Absolutely, I do, whenever possible. I find most shoes to be really uncomfortable, because they force me to walk by putting my heel down first, whereas I naturally put the ball of my foot down first when I walk barefoot. Wearing shoes too frequently and for too long really screws my ankles up.

Aside from that, it just feels nicer to not have my feet fully enclosed in cramped, smelly little bags.

I'd tend to agree. Unfortunately, for me, I live in Maryland where it gets awfully cold from time to time- fortunately not now, but in winter, it gets down around below 30 degrees Fahrenheit (that's below zero for you Celsius people), and awfully cold- but otherwise, during summer, shoes go bye-bye. :D

Ahh, it doesn't get that cold down here where I live. Only very rarely do we get sub-zero temperatures (and then only in the dead of night) or snow, though walking barefoot through all the puddles can be pretty bad. It's rained like a bitch here, recently, and it's the middle of bloody summer!

Lucky...then again you do live in Australia, though. Then again, reminds me of one time when I was at an amusement park- my shoes got soaked with water, and it was uncomfortable as hell walking around- so I took them off and essentially walked around barefoot as much as I could. Fairly comfortable I discovered, until this giant thunderstorm came and rained like hell- you're right, walking through puddles is annoying.

with shoes on my feet get sweaty... and then they get stinky... its genetic you know.

anyways i do without shoes inside all the time, but i always wear socks cos otherwise i just get cold. outside, i very rarely do without shoes cos there's all sorts of crap and sharp things on the ground. sometimes its nice to walk down the hot, sun-drenched tarmac of the street in barefeet, but thats rare

I used to go around barefoot all the time, but then one evening, one stormy tornado-y evening, as I was running through the house to the basement, I apparently had not noticed the broken glass on the floor (window broke, probably from pressure changes) and ended up with several shards embedded in my feet. The worst of them, in my opinion, was the one that mysteriously went STRAIGHT up into my heel, and was forced all the way in at the next footfall, which was over an inch long.

Lucky I didn't do any permanent damage, but that pretty much incapacitated my ability to go around barefoot without significant anxiety. And I figured....it's really not worth going to therapy over

If you walk around barefoot enough, those sharp things will just bounce off your sole! Stepping on gum with bare feet is pretty unpleasant, though.

I love going barefoot. I wear shoes to school and stuff, but sometimes even there I take them off. I can walk on sharp rocks and stuff like that because I do it so often I've toughened up, but glass I still avoid. I live on Long Island, NY, and the climate is pretty temperate, but it gets down in the twenties sometimes. In that case, I'm usually not outside at all. But in the nice weather there's nothing better than barefeet. It's actually not so bad stepping in puddles because your skin dries off faster than shoes and socks.

Walking barefoot is great. If there was less broken glass and detritus on the streets, I'd never wear shoes. My soles used to be quite tough, but they've softened up after so many establishments forced me to wear shes and delinquents started deliberately stepping on my toes.

Heh heh, what a rep to have! Seriously though, a chisel or a paint scraper will get most of it off, then a little steel wool will handle the rest.

Well, then, you need to go to a hippie college like mine. There are some people who almost never wear shoes, and will only submit to sandals when it gets below freezing. Seriously, people walk across campus in their barefeet all the time.

If there wasn't so much beer glass laying around, and a brick walkway which sharp edges connecting the two halves of campus, I'd probably do it too. That being said, though, I'm barefoot as much as I can be.

And when I can't be, I have this amazing pair of shoes that are even more comfortable than walking barefoot. I'll probably wear through them soon, sadly... I've been wearing them for over six years.

My feet never have socks on them unless I have to put shoes on. In the summer I like to be able to go outside barefoot and play in the grass... when I go to the beech I'm barefoot. Pavement sucks on barefeet though, especially in cities with a high population of youth who don't know enough to deposit their damn beer bottles and instead smash them everywhere.

Also, if I go out wearing heels and end up playing pool (billiards) I have to take my shoes off, it screws up the angles so much.

