One of my teachers suggest another one of his many progressive ideas to us. He said if he were prinicpal, he would have school open on Monday, but have the day devoted to learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and his effect on today. But then, as usual, he syas that this is why he isn't principal: his idea are "too progressive and dynamic". Anyone agree with him? I do. And also do it with George Washinton and Abraham Lincoln in February.

Well, the government has decided that on MLK day we should let freedom ring instead of our alarm clocks.

So basically we use one day a year to cover the progress of MLK and the civil rights movement? Do we do MLK math, MLK grammar, MLK home economics, etc.
Then we can do this with the Presidents, but wait maybe he means that you fill an auditorium and only the teachers that are supposed to be teaching this do a presentation and the others get the day off.
Nah, let's keep it like it is.

i think there should be school on mlk day and on presidents day. and yes, i think the days should be somewhat devoted to those who are being honored.

I disagree.
I think that he should teach about MLK on Friday before and again on Tuesday afterwards if he wants, but how could you go to the MLK memorial services and all if you were in school on Monday?
Secondary issue would be the joke value. Look at all the fun they make of Black History Month, what do you think they would say, and they might be right, if an entire day was devoted to a single person (no matter who that person is/was) for one entire day every year?
No, your teacher can teach about MLK all he wants, no reason to deny the students the ability to go to MLK day celebrations, even if most of them don't.
Anyone agree with him?
Er agree with him about the having school open idea, or about the reason why he is not principal?
I dont feel qualified to answer the latter, I neither agree nor disagree.
As for the MLK day, does your teacher have a reason for wishing to impliment the idea? If so, what is that reason?

You don't have to learn about Martin Luther King Jr. on MLK Day. That's the wonderful thing about knowledge; It's rarely date sensitive. :)
