Those of you who have read the Leon Uris novel "Exodus" or have seen the movie of the same name are familiar with the character Ari Ben Canaan.

It is believed that Ari along with other characters in the book are based on real people? Who do you think each character's real life equivilant is?

Ari: I say he could be Moshe Dayan. Both become Generals in the IDF and are a part of Haganah. Ari and Dayan both were wounded fighting Viche France forces in Syria during WWII (that's how Moshe Dayan lost his eye.) I have seen some people say that Ari is Yitzach Rabin. I can see that one too as there are similarities there.

Barak Ben Canaan: In the book he is Ari's father, but I can say with little doubt this character is based on David Ben Gurion, Israel's 1st PM.

Akiva: In the book he is Ari's uncle and the leader of the Maccabee's (the fictional version of the real life Irgun). I would say this one is also obvious as Begin was a leader of the Irgun.

Who else is represented in the book in your opinion?

I forgot another interesting character:

Dov Landau: He actually was a real person. I don't know if he is still alive, but I do know he was alive as late as 1993 when he gave an interview. IIRC, he became a college professor.
