Taking a leaf out of Bush Snr.'s book, discuss the following motion:

"The Simpsons should be role models for today's society."

Could we just pick any character on the show to model our lives after, or would we have to be like the Simpsons themselves?

Ah, any character I suppose. Plus, can a mod please lock or delete the other thread? I clicked "create new thread" twice by accident.

If you're going to be Homer you also need to wedge a crayon into your brain through your nose.

I've read some review of The Simpsons (by some Christian organisation - I stumbled upon it by accident) that said that despite all of the family's unethical behaviour, they had good family values and did the right thing in difficult situations. I'd like to know what you think.

well the simpsons do have good family values, strong two parent household with healthy kids and a good life for them, even if homer is mad, he still spends time trying to have fun with bart, and occasionally lisa, he also endures endless amounts of crap to keep that little **tch happy... I HATE LISA!! and well marge does everything a wife could do, cleans, cooks does everything that needs thinking about. so yes i think the simpsons are a pretty good family to model a family about.

The Simpsons'...

Blunders
They steal items from their neighbour, Ned Flanders
They sleep through Church (but who can blame them?)
Bart and Homer are shirkers
They have been on the run from the police
They gamble and drink
Homer strangles Bart almost every episode

Wonders
They are "good Christians" (turning up to Church every Sunday, with one exception)
They have helped out many other characters in difficulties (not always to the other characters' joy)
Homer and Marge attempt to keep good relationships with their children
Both parents have always been faithful despite temptation
Marge has served the community as both a teacher and police officer

Can you think of any more?

Perhaps we should all revert to living like hippies as Homer did...and we should also make sure we put the "special" vegetables in to our herbal drinks.

Hmmm....don't forget that Homer's also guilty of bigamy, with that whole Vegas incident. And he's definitely got sloth working against him as a deadly sin.

I'd much prefer the Griffin family as positive role models, y'know?

Don't forget gluttony! But you can't blame him for bigamy - he was incredibly drunk. ;)