I think socks are the most useless item of clothing (oh, wait, after ties.) What purpose do socks serve, anyway? Unless you get big woolly socks, they don't keep your feet very warm. However, it's usually freezing cold where I live, so I'm forced to wear socks outside.

Only at home. Apart from anything else, it helps me determine when the floor needs cleaning :D. It's not quite so much of a fetish, as it seems to be with some of you...

Always wear shoes when I go out though. You'd have to be extremely weird not to given the sorts of things you encounter on the floor while you're out and about. Though, I suppose that these forums are the home of weird. I have three main pairs of shoes; there are my formal work shoes, some fairly casual and slightly scruffy Wranglers for every-day stuff, and the trainers/sneakers/whatever I wear to the gym -- old, falling to pieces, and eminently comfy.

I pretty much avoid shoes whenever I can. I live in that area between Baltimore and the next city north of it, so I go barefoot pretty much unless it's freezing outside. My feet are tough enough to walk on stones and things partly because of my karate training, and I just try to avoid glass, because it can get up into my toes/arches, even if the main walking-on parts of my feet are tough enough to get by. I used to go barefoot even more than I do now, though.

At my college graduation, my shoes were annoying me, so I (as usual) just took them off and graduated barefoot. Only a few of my professors noticed, and they though it oddly appropriate, seeing as I went to most of their classes barefoot, even in the snow, sometimes.

Yes/Oui/Si/Da/Ja!

But I got flat feet, so I need to wear shoes when not at home, where I pretty much tear off my shoes and socks to go around with my feet in the buff! It feels better, smells better (well, after a little bit), and it forces be to remember to also clip my toe-nails, which usually are forgotten, because they're in a shoe or sock.

But going around without shoes in town? No, no, no, no, no! Icky, icky!

No, not really.

If air pressure broke windows, all windows at sea level would be broken. The only windows would exists on high ground or in low orbit, where the air pressure isn't so high. Its energy that breaks windows, which is wind. Your hand doesn't break a window, its the energy behind it.

I love to go barefoot! I avoid wearing shoes whenever possible, but since I'm in frigid Michigan that basically means I'm stuck wearing them outside for about 6 months out of the year. As for (regular) socks, I never wear 'em. I don't even own a pair. They make my feet uncomfortable, especially if I'm stuck wearing shoes. I do wear some "slipper socks" in the winter, but those aren't meant for wearing inside of shoes.

Like other barefoot-lovers, the soles of my feet are tough. Years ago I stepped on some glass (from an old broken window, not bottle glass). It made a 1/2-inch deep slice but it didn't even bleed since it was just callous that got sliced! That didn't scare me off of going barefoot, but now I make a point to check my feet a lot just to make sure everything's okay down there.

The one time I seriously hurt my foot by stepping on something, I was wearing my shoes! I stepped on an angle-cut sapling stump that was hidden in the grass. So much for shoe soles being tougher! It killed for weeks...

Glass is also a liquid.
It is a pressure gradient that breaks windows (in some cases). Currently there is several tons of air squashing me, but it's cool, because my internal stuff is at the same pressure. Equal and opposite forces, ka? An air filled glass bottle would crack in LEO because of the inequality in forces between the air pushing outwards, and no air not pushing in. Technically, a tornado could cause windows to break, if the difference in pressure between the inside of the house and the air outside was sufficient. In this case the pressure gradient would be from the inside outwards, as the air outside would be sucked away, while the inside air would not be able to leave, breaking the windows. This would cause windows to blow outwards. So in our case, it was probably the wind.

Oh, and glass is a solid. The liquid thing is a myth. If it exhibits anything, it is Solid State Creep. Sorry:p

They can skip over a rocky driveway like its nothing. Myself and my oldest neice always wore shoes and we've both broken at least one bone in our feet. We have skinny toes and wimpy feet, while the rest have these thick strong feet and toes.
