Some one must have angered Chuck Norris and he delivered a roundhouse kick to them through the forum, but the forum was not equipped to handle such awesome power, so it died.

Somehow I doubt that an author would spend what little money he makes on a failed book ad that grew into the biggest headache in the history of the world, which DOESN'T make him any money.

a failed book ad.

Nationstates.net floats between the 18,000th and 22,000th most visited website on the internet. I bought Nationstates and Syrup because of this. So did many others. I will be buying Company. Max's publisher begged him to create a website for Company. It's hardly a failure.

The name of the book is Jennifer Government. And I read it before I even heard of the website. It was listed as one of the "worst books of the year" by the Libertarian Party because of it's negative take on a totally free market, so I just HAD to read it. I found it funny, and think it drew a visible like between a libertarian market, and a corporate anarchy. Then I bought Syrup (which was better), and plan to buy Company. I consider the game a failure because JG and Syrup have never been on any top seller lists that I have ever seen. And, running this game and the forum (for free) must have been nothing but a nightmare.

I'm starting to get annoyed with Jolt though. They had this "update", and the quote-buttons still don't load since then. Some people can't seem to use the thread tools, there are these ghosts around without post-count and when I click on a poster's name, nothing happens.

Then you constantly get these huge waits as pages take ages to load, sometimes not loading at all, you risk losing your post or double-posting.

Then you keep getting "database problems" that never get fixed, and times like yesterday when the whole thing just doesn't work period.

Surely if Jolt can't get its act together we need to move somewhere else?

i at least like the colour scheme here :)

jolt has been fairly reliable (ok not really, but considering the size of us i think its fair) since the move. i never posted on the old forums, but i understand jolt is better - these last couple of days, perhaps not, but they have done a gonerally good job for many months.
what i'd really like though is some acknowledgement of these problems from jolt and an assurance that they're doing something about it - something on their website or an announcement on the forums... anything. for all we know they might not even realise there's a problem and things could just keep getting worse :headbang:

i used to post a lot on the old iron maiden forums until one weekend the servers totally crashed and the backups were lost, and, basically, it was irreparable: we all lost our profiles, our postcounts, old threads... everything. it took a couple of weeks to get at least some forums back up in place, by which time many, many regulars didn't bother returning. including myself :(
apart from anything else the cool red-and-grey colour scheme i seem to remember them having was replaced by standard shitty PHPbb blue skin, and it just didn't feel like the same forum anymore.
thats what i fear happening here

That doesn't mean they're doing anything about it. These e-mails could just sit in someones inbox and never get read.
Does anyone know off another forum with a similar amount of traffic to ours? And if they have any problems?

Hah! If a email was sent every time, they'd get a couple of thousand after every crash. The crashes take out all of the forums on jolt, not just nationstates.

If you do a "View Source" on that error page, you'll notice an absence of anything actually sending an email. They have started to include a live link to a mailbox, but if it were on my personal server, I'd have ignored that mass-spam mailbox since day 2.

Jolt isn't some monolithic organization with a 24 hour service desk. Near as I can tell, it's a lot like NS: a handful of people who work a 40 hour week and go home on the weekends. I was actually pleasantly surprised to see them log in on a Sunday morning to resolve whatever issue broke this time.
