Depends on the music.

Can anyone dispute that the music of Pink Floyd isnt enhanced even further by a few kinds of drugs?

Anyone know how weed worked its way into city life?
Them pesky jazz musicians.

I can tell you this:

Some of my favorite music was written and peformed, under the influence of drugs.
In fact, some bands like The Beatles, didnt get good until they got into drugs.
Other bands music worsened without drug usage.
Aerosmith is a prime example.

Some bands were good, and didnt need em.
Some did.

Well, it depends on the kind of drug you're doing at the time. If you have any questions, just ask me...

On the whole I'd say yes - although decent stuff sounds good anyway.

Some stuff sounds amazing in a certain frame of mind but in a sober light sounds perfectly ordinary or worse.

In my own personal opinion, music always sounds better when you're stoned.

I heard a statement once along the lines of..."The Grateful Dead: The best band never to practice."

Hard to practice properly when you're constantly fucked up! :p

I have a LOT of friends who love the 'Dead.

They also tend to like "Jam" bands, like Widespread Panic, Government Mule, Phish, etc.

Theres a handful of tunes by these bands that I like, but for the most part, i hate em.

Everytime I wanted to check out some of these bands stuff in the past, a friend would make me listen to some live show, "Red Rocks, March 84" or something.

Jerry Garcia would usually be so strung out on heroin he would ride one note for three minutes in a "trippy" guitar solo.
The guitar tones, instead of warm and vibrant, would be wailing, and peircing, and shrill.
No where near as they sounded on the album.

"Trippy" turns into fucking annoying after a minute or so.

If you really want to be a mascara-wearing, funked-out giant bird of legend, weed isnt enough. Try LSD, mescalin, shrooms for hallucinations of this magnitude. :P

Bad music is always bad...but it's slightly less bad when your stoned.

I enjoy music much more now that I am not "under the influence", but when I was in a band I did a lot of drugs. I don't think it had anything to do directly with my music, but it helped me put up with my idiot bandmates, and also kept me from getting annoyed with my mom "Rock Star is NOT A CAREER CHOICE"
I can't tell you how many times I heard that one.

The first time I did E, I listened to Kashmir by Zep, and I swear to God, I WAS Kashmir (whatever that means...).

Certain music is amplified under the influence of narcotics, no doubt.

I wouldn't know, I've never been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. I suppose that's why I don't especially care for Pink Floyd.

Absolutely!

Music does sound a lot better under the influence. Or in some cases at least bearable.

I remember being at a beach party where the music was so intolerably loud that I had to get serverly drunk to stand it.

What about classical? That doesn't improve with drug use, does it?

A few drinks will help you ease yourself into it, I would say.

Anyway, good music is still going to sound like good music whether you're straight or wasted. Some music though is just inextricably tied in with certain kinds of drug use - take crust for example - it just isn't the same if you're not sitting in a damp flat smashed out of your head on white cider.

Definitely can be, a few shots of Johnnie Walker and some lines of Ketamine made Mozart sound like something out of this world...

Strong skunk can make it seem like the music surrounds you, gets into all of your being :D
and then of course there's the hallucinogens...bit of mushrooms or 2c-i and some really trippy downtempo psychedelica like Shpongle...blissss
