about the ugly duckling and goes into the woods all by himself, and he sits there and calls out "Lost!" in the hopes that a family will come and find him.

Brave heart. It makes me cry in laughter at the irony of an Australian coming over to shit all over historical accuracy in an attempt to stir up anti-english hatred, when if he wanted to make a movie about a country opressing a minority he could quite easily have stayed a home and starred as an Aboriginal freedom fighter.

Posting on behalf of my girlfriend, who cries at pretty much any chick flick:

Moulin Rouge
*some disney film about a bunch of horses*
Pride and Prejudice (the bit where he says "I did it all for you")

There are more but I wont embarass her further. And, if we are talking about films that are so bad they made you cry, The Legend of Zorro comes top. When the priest got shot, i said to my gf (this was pretty much the only period of the film where i was awake - no really!) "If he gets saved by his cross or something I am going to be pissed..."

And, lo, his cross saved him from the bullet, and he makes a pivotal move to save Zorro later in the film, revealing his cross with bullet sticking in it. ARRRRGH!

hmm i don't remember ever crying at that movie... but then i did always hate the little ET alien freak... so that probably explains why.

now, Flight Of The Navigator, when the ship has to leave... that's sad :(
oh and while we're on sci-fi, this one little bit in Batteries Not Included where one of the tiny little robot thingys (haven't seen it in ages) is working at rebuilding something on the roof by itself, and it looks so sad and hurt... as a kid that made me blub more than ET ever did

you are sooo right about being emotionally draining to watch..wow..that movie is just plain rough to watch.

another that pops in mind is "as good as it gets" with jack nicholson,i always start tearing up when he insults helen hunt at the restaraunt, when he good heartedly helps her kid, when the gay neighbor is beaten stupid, the end where he realises he is in love..lots of scenes in that movie get me.
